Why do you guys think Bitcoin is declining in popularity? Looks like Ethereum will pass it. What can Bitcoin do to maintain number 1?

And why do you think bitcoin is being surpassed be Eth, could you please elaborate in more detail? In twenty four hours ethereum trading volumes passed bitcoin trading according to data from CoinMarketCap on tuesday. But I don't think that is sufficient "proof" that bitcoin is less popular all of a sudden. If Eth sustains higher trading volumes over a longer period, then maybe we can say Eth is provably more popular than bitcoin.  It is nowhere near it for now.

Really? How did this happen can you give us your source of this?
Because as far as I know bitcoin is really on top all over the crypto currencies despite the fact of high fees and delay of transactions, since bitcoin is still counting for its investors, I mean it still gaining supporters and continue despite of it. The value of bitcoin is still increasing so I guess ETH is not surpassing BTC yet.

the highest volume is on zero fee exchanges. that always sends volume through the roof.

eth has an identifiable leader who hustles hard. that makes people feel comfortable. it has marketing and corporate backing. it has lots of projects on the go. it has impressive long words.

if you were a total noob would you look at bitcoin with all its problems, divisions and stagnation or shiny ethereum?

ethereum's problems will eventually bite it hard. right now it's in the mood to shine.

Honestly, I think Bitcoin losing its number 1 status is a good thing. Shaking things up will force Bitcoin users to 'get real' and start adapting instead of relying on brand recognition.

ETH is what bitcoin was ment to be with programmable contracts and all that stuff, not just money. Blockchain can be used for various type of things. Bitcoin will still be the most recognize in the crypto world or when someone is entering in it - or at least for now.

Also having in mind that people are trying to do a hard fork UASF as it may even cause chain to split, the time is not okay for bitcoin right now as we have scaling debate... Hopefully this will get fixed and we will see that bitcoin starts to dominate not to lose its volume and trading % per day.

Another thing is that people are greedy and want money so they are looking to see the new bitcoin to earn and make a profit. Ethereum, is good in investors eyes, because they have a lot of supporters around, specially when people hear that even Microsoft is working together with them also some other companies. It is not just Ethetreum look at XMR aka monero for instance they are also taking some good place because of the privacy that the coin itself provides. WHich means people can't just do a search on the blockchain explorer to be able to see your balance - like with bitcoin.

Bitcoin is laking on some features, although if they are implemented bitcoin still have a good place above all other alts. But btc can also lose the battle easily.

I think bitcoin still has the most current popularity. Bitcoin is still much better than etherum. But indeed the development of altcoin is currently very rapid. I think this will be a healthy competition to improve the digital currency in the world today.

Bitcoin has to hurry up and change the blocksize so that fees decrease and there is more confidence in transaction times. If that can't be achieved then there is nothing Bitcoin can do than hope that the community stays loyal and keeps pumping money into itself. Otherwise people will leave and they will just encourage cryptos like Ethereum to grow, and it will potentially be replaced.

There is a possibility that we could see more investments from China in ETH in coming months and since it was controlling the price of bitcoin for a longer time now it is time for them to focus their energy on ETH and start manipulating it to the core,i think there are many projects eyeing to be developed and it will all be under ETH and it will boost the rate of ETH,but i do not think that it will over take bitcoin when it comes to price.

i think it might happen this week.

but china won't be allowed to play their previous games. it'll be a regular market with fees. i'm sure there'll be huge demand and huge dumps though.

Yes, BTC has been declining for months, and that shouldn't surprise anyone. As long as the scaling issue isn't solved, it will keep on going downwards. But BTC is still way ahead of all the other cryptos. It's the only one you can actually use to buy goods or services.

i think bitcoin is going to maintain its position as number one, i do not think that the popularity of bitcoin is decreasing,  to me i think the popularity of bitcoin is increasing from day to day and that is the reason that people are entering in the world which is causing the increase of the price of bitcoin. in fact people are now putting trust on bitcoin and therefore they are investing their assets for trading.

Many people prefer to use altcoin like etherum and litetcoin for small transaction instead of using bitcoin due to the higher fee and low confirmation of the bitcoin. On the other hand bitcoin is not fully anonymous and there is monero which is untraceable and anonymous. I might confess that there are many competitors out there but untill now no one can beat bitcoin i think because of it's decentralized nature and originality, that's the reason why bitcoin still exist.

Bitcoin is store of vlaue, money, so much more than any other crypto. But its good that some think otherwise, more BTC for true believers.

Because the more countries tried to consider the blockchain expands through use the ethereum platform. Especially the recent news comes from chinese give a lot of impact for the price of ethereum. More people FOMO ethereum. And my guess the bitcoin popularity will be less. The another crypto gain more popularity and that makes the bitcoin users try to take a look on the ethereum platform maybe. Bitcoin needs a lot of improvements and not a lot of the greedy politicians.

There is not a single chance of happening this. If you concluding this from current scenario of bitcoin them forget about your statement. It is just pump and dump that always keep happening with bitcoin because of more holdings and sometimes selling of it. It is not like that bitcoin is declining as crypto currency it just another part of bitcoin process or how it works.

It is true that ethereum seems to be taking on more relevance every day in the altcoin market, but we must not forget that this is just the beginning and this market still manages a very small proportion of the global economy.

As this market matures over the years, there will be a larger market for many of the current altcoins, as well as all the new ones that will gradually emerge, but just as with fiat money, people acquire more dollars not because of their intrinsic value, but because of their symbolic value, and this same will occur with the bitcoin in the long run.

And it is this mentality that is the problem. ETH use case is not defined bu VB, ETH can be use as store of value an away to co-ordinate real life actions, business etc. ETH does not (yet) face the intractable problems BTC has in dev.

This last fact is inmho, suicide in tech. Dev stalled.

I am sure there are some miners that are now thinking long and hard about position as well as some of the core. Mainly the ones that did not diversify out into eth.

It could be part of the scaling issues was in-part caused with someone with a large stake in eth....

Who said anything about tracing transactions and staying anonymous? I think you blew too much to day sweetie.  ;)

This is a cheesy matter, anyone could launch a new coin and have a %90 pre-mine and starts mining the %10 remaining.

Then all it takes for it to even surpass Bitcoin is to put a fake price at a major exchanging service and you got your

$200 billion dollar coin with that much of a market share, while other coins such as ETH and Ripple are being manipulated

By traders and there is no actual use for them not like Bitcoin, they are just pumping and dumping, can't you guys see?

no its not like that. It's more of a zietgiest change.

once you have more nodes, more volume, higher cap, more dev, tokens being issued, its passes a point where the disbelief that anything could take the place of BTC may set in.

Sort of like how a baby soon forgoes the need to crawl once it can walk and then run, hesitant, disbelieving itself at first, stumbling maybe, but then all so quickly.....

This part is true thought I wouldn't say this is the reason for Bitcoin losing it's dominance - as I also don't beleive Bitcoin is losing it's dominance as I would only think at this point that a certain number of Altcoins + Bitcoin are all being pumped in a way to make some good money for a select few individuals.

People may come out and say well look at ETH, or XMR, or XRP and so on and so forth but these have had no real usage in the least when it comes to BEING REAL CURRENCIES - Bitcoin is the only one that has broken this barrier. The other ones are simply being used by traders to make some money.

So, Bitcoin isn't losing it's top spot in the least.

Why do you guys think Bitcoin is declining in popularity? Looks like Ethereum will pass it. What can Bitcoin do to maintain number 1?

Bitcoin is the pioneer of internet decentralized coin payment and no doubt, blockchain technology behind it is now develop by various parties into a variety of function in various fields like banking, accounting, healthy, government, etc. But the biggest problem in bitcoin is time frame of confirmation transactions that can be delay in days because of 2mb blocksize can't provide thousands of transactions everyday. And of course the fees.

People is now looking for something like bitcoin that more fast, lower fees, simple and easy. And Ethereum with his smart contract is the answer.

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and it's name is known by quite a big chunk of the population. Ethereum is almost unknown outside of the crypto scene. Also, Ethereum has no limit supply, so it's supply will grow by 10 millions ETH every years, causing a devalue of the currency over time.

Bitcoin will stay on top for a long time IMO.

Leakage due to slow transaction time, more contracts on Ethereum which each have intrinsic values and it's a tempting side currency.
That said bitcoin wont die anytime soon even with the issues, it's strong and stable and people know BTC first before any altcoins including ETH.

If this is the case, then it is time for the developers, along with the miners, to get their acts together and make bitcoin work the way it should. Ethereum has been really making big strides lately and looks serious on its intention to be among the top crypto currencies available.

As the bitcoin value grows it prices out the "general public" in the past 14 days dew to the value hike in bitcoin I have seen a lot of people I know becoming very interested in bitcoin the only issue being the price now its far too high for the average joe to be buying the first coin.  With that in mind people are seeing ETH as the alternative to bitcoin thinking get in now before it becomes the next bitcoin in value, Hence the sudden uptake in ETH also..

In regards to the fee structure in bitcoin it is becoming a issue also. No one want's to wait hours for a payment to confirm or have to spend X amount on higher fees which has caused issues for many websites accepting and making payment in BTC,

I hope the bitcoin price dose not continue to raise up much further or we do risk stopping wide scale adaption down to the fact a single coin is costing so much!

Ethereum has great potential after seeing the development roadmap. EEA joining announcements are surely pumping up the prices. There has been a co-relation between BTC prices and ETH prices. It features unstoppable programs that are tamper-proof: "Smart Contracts".
But I continue to trust in Bitcoin I believe that Bitcoin can maintain its 1 in crypto currency world hope the fee will decrease.

ETH is a piece of garbage that got caught up in the bitcoin wind, that's all.  Who says we need to keep bitcoin "#1"?  It fucking well IS number one, and you don't have to look at market caps to know that.  In any case, we'll see in 10 years whether I'm right or not.  Someone promise to resurrect this thread in 2027, eh?

Main factor is price. Same as for pink sheets people buy them because they cannot afford IBM's, Apple's, Kodak, etc or they are hoping to "get rich quick". The higher the BTC price goes the more people get pushed out while the bigger investor replaces them.

No doubt that Bitcoin is still the king in this race but you can think yourself that ETH is in the starting and growing like the Bitcoin and hopefully it is going good according to the interest of the bitcoiners .
So here it is looking that eth is more fast to grow than Bitcoin , so here I would like to suggest everyone that don't compare the Bitcoin and eth with each other because Bitcoin is king at his own place and ETH is king at his own place , don't try to judge .
If you will talk about the technology power then I will say that ETH is more better than Bitcoin .

I am sure that ETH will rise in value because it is becoming like a trusted and usable cryptocurrency platform and I invest a little of its growth BUT I don't think it will soon surpass that of Bitcoin. Well, only time can tell if that can really happen.

For now, it is Bitcoin that is the raging King of Crypto and if soon the scaling debate can be solved for good then its value can be back to the right track and be astronomical again.

Again, only time can tell if one day Bitcoin can fall from its number one position because the number is still way behind though honestly it has that potential in itself worth exploring.

In my opinion, why bitcoin declining as top cryto currency due to unexpected increasing of other cryptocurrencies of altcoins in the market. It means if the bitcoin raising up altcoins price were going down or sometimes breakeven. However, vise versa if the crytocurrencies or altcoins price were striking raising up the price of bitcoin were going down.

From where i see it bitcoin is doing great it has good market price which is $2477 as of now. Explain it to me how would a buggy and centralized altcoin could surpass bitcoin.
Bitcoin has been adopted in many countries and has been legalize in japan
Bitcoin has the most number  of merchants and services using it as a payment processor.
Bitcoin is one of the widely used as a payment processor in the world wide web
Bitcoin is also in local businesses as a payment method.

Look at the different aspects of bitcoin then you'll understand that bitcoin will always be number 1.

I never believe that bitcoin is declining in its popularity. People understand it in the wrong manner, just because of the ethereum gaining a value increase one cannot say that bitcoin has got its popularity declined. We can say that ethereum is growing potentially and giving hard competence. Look at the ongoing scenario more than ethereum, bitcoin seems to surpass values.

Bitcoin is also in local businesses as a payment method.

What do You call "local business"?

Other altcoins may have greater benefits than bitcoin. Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, and it's not flawless. I think the main reason today is due to the large fees. Maybe because how you can trace any transaction as well. Bitcoin is actually getting old, believe it or not. The blockchain is getting stupidly big too.

Well like private local grocery stores, I'm using "local businesses" in that sense.

How come? Price has gone up to 2300$, Japan and Australia accepting bitcoin, every day more and more businesses are accepting bitcoin as a payment. Ethereum MAY surpass bitcoin in some specific sections but all together? No way.

Correct bitcoin has two main advantages over any other altcoin, is the first coin of its type and the popularity, bitcoin is not perfect it has its own shares of problems but the issue is that those problems are not getting resolved, while in other coins those problems are getting solved and are able to move forward, bitcoin at the moment seems to be paralyzed due to political and internal conflicts.

And why do you think bitcoin is being surpassed be Eth, could you please elaborate in more detail?

the highest volume is on zero fee exchanges. that always sends volume through the roof.

eth has an identifiable leader who hustles hard. that makes people feel comfortable. it has marketing and corporate backing. it has lots of projects on the go. it has impressive long words.

if you were a total noob would you look at bitcoin with all its problems, divisions and stagnation or shiny ethereum?

ethereum's problems will eventually bite it hard. right now it's in the mood to shine.

Ethereum really is in the mood to shine and Bitcoin had been there in its early stages and now that it has encountered some series of issues that is mainly because of the congestion in the blockchain but it is early to say that Eth would surpass Bitcoin. Better wait with the SegWit and the adaptation of Australia around the corner will surely boost its popularity and again Bitcoin would shine and a lot brighter than it was.

Eth is on its early stages that's why it can't relate itself with problem that Bitcoin is facing which is because of the increase in demand but surely Bitcoin will resolve all of this and continue to improve itself because it has a lot of rooms to improve on!

Bitcoin is not declining as the top crypto. The issue is that there is more ETH and when the prices goes up by a few percent it makes a larger jump than BTC does.

If XRP(Ripple) goes up by a lot right now it could easily be worth more. It is mainly due to speculation on most coins. XRP/ETH/BTC though are more real world use value. More countries getting into it and making it legal, more banks getting into it. ETC.

Also, it doesn't exactly matter if BTC goes down in price overall, it still functions. You should be using BTC for the function and now to gain money.

Why do you even think ethereum is passing Bitcoin? Just because some alternatives are pumping and Bitcoin is having a hard time, doesn't mean that any alternative will surpass Bitcoin. The altcoins will dump and Bitcoin will get things settled. Bitcoin will always be #1 no matter how much do other coins pump.

Its a completely natural series of events, with more and more altcoins coming to market bitcoins market share will decrease more and more. Plus with the high transaction fee's on bitcoin and occasionally slow transaction times newer, faster and more effective coins are beginning to take its place. However segwit could well change of this.

Ethereum should not be compared to Bitcoin, it offers its clients a completely different service of being able to create smart contracts in a decentralised manor.

IMO Bitcoin is loosing ground due to uncertainty and it is basic monetary policy.
I will continue to consider Bitcoin as a bad currency to hold value until the UASF clarifies what the future will look like, that makes it until mid August at least.
In fact in the models where I calculate profitability I am using a botom price of 1500Ä at this moment because I do not see any reason why anyone with no hype would invest in an asset with unclear future from now until after mid August. I do not have to assume anything about UASF. I will make a decission when I can make a proper informed one.

Who would invest in a currency of a country at war?

There are several factors related to the popularity of Bitcoin:
1. Small volume of Bitcoin spread over the network
2. Situations where more Bitcoin traders than Bitcoin users
3. News spread globally
4. Investment Fraud (scam)
5. Bitcoin is 'hacked' and taken away by other parties

There are some advantages given bitcoin than any other cryptocurrency
Bitcoin is superior compared to other online currencies
Easy transfer
Minimum cost,
No controls,
Virtual currency using Cryptocurrency technology
Facilitate payment,

Ethereum is another cryptocurrency related project that has attracted a lot of hype because of its additional features and applications.
But the popularity of ethereum will not last long, when viewed in terms of users,
Bitcoin will be superior at the usage level

Nonsense!

Bitcoin is #1 attempt to implement a decentralized payment system. It has enjoyed enough being the first attempt and a successful one at the same time (a very rare condition) but naturally its success is relative and it is not the end of a technology. Altcoins, understanding the situation, has come around prepared for the competition with features like scalability, anonymity, speed, smart contracts, ...

From a long term point of view, obviously, being #1 attempt is not a strong enough leverage to remain on top, improvements should be made but btc can not and will not handle improvements, it will fall sooner or later.

Bitcoin won't disappear, it won't even lose value, it will become somewhat obsolete by performing less transactions (actually it has already lost the transaction volume battle) becoming a simple digital asset, and nothing more.

A replacement for fiat currencies and daily payment practices. Ethereum? Zcash? ... they have chances, btc? Noway!

If you are looking at the coin market cap, that is an illusion.  Site is being used to confuse people about market dominance.  I do not think Bitcoin is declining and infact they are being welcomed by some countries and some of them are Japan and Australia.

What's wrong with the stats given by them? I have analyzed their charts, and found them to be accurate up to 99.999%. Bitcoin has already lost the trade volume battle, in addition to the market cap battle. ETH trade volume for the last 24 hours was around $2.1 billion, while that for Bitcoin was less than $2 billion.

With the range of people covered, I think Ethereum is gaining grounds but bitcoin is rather in an advance stage, taking a look at it, Ethereum is still in its infancy stage, not much of the world regarding to the ratio of Bitcoin population and usage.  And please take note that a huge amount of ETH with huge funds coming from the ICO is in the hand of its developer so they can do a daily trade with huge volume.  I agree ETH is shining but it is still far from taking over the seat enjoyed by bitcoin.  Coinmarket Cap? let us give them to the coins with a huge number of supply.  ;D.

Ethereum's recent hype is just a bubble. It was not made for being used as money, but for ICOs and smartcontracts, has unlimited supply as it's totally centralized by their devs. May be working on the short term, but Bitcoin will always prevail.

This is entirely a new platform for the investors all around the world. The difference in price happened due to the big values making the markets to make change based on the situation. Right now the market movement is from the large scale investors who has the potential to fluctuate the price increase and decrease.

Now the bitcoin is a bit aging, some other crypto's have much lower fees, a more secure, more anonymous, faster system.
Personally I see the Ethereum pass first and stay a few years because it solves a lot of problems while offering an improved system.

ETH still have some bugs. ETH is not more anonymous than bitcoin, yes they have lower fees and faster blocks I agree to that. ETH is a bit centralized so bitcoin wins if we talk about decentralization about the whole network. On the other hand there are pretty cool stuff that can be done on ETH network like ICOs and smartcontracts.

I agree with you new coins come and they offer something a bit advanced but this should raise a competition spirit between bitcoin devs and other alts devs. If they want to stay on the top. Alts are good thing in that sense as everyone is trying to build something new and everybody else can copy that code and to implement some features into their own coin.

The reason many are thinking this is because the market cap of Ethereum has gone very high in the last months and that is why some think that it may end up surpassing bitcoin in that metric, I think it will be difficult for ETH to achieve this alone, a decrease in the price of bitcoin is needed as well.

The main reason is the large transaction fees and high confirmation times. Another reason is the hard fork that occurs on August 1. This is a deterrent to the members in the Bitcoin community. This is why people are moving to different cryptocurrencies. Thus Bitcoin loses its mark as the top cryptocurrency.

BTC is pseudo anonymous, there are other coins as solution for not be traceable.
But pseudo-anonymous also has its benefits. Since the transactions are traceable crime is harder to commit. This means that Bitcoin is more secure in terms of crime prevention.

I think it's not yet happening. Bitcoin is apparently still on top and remains to be the leader of the flock.

Bitcoin is synonymous to cryptocurrency being the first of this kind of technology. It would be a little hard to replace bitcoin.

While etherium is clearly climbing the ladder, the throne is still occupied by bitcoin.

The good thing about the relatively new cryptocurrencies is that they have already added features that bitcoin lacks. They tend to develop more on the aspects where bitcoin seems to be weak.

Utility and fundamentals is really low. People don't just believe that bitcoin can still be the one seeing that development cannot continue due to different ideologies and interests. Also, there aren't much shops to use bitcoin with, meaning economy is being stagnant. The only good thing about bitcoin right now is its bullish nature for trading. I agree, or most probably those people who think the decreasing of value of bitcoin is declining are those who haven't seen the ups and downs of bitcoin a few years back. And yes if by popularity I think bitcoin is still most popular than those of other alternate coins now that have skyrocketed its value.

I do think that ETH will grow but for ETH to grow so well, but for it to grow, so it beats bitcoin seems very unlikely especially with bitcoin being so popular. There are faults in bitcoin, no doubt, with the long confirmation times and transaction fees. Even though bitcoin is relatively old compared to new cryptocurrencies it has a lot of media attention, especially with recent news related to Japan. Bitcoin has most of our trust and it would take another cryptocurrency with even more trust and a better reputation to take over bitcoin, or who would ever buy or use that cryptocurrency? No one would trust it, since it would be too new

Even if we say that eth is popular. It still needs the support of the root currency which btc. Umlike btc who doesn't actually needs eth to stay alive now that is the difference
yep eth still needs btc if you want to convert it to fiat and other altcoins still need btc for trading than major altcoin like eth. indeed bitcoin has an expensive cost compared to altcoin event though the bitcoin is still number 1 in coinmarketcap.

Why do you guys think Bitcoin is declining in popularity? Looks like Ethereum will pass it. What can Bitcoin do to maintain number 1?
I don't think that the popularity of the Bitcoin is going down because many people ( almost every) enter in the cryptocurrency because of the reason of the Bitcoin , because they only listen Bitcoin and they want earn Bitcoin , since transaction fee and price making the people hard to make buy ( costly due to fee ) small fraction of the Bitcoin . So I think every new users always face disappointment only of the reason of the high fee  .But still I don't think that in the world the discussion about the Bitcoin is going down .
And also you can see that most of the countries for the legalisation of virtual currency are making rules for the Bitcoin only because it is still the kind .
But here who are the old bitcoiners are making profit more in other altcoins than in Bitcoin , so the craz of the Bitcoin for the old bitcoiners is going small down .
But still at the end we can't do our trading ( whether altcoin or direct Bitcoin trading ) easily .

Segwit2x is a compromise, but with 80% of miners signaling Segwit2x, in the last 24 hours the price of ETH and all other major alts have dropped. With the scaling solution near at hand, what do you think would happen to ETH when Segwit gets activated? I guess some sensible users have already started moving their funds from alts to bitcoin.

ETH goes high right now and I guess it's because of the fact that so many ICOs use it for funding these days. But I don't think bitcoin is declining, it's just turbulence.

If you are talking about the popularity declining due to the decreasing price of bitcoin then you have a misconception. Bitcoin is still the most popular cryptocurrency of all, the ups and downs of BTC price is not a new thing here. I am sure that the price will soon going to increase rapidly as the demand will shoot up high.

No, he is talking about bitcoin declining as #1 in the cryptocurrency chart that includes all altcoins as well as bitcoin, so Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.

The reason is basically a lot of hype over altcoins, for example Ethereum and Antshares(dubbed the Chinese ethereum i think for some reason although the ICO actually didn't go all that successfully. Other coins like Lisk have tripled in price, digibyte has also absolutely exploded in price but now is adjusting and price is in freefall at the moment.

It's not bitcoin becoming less popular at all. It's still the first cryptocurrency, no matter what. And this will have a huge impact on people that are trying to get into crypto. They'll alway look at bitcoin before they look at anything else. When this altcoin hype and ICO hype in general dies off, bitcoin dominance will probably go back up to at least 60%.

Because the user crypto a growing number and special options, for example the user crypto likes gambling he can select that feature complete for gambling, or users who like speed then can select the ethereum, it looks like this will continue.

It's not. You just think that it is. The fact that it has a few problems that have to be solved and are hopefully going to be solved soon.

If you want to compare cryptocurrencies as bitcoins and ether and say that btc is declining, let's compare their usage.
BTC is way way more popular in shops and stores. In how many shops can you use other cryptos ?

Altcoins do and will always exist side by side with bitcoins but it would never be replaced (my very own opinion)

it doesn't look like that at all! I don't understand where all this FUD is coming from?
In regards to usage, the vast majority and still using bitcoins, some even exclusively, the price of bitcoin has had many jumps as big as or more than Ethereum, also the media coverage is more than 90% focused on bitcoin and ETH just shares the rest with Doge, LTC and the rest...

Right now it's not happening Bitcoin price is kicking and price keeps increasing and while this things is happening ethereum is having a congestion in their network and I just saw on Yobit a big 9% drop of it's price,so it's still bitcoin for me .

Then he needs to phrase his question properly. As it stands, none of the crypto in the top 5 according to the "cryptocurrency chart" are in decline. Developments are underway for all, adoption is growing, trade volume and tx #s are up across the board. We're watching almost all proper cryptos do anything but decline.

The point here i think by the OP is just about the ranking. Bitcoin is just declining in ranking because of the hypes of the recent coins like ethereum which it has a great rally on its price because of the ICOs and a lot more that helps the price rally to be stronger and make the price pump so fast.

Really now? I am pretty sure bitcoin is most popular right now and it doesnít look like bitcoin is declining in popularity right now. What do you mean by ETH passing bitcoin?

ETH is in breaking news because of it's price raised 300% during one month, bitcoin's result are much more modest, that's why so many ago I around it.
I think ETH will continue to grow for some more weeks, but the pop is coming.

Bitcoin is not declining as the top currency, it still has maintained itself as the top currency in the crypto universe and the most recognized and gaining the most complete adoption and recognition IMO, Even the rise in ethereum is just a temporary thing.

I think with respect to the news, the acceptance in stores and so on, bitcoin is still the leading crypto. It is now more a question for the future if we manage to achieve lower transaction fees and faster transaction confirmation processes. Bitcoin definitely has proven to offer the required security and reliability level to be the crypto of the future.

Its currently  declining and goes down slowly by this stage because huge amount of users are switching to altcoins now because of the issue of slow and big transactions fees which is the cause of declining in popularity

Agree, why many people stated that ethereum could surpass bitcoin as number 1 cryptocurrency due to small increases of eth, I mean bitcoin price at $2600 and ethereum still below $400, how could it compete with bitcoin prices? When segwit activated, then bitcoin price will skyrocket again, even before segwit be activated, people will trigger to invest on bitcoin. I just consider ethereum as an alternative, so it's called altcoins, used for trading purpose.

Bitcoin will still be miles ahead of Ether. The little pull back noticed is as a result of some countries auctioning their Bitcoin stake(South Korea). Bitcoin will surely continue its upwards movement as more and more countries are working towards total acceptance as means of exchange.
