Title: Bitcoin Space Program
Post by: uMMcQxCWELNzkt on May 03, 2013, 07:23:47 PM
Official Bitcoin Space Program

I would like to start up a space program fully funded in Bitcoins. The idea is to have a space shuttle built for a 4 man crew, once the initial milestone of space orbit is reached we can expand exploring the Moon and Mars. I realize this project will cost a fair amount but I am willing to put 10BTC into the project. I would also like to be part of the 4 man crew leaving 3 additional seats. The highest bidders will earn the other 3 seats.

In terms of money, like I said I will invest 10BTC and if you guys can add something to the funds then we have the first Bitcoin funded space program.

If you have any ideas for the future of the space program or you would like to make your offer then feel free to do so below.

Note to American members: Guns will not be permitted into the shuttle.

By the way that is not the actual shuttle, just a representation of what it could look like.

You do realize Bitcoin network is not compatible with space travel due to lag, right? You'd never be able to propagate blocks fast enough, and there would be local forks budding everywhere.

You should join forces with kiba! He is the original Bitcoin space cadet (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2724.msg37000#msg37000)!  :D

Damn someone beat me to it  >:(! Has he/she built a shuttle yet? If not then I still think this project has more potential, as you can see this project has an impressive visualization of the shuttle!

This should be enough.

Maybe for a small shuttle but we need a high tech shuttle with lots of features like one of those arm things.

Can I bid to have one of the others seats be reserved for my wife?

How many seats will she fill? If she requires 2 then you will have to bid for both seats.

LOL
You couldn't even make it into the stratosphere if you had all the 11 million BTC on your hand

You never know until you try it, what if we attach the shuttle to a hot air balloon which carries the shuttle most of the way. I think 10BTC is actually a bit overkill to be honest, but like I said we need on of those robotic arms and maybe some lasers too.

How would we know this is actually going to be done?
It sounds like a quick rich scheme and then saying it "wouldn't of worked out".

Do you have any personal qualifications in building the shuttle? any programming knowledge?

This is a massive project and would take a professional, now with only 10 BTC at the current rating would not be enough.

Looks real to me. Is it ready for launch yet? Did the 10 BTC cover the whole cost of the shuttle or do you need the 30 BTC for the rest and donations for the arm and lasers?

I have loads of qualifications including GCSE's (highly prized in the UK)! This is not a "quick rich" scheme because once a team is in space we can mine asteriods and send the minerals back to Earth where they will be processed and sent back to funders of the program as BTC.

I am really sorry, I realize the image is very deceiving but we do not yet have the shuttle. 30BTC would be great, that might even take us out of the galaxy, however around 20BTC would be sufficient for our first space flight. I contacted Nasa about this project and they said I should only accept Escrow transactions because people keeping scamming them.

I'd suggest contacting Roger Ver. He'll surely have some lasers he can send over. Also he has a lot of experience with things that go *boom*.

My suggestion is to send ASICs into the space instead of humans. Assuming that our future world becomes more unstable with unreliable internet and electricity we need to send hundreds of ASICS into the space where they can form a global reliable bitcoin network that is wireless, and all clients connect to this network directly or indirectly through gateways.

Why don't you guys practice shooting up satellites and unmanned probes into space first? Then move onto bigger projects when you have the funding, they'd be a lot cheaper to make and you wouldn't have to worry about deaths on your hands.

As silly as this topic is, if Bitcoin gained worldwide market acceptance over the next decade or so this would actually work. You would have to have have it valued at $100,000-$1,000,000 a coin which again is possible is it gains worldwide use. Not to mention people like SpaceX are making spaceflight way cheaper, so you might only need a few million for a private company to do it, whereas before you would need billions normally.

If BitCoin becomes really big we will need BitCoin satellites around the world to secure the network.
The technology of sending up satellites are getting cheaper and easier over time so I think this project is possible within a few years.

Looks like some people are working on projects like this already :)

Hackers plan space satellites to combat censorship

Computer hackers plan to take the internet beyond the reach of censors by putting their own communication satellites into orbit.
The scheme was outlined at the Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin.
The project's organisers said the Hackerspace Global Grid will also involve developing a grid of ground stations to track and communicate with the satellites.
Longer term they hope to help put an amateur astronaut on the moon.
