Title: ASUS Strix GTX 1070 : PSU
Post by: antex34 on June 06, 2017, 07:34:41 PM
Hi guys,

I have a dilemma in deciding what PSU to get.
I plan to build a mining rig with 6 ASUS Strix GTX 1070 but I'm not sure what PSU to get.
Do the connectors matter ? How do I connect the GPUs to the PSU ?

Help is appreciated.

Also for the MOBO and CPU I plan to go for: GIGABYTE GA-Z270-Gaming K3 + Intel G4400. Any feedback ?

someone recommended me the gigabyte mobo they are using it on a mining rig.

Any specific reason you recommended this ? Also I can only find ASUS PRIME Z270-A, is it the same ?

EDIT: ok I've just found this article and looks like you're right: https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=news&id=155

One issue I have is that I can't find PSUs with more than 1000W.

Is this one "Seasonic PRIME, 80+ Titanium, 1000W" good enough for a system with 6 ASUS Strix GTX 1070 + risers ?
Pretty scared that I risk to burn it.

Does that 80+ Titanium matter or do we talk purely about the Watts ?

A single GTX 1070 at stock settings uses 150 watts, that's 900 watts just for your video cards. Once you add in motherboard, CPU, etc you will be over 1000 watts easily. You will need to get something in the 1200-1300 watt range to be safe. Or you can buy two smaller PSUs and use an add2psu adapter.... how much experience building and troubleshooting PCs do you have?  If this is your first time building a PC you might want to start small and simple first.

It's too late to start simple although I don't have much experience.

I'm still trying to learn how running 2 PSUs is done.
If not, I may have to run only 5 GPUs with the 1000W.

Any opinions on undervolting the cards ?

If I set the power limit to 90% they will use 135W * 6 = 810w
iNTEL g3900 CPU is 50W
mobo Asus PRIME Z270-A
+risers

Isn't this safe enough ?

Does running dual PSU come with other issues from your experience ?
Is the adapter all you really need for running it, as long as you keep the risers and gpus grouped per PSU ?
