What’s next for Bitcoin? :-\ ??? ??? ???

Some analysts call it a bubble of epic proportions, some say that it’s just the beginning of a revolution and BTC is headed towards $4000 until the end of the year or even $1 million in 5-10 years. What’s sure, is that volatility will increase once again in the cryptocurrency, and that will likely affect altcoins as well. Litecoin and Monero have been showing strength among the alternative coins during the rally today, while the main rival of BTC, Ethereum traded near it’s all time high.

Asian demand and adoption drove the recent leg of the rally, and while another steep correction is possible, there could be several waves of new investors and traders flooding the segment. The aggregate value of the cryptocurrency market just hit $100 billion, a far cry from being a meaningful number in today’s world, where central bank’s hold trillions of assets in the quest of keeping the global economy afloat, while only a small percentage of the investor community dared to touch Bitcoin et. al so far.

The blockchain technology behind Bitcoin is likely here to stay, but it’s hard to tell right now, which cryptocurrencies will emerge as the winners of the segment, Bitcoin is currently holding slightly less than 50% of the total value of the coins, while Ethereum accounts for half of that. For now, traders should keep their seatbelts fastened, as fireworks are almost assured in the coming days!

By 2020 I expect as well predict the price will be sitting closer to $5000 or above $5000. The reason is that by 2018 a good price increase is expected as more and more Countries have been coming into digital currency development. Along with this by 2020 a halving takes place so sure a next price increase is assured. So the price reaching $5000 has got increased chance.

If you ask from me then I will say that watching the current rally, $10k is also looking small for price of 1 bitcoin in year 2020.
And I hope the support and the bullish behaviour never ends and bitcoin will be the new money that the world will be using.

maybe my English sucks but i don't like calling these price drops as "decline". it was a massive sell off that was caused by panic and newbie non-believers and more importantly it was because these damn exchanges are too small. selling a couple of thousands causes a big drop!

the technology is here to stay there is no doubt about it. it is already being adopted by many sectors.

By 2020 the possibility of bitcoin going to a new time high is very much possible considering the various encouraging news happening both offline and online even with the Blockchain  technology getting accepted here and there. However, we should not oblivious of the fact that as opportunities abound so likewise challenges in bitcoin which rallies around acceptance, dominance, as well as competition in which quite a number of people will not be happy about. So, we should be cautious in making unnecessary projection into the future.

I think Bitcoin price in 2020 will be at least $5k .  One of the factor that Bitcoin would be at least that price, is the scheduled halving.  Aside from that possibly more country will adopt bitcoins and the scaling issue wont be an issue anymore.  There will be more bigger company involved in Bitcoin by that time since they got a sample from countries like Japan and Australia.

You cannot say for sure that the price of bitcoin would reach $5000 in 2020 and just focusing on only factors that would make that possible without considering the fact that there are several factors that could make that impossible to achieve starting from the intervention from government and the various transaction issues in the way of bitcoin as well as increasing transaction costs.

Sure,if bitcoin continues to rise in this speed,it would definitely cross $10,000 by 2020.Bitcoin has created a revolution in the world economics.It seems that it would still continue in the bullish trend.

What an analysis. If that would be the case and bitcoins continue this path then 2020 would be a good year for me to retire from all of these and just carry my bitcoins till I use it all up or I die before I do.

Though at $250,000 that means a single satoshi would be worth 0.0025 USD. Which mean it would be super expensive to send a single transaction. :P

The year 2020 is still too long in my opinion. Anything can happen in that year, with the current increase going I might say that bitcoin prices could reach 5000 $. With a more extreme increase may reach 6000 $ to 7000 $. Everything can happen to bitcoin.

If Bitcoin becomes a kind of digital gold, not for small transactions, but as storage of value, the price can reach as high as $ 10,000 or more.

It's already super expensive to send a transactions $1+ to send small transactions is a bit much. We have to figure out a better way. An off-chain provider like Xapo has the right idea but I don't think they are the ones to fix the problem.

Bitcoiners don't want to admit it, but it's primary use has been exactly that for years now. No one is out there buying hundreds of thousands of $$$ in bitcoin just so they can have unlimited number of coffee purchases in the future.

It wouldn't even matter if transaction fees came back down to $0. People still won't be buying coffees and croissants with bitcoin. Too much work, easier to use fiat debit cards, esp. when the fiat purchasing value is falling virtually every day. Why would I want to waste my bitcoin on a cup of coffee when I have fiat?

Again, the community can be ridiculously disingenuous to what is actually happening with Bitcoin now and in the future.

many people is want the price is increase until more than $5k but for up until that price, we need to waiting while we can make a profit for the price now. i think the price can increase so fast and we can see the price soon because for todays, there are many country that is interesting with bitcoin and they want to accepting bitcoin as the payment and we can waiting for this is really happen.

In less than 3 years I expect the price to be triple and around 10k, it might sound big but with the current trending of bitcoin price and the increase flow it can be reached in the upcoming years.

Besides bitcoin I think that other currencies will have increase too and a lot of new coins will be "invented" and change the world.

Where was the crypto world and the community before 10 years? Compare with now and you can see how fast is growing bitcoin and the crypto world itself. 

Among all this we will see the next bitcoin halving on the same year. Normally in the halving time price use to double in the chart and till continuous price pump hitting on the chart till the 2020. That time itself price will turned to 5000$. Later on that bitcoin value bump again and it will touch to 8000$ to 10000$ end of the 2020.

cryptocurrency is unique and the movement price is not just like traditional currency such as dollar because there is always a possibility to dropped or rise up at the same day with huge movement but regarding bitcoin if for next 3 years there will be more countries accept or admit bitcoin i think the price will hit between $5k-$10k or probably above

Well, in 5 years from this thread's OP, it will actually be the year 2022. Given the current rate and barring any yet unforseen negative news, negative technichal issues or other catastrophic events, my exhuberent amateur guess would be in the neightborhood of $10K. There will be the ineviteble corrections along the way, but in general, it seems to me that the upwards trend will continue.

As far as the bitcoin price in 2020, consider that the next halvening is estimated to occur sometime that summer. Also, the 2020 summer Olympics will be held in Japan and as we all know, bitcoin is now an accepted form of currency there. It can be expected bitcoin will be getting more publicity and coverage.

yes you are by the year 2020 bitcoin will be above 5k$ as looking at the increasing price of bitcoin in this year indicate that the price of bitcoin will be very high in the coming years and the acceptance of bitcoin by the some countries also stabilize the price of bitcoin, so in my opinion i think it will cross 7k or 8k $ in 2020.

I strongly believe that the level of growth that we have experienced is for the major part due to the global demand that has increased. Another part, which is something that will always ties itself to Bitcoin, is the speculation aspect that at this point accounts for 10-20% of current levels. I am a firm believer of Bitcoin, and will continue holding the majority of my coins, while alongside that I try to do some occasional trading to benefit from the fluctuations.

After block halving on 2020 we will see a large movement of the price and i think like other said $5,000 but i think more of that price that we can see after the block halving happen.. since the source of bitcoin or the block rewards was reduce the price will be change because of the demand and supply that can affect almost double the price of the present price or more..  this is just my own speculation..

We are already about to hit $3000 in 2017 and in next 3 years you are expecting only $2000 growth. It means those remaining 40% growth will take three and half years ? I do not think so. by 2020 bitcoin must be having value in 5 digits. Yes, I am expecting price to reach some unimaginable levels in coming years. Like Paypal directors speculate bitcoin may reach even one million dollar levels too by the year 2020.

If Bitcoin go on a steady pace, I would say at least $ 10,000. But things change fast in the crypto space, and significant changes in the ecosystem would lead me to make a price correction.

Big investors are buying and keeping BTC for long term. Every day many 1000 people from India and other places are buying small amount of BTC.
There will be only 21 mln btc available for the whole world ! If 10 mln people own 2 BTC each than no BTC left for the marked. So what do you think the price will be ? the price will be so high that if I tell you , you will laugh. Like wall street people laughed when I told them in 2011 that the price of BTC will be 70 USD soon. No one believed me. The price will be so much that you can not imagine now. if you have small children, buy 1 BTC for each than you will cover their Harvard expenses plus a house and still some mln Satooshi left. In future 1 Satoshi will be 1 USD. To own 1 BTC in future is luxury. No one call it Bitcoin but Satooshi. Yes you are right. 1 BTC will be 100 mln USD in 20 to 30 years time. We are in the beginning of BTC era.

I think by that time the price will double at least one more time so we will be looking at prices above 5000 and that are very close to 6000, it is impressive how fast things can chance in the world of cryptocurrencies, not long time ago the all time high of 1300 seemed to be impossible to reach and then it seems we are never going to see that price again.

4k, but only because we'll be in a bear market after whatever ATH 2017 still holds in store. Things will get really crazy in 2021 when the 2020 halving makes itself felt.

So do you believe it could be very similar to 2016 block halving? I mean the results? Remember that bitcoin was $500-600 around 2016 block halving. After that we moved to $1,000 very fast on january 2017. Then we could even come to $2,900 easily 5-6 months later on.

My assumption is that the market pressure of block halvings takes about 4-8 months to make itself felt. The block halving of late Nov 2012 started to really show in Mar 2013, the block halving of Jul 2016 started showing in Jan 2017, the block halving of 2020 will probably not show until 2021. It's definitely not the only factor, but it would make sense that the cyclical shift of supply / demand gives the market the final "push" whenever it's ready for a growth phase.

According to some experts Bitcoin will hit 6 figure price in 5 years. It is definitely hard to digest. But after looking at countries making bitcoin legal one after the other. It might be true. When government officially announces of making something legal. It makes people of that country trust that and make it more popular. Thus, the increase in demand. I see an exponential growth in demand in next 5 years. Indeed not easy to speculate. But we will definitely see an unexpected but a high price.

Expect the unexpected as I always say. Bitcoin offers a lot of worth the value. Even tho the price is decreasing nor increasing it just so happen but as a user I'm used to it in many times. Tho it's not in 5yrs or estimated years, bitcoin is well assured worthy. Just hold it and keep using it.

I never though before for the price reaching for this currrent rate and maybe we cannot expect on those one would be happen since maybe one day bitcoin would surprise us for the price would reach for 10k $ or evenmore, But let's expect less for that to come up and should not focus on this all the time since their are other coin who can give us more potential profits so better to watch various crypto's alive.

There's eight zeros in bitcoin. If one satoshi would be one dollar, one bitcoin will be 100 million dollars.

Maybe the price of bitcoin in the year of 2020 will be 10k dollars because as of now the price of bitcoin is 2500 plus and I believe the price before end of this year 2017 will be 5000 dollars so 10k dollars is very possible to happen . Many people for sure buy bitcoin in the next years so the price will increase. For sure many people want to see bitcoin price at 10k or more and for sure if that happen many people become instant millionaire.

it is still hard to give a certain opinion about bitcoin's future in the long term. even with the scaling debate coming to a conclusion and end.
we can see the growth, the adoption and the price rise that is the effect of these but what future holds is still unpredictable. it is safe to assume that the growth and adoption will continue this way and increase. as a result the price will also rise and then like a circle it will increase the adoption and so on.

Very true, it is tough for us to predict on what will be the price upon the year of 2020. I mean bitcoin's price is volatile so we don't know whether it is increase or decrease. Besides 2020 is too far from now so there's alot of might happen before we arrives on 2020.

If fees come down and cards like Tenx or Monaco pop off, then yes, people will very well be paying everything with Bitcoin. In fact, I will be making all of my next travel expenses via those cards since it's easier than loading up a prepaid fiat credit card in my country, where regular credit cards are never really used.

although it is too far from now, i think if people will use bitcoin more than now, i am sure that bitcoin will be worth in 5 years from now and we can make big profit because we can keep our bitcoin until that time. i really want to see the price is increase until more than $5000 and i will be glad if in that time, i can have more than more than 15 bitcoin in my wallet.

Don't forget to invest in a Trezor or something similar. There are so many people who have lost access to their coins due to a lack of foresight regarding security and storage. Those people are also contributing to an increase in price, since they lower the amount of Bitcoins in circulation. :P

By 2020,bitcoin price may cross $5000.The main reason for it would be most countries would have legalized bitcoins by that time and mass adoption of bitcoins would take place in the upcoming years.We might be able to buy products in most of online stores and offline stores as well by that time with bitcoins.Considerable volume of people would have changed from investing in gold to bitcoins by that time.

You're probably looking at about $8,000 in the year 2020. That is simply because of the steady rise of the price of Bitcoin and there's nothing that's ever going to stop that until we reach the end of the supply. At that point it's still not going to stop because the closer and closer you get to the end then you have a dwindling Supply which creates a rising demand.

So near the end the price is going to jump even higher, right after the end of the supply is going to jump even higher and probably have a good hard rise after that for at least a year at that point the novelty may have worn off and you might actually see some plateauing.

$500 increase is enough for me.
Maybe a 4k dollars will be a good number quesions from the UN or strong countries who wants to take it down.
A silent and slow increase will not be seen much.
I do want the moon but we have to be realistic and take the slower route to avoid being deleted in the face of the earth.

After sewit and bip91 preparations, I changed my mind and I started to expect over $15.000 for bitcoin price by 2020. The reason is we also have block decline in 2020.
