Title: GPU Repair Service/Help
Post by: BitcoinPappi on June 10, 2017, 10:05:35 PM
Hi Guys,

Having some trouble with some cards.

2X 280x Gigabyte Windfore
1X 280X Sapphire

They are not detected by the OS, the fans spin and everything but the cards are not detected by the OS. It is as if they are not even plugged into the board. Has this occurred to anyone on the forum and if so how did you go about fixing it?

Planning to try to bake them to see if that helps. If anyone offers GPU repair service let me know.

Are they detected by any kind of related software? Could it be that this is a driver related issue by any chance? Make sure you've checked those before "baking" them.

Fully checked.   They should have at least post when booting before going to the OS.  They don't post at all.  Even without drives they should have been detected using  `lspci ` but they do not show up in either Ubuntu 15.04 or 16.04.   They don't even post to allow you to enter the BIOS.

The same system runs 1X 390 2x 295 that I used to check these cards.

I have the same issues with the same GPUs.

Except the Gigabyte is 7970 instead of 280x, but its pretty much identical.

Both of them basically blew their VRMS.

The Gigabyte blows capacitors near the VRMS on both front and back.

Sapphire Dual-X 280x actually blew the VRMS under the heatsink.

Check this first. These were probably the crappiest 7970/280x GPUs ever made.

if you bake them, forget about using them, as problem will return + your caps will be dead, better find someone in your vicinity with bga rework station and have them reflowed properly - this may fix problem temporarily. I would definitely check vrm before attempting any temp heal.

Found it strange that all GPUs would just stop working randomly.  Thanks for letting me know. Will look into this.

:( tried the temp heal before seeing both replies above. Will look for someone close by that might be able to help.
