Title: ETH Dev's capping the Ether supply by procrastinating Metropolis release
Post by: adaseb on June 14, 2017, 08:45:34 AM
Apparently Metropolis was suppose to be released months ago. The ice-age difficult bomb was designed so it wouldn't be actually triggered because ETH would fork to the new Metropolis release by now.

The devs however are stalling the release to keep the supply lower for their benefit.

As you can see here

https://etherscan.io/chart/blocks

We no longer create 6000 Blocks (30000 Ether) per day instead we are creating around ~5000 Blocks ( 25000 Ether). This will keep linearly decreasing. And in August it will create 30 second block times which means ~3000 Blocks ( 15000 Ether) per day.

Right now I don't think anybody really cares since profits are still huge AND every 30 days the hashrate seems to double anyways.

The metropolis release is scheduled for Aug-Sept 2017.
