Guys sorry to ask a newb question, but is there a secure wallet that can hold majority of coins?

If not, can I ask the reason why? I would be happy to pay $5 a month for a decent wallet that could do this.

Also whats the deal with syncing wallets. I have heard this can take DAYS nevermind hours!

To be honest with all the annoyances with wallets sometimes i feel its easier to just keep coins on the exchanges even know there's a risk of being hacked

I use myetherwallet web site and it's very safe. You're holding your private key and nobody knows it. Never use jaxx for example. Never trust exchange wallets to store your coins in long term.

Exodus wallet is a good desktop wallet holding mostly few of the coins now and more to come. It is as secured as your PC anyway so you will need to be extra careful with your PC security but you have access to controlling your coins since you have access to the private keys. Also, I think you should know as a newbie that private keys are not to be toyed with as this can give anyone access to all your coins. So just use your wallet to do your transactions or keep your coins unless you are professional enough to know the essence of using the private keys.
Note that if you are looking for the safest wallet to keep lots of coin, then you should be thinking of paper wallets or hardware. You can generate multiple paper wallets for all the different coins, keep them somewhere safe and only share the public key. I am not sure if there is any hard wallet that has the capability of storing multiple coins at the same time but you can do your research as I only know of bitcoin hardware wallets.
Lastly, the mistake you will ever make is keeping all your coins in an exchange or on a Web wallet as they are not safe practice most especially if a chain split happens as a result of a hard fork, as you have no access to your private keys to be able to control your coins as you like.
Whichever way, like I said, do your research and find what works best for you.

I use Exodus, Coinomy then a dozen QT wallet. The Coinomy wallet holds the most coins I published a steemit blog post a while with the list (but I think they added a  few since then):

This and transaction fees are one reason why I try to restrict myself to the top few coins.
Even when I do take a position in specific alts, I try to square it off in a matter of days.
I am okay to take a risk of few days on exchanges.

I suggest myetherwallet easy to use and very safe because you only one know about the private key and no one can try to open your wallet because they did not know your private key except you. Because they have possible if you hold your voins in exchanges site possible to lose yoir coins because they have many issue before and also now many peolle lose their coins because they holding in exchanges site.

I'm already waiting impatiently for the trezor 2 hardware wallet. Should have more functions than the previous version. And in my eyes one of the best wallets

It's just like an ETF to store various coin in once basket. But I think you can try to download your various wallet. But coinomi looks good for you. And I think you must try to buy trezor as the best hardware wallet and you will be able to storing various kind of token or coin in there.

Except the keys aren't encrypted and anyone who gets access to your device can easily get your backup phrase.

Even when your Jaxx has a security PIN configured, anyone with 20 seconds of (network) access to your PC can extract your 12 word backup phrase and copy it down. Jaxx does not have to be running for this to happen.

With the 12 word backup phrase, they can later restore your wallet, including all of your private keys, on their own computers, and then proceed to transfer away all of your cryptocurrency.

No good reason to thrash Jaxx. It's the solution that OP is asking for (not myetherwallet as you suggest) and you're in complete control of your own keys too.

@OP: You need a lightweight wallet that only syncs your balance, and not downloads entire blockchains. Jaxx and Exodus are like good examples and store many alts as well.

Thanks guys, think I have narrowed it down to Jaxx, Exodus or Coinomi. Now just need to work out which is the quickest/easiest to use and has the best security :)

Exodus while not perfect by any means is fantastic for a light wallet. Once your funds build up get a hardware wallet like the ledger blue.  Jaxx was just ok much happier with exodus. Do not leave your funds on a exchange ever.

Not an endorsement of jaxx per se but if someone untrustworthy has network access to files on your PC then you're already pwned.

F*ck. I was just about to recommend Jaxx as I'm using it. And before read your links, this was the best wallet to hold multiple coins.

Does Exodus or Coinomi come with a known similar vulnerability? I also can't find a desktop revision of Coinomi?

You used to be able o use poswallet.com to hold tons of different POS tokens, but they are rebuilding everything up and will start adding coins again later on, so for now it's pretty stupid. I thought it was a cool idea to hold random shitcoins without having to download all the wallets in a single website, but they have delisted most coins. They say they will start adding coins back... hope it pumps again because im holding of these bags.

For ETH tokens, just get Parity. Don't bother with a full node, ETH is fucked and you can't properly download the entire blockchain, Parity is safe enough.
