Title: Poll: Would you buy a 300 Mh/s USB ASICMiner?
Post by: rezurect on May 08, 2013, 01:31:43 PM
Introduction

The Block Erupter USB series is the second major product of Bitfountain. Its experimental batch (Emerald) has passed all tests. Each one mines at more than 300MH/s, powered only by the USB port.

It serves as a replacement of GPUs for mining hobbyists. Your GPUs could be freed from calculating hashes and resume rendering for you. It is also a perfect gift for getting people knowing about Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining.

The Emerald Batch

This is our experimental batch, and consists only a few number of devices.

This is a picture showing the relative size to the laptop. One with heatsink and one without.

We also tested it on the USB-hub. Seven in a row run over a whole night and are all very stable.

Specification
Color: Green
Hashrate: >300MH/s
Mining Protocol: Icarus

This batch will be given away to miners, fans and hardware/software developers made the assignments to us long before. It has some issues working with cgminer, but the modular python miner works fine. We will fix this in the first mass production batch (Sapphire). It also exceeds a bit of the USB spec of max current (560mA vs <500mA), but in our experiment most devices (PC, laptop) could power it up.

The Sapphire Batch

This is the first batch under production in quantity. Its lead-time is conservatively 15-20 days.

Changes and Improvements
Color of PCB changed to blue
Adding a LED which blinks when a share is found
Fixing the cgminer compatibility problem
Reducing the heat generated and the current to <500mA

This batch will be for group-buy and retailers. The quantity of each order should be more than 300 devices. The price is fixed at 1.99 BTC. We will start the group-buy threads as fixed-price auctions in the auction subforum. When your order is fulfilled you could pay and ask for refund anytime before the tracking number is generated (trackable on internet). After shipping we do not refund, but still guarantee a six-month warranty of free replacement like our blades. However the replacement should also come in batch (10 at one time).

Interested purchasers could contact me even before the group-buy threads are created. :)

Friedcat has already shipped Block eruptor blades and this is not a pre order, product is ready to ship.

The idea is to club our group buy with some other countrys' group buy. So no need to reach the 300 threshold required for a buy.
This poll is just to gauge interest on the forum.

Expected final price :Cost Price 1.99 BTC + Shipping
(Approximately Rs 12,000+ @ 110$/BTC)
Note: Not capable of Scrypt mining
At current difficulty ROI : 133 days for break even, Profits after that.

I voted yes, but after thinking about it I would only consider it if the device is capable of Scrypt mining also.

I will not be the one handling ordering or shipping, preferably we will try to get mods to do it.

This is not scam, but really is it worth except the novelty value ?

One must consider the difficulty jump we are going to see after next Avalon batches, AsicMiner  :o, and BFL ( if ships  ;D)

If one good guy can come up with this USB expect some one to come with coffee machine ( Did I say BFL  ::) )

Mining is nowadays specialized operation and you will have to take it very seriously than a hobby or side income, else its not worth your time. Better to buy shares of existing credible mining operations.

Cheers

True, i did look into asic miner shares.

Minimum buy of 1 share = 1.310 BTC
The dividend system, how frequent are dividends paid. Return on Investment time?
Any more details on it.

We are mining at approximately 17 TH/s, so 42.5 MH/s per share.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=194524.msg2038701#msg2038701Last dividend was, I believe, 0.0075 per share, weekly.  However, 0.005 per share was reserved and reinvested by asicminer, which will provide future benefits for shareholders.  That was with a lower TH/s online as well.

I would buy one, but depending on the price...

We are mining at approximately 17 TH/s, so 42.5 MH/s per share.

ASIC miner PT shares
1.34 BTC /share
1.34 BTC/ 42.5 Mh/s.
Per week dividend (current): 0.00735415 (Last paid dividend)

For 300 Mh/s :7 shares ~ 9BTC
Per week dividend (current): 0.05147905 BTC

FOR USB miner
300 Mh/s 2 BTC +shipping ~ 2.2 BTC
Per week return : 0.105 BTC (http://allchains.info/calc.html)

I thought the ASIC miner shares were more profitable than the USB miner,
Can anybody spot flaws in the calculation?

I am not sure much about the mining calcs as I am not good at it, but few points I would like to raise.

1. AsicMiner shares was available at 1.2 BTC few days back.
2. AsicMiner is constantly adding hashing power there. They will scale better with network.
3. You need to run and operate USB miner, which will include your time, power costs etc.
4. You can easily buy ASICMiner shares and can sell easily too :), you can start today only if you want.

Cheers

One of the mods or owner of rbitco.in or bitcocean will retail it for single purchase.

My Question to you : Why do you want to purchase this ?

This is perfect for hobby miners and companies that can afford give aways.

I personally see no benefit from this, but would like to own one none the less :)
