Title: Whats going to happen to bitcoin in the coming months?
Post by: very_452001 on July 03, 2017, 11:03:14 PM
Can someone please clarify what will happen on August 1st? Will there be a soft fork or hard fork on that date?
What is Segwit 2x and BIP148?
MASF, MAHF?
What is this manipulated mempool data?
Where do I checkout the signalling status? Is it like that previous litecoin reaching 75% status and needs to be locked in for 2 weeks?
Also what's happening in mid-November im hearing?

1. Segwit2x is Segwit + 2MB hard fork which will activate Segwit, while BIP 148 is User Activated Soft Fork which is also for activating Segwit. Segwit2x will start signalling on July 21 and BIP 148 on August 1. If we go by current majority then Segwit2x would activate Segwit before August 1 so BIP 148 most probably would not be deployed. If you are wondering about a chain split in August then it is very less likely going to happen.

2. MASF, Miner Activated Soft Fork, MAHF, Miner Activated Hard Fork. Both these are forks activated through miner signalling, not like UASF, activated by flag day or node enforcement.

3. Mempool can be manipulated by spamming, dust transactions, done by some crazy miners to manipulate fee.

4. https://coin.dance/blocks, currently undergoing maintenance

5. Once Segwit2x activates Segwit, first part is over, the second part is 2 MB hardfork which would be around November (90 days after Segwit activation).

One way or the other Segwit would get activated by August, but nothing concrete could be said about HF at this point in time.

Very well said and explained, and to add also I've heard (correct me if I'm wrong though) that when August 1 comes there might be a possibility that bitcoin will be divided in two. And we will just have to wait for that few more weeks until it'll be activated.

This is a very big event for bitcoin, which plays a decisive role in the future development of bitcoin. Segwit2x will be voting, and i hope it can be successful.

let's assume SegWit is poison as you say.
what is the alternative?
nChain? created by whom? Craig Writ? the biggest scammer that we have ever known in bitcoin history!!!
do you really think people are going to touch something that is created or backed by someone that shady? i am 100% certain that nChain will have a trojan or some other kind of malware to steal people's coins.
and that is what we expect from a scammer.

nchain is a scam, everything created by someone that think he is satoshi is a scam lol, segwit is the only solution, not that bullshit segwit 2x, that is wrong i agree, but pure segwit is the way to go, aren't the dev team pro pure segwit? and not segwit2x? miners are instead against both because they want high fee

Upon reading some post almost 70% vote for Segwit (soft fork) and 30% on Bitcoin Unlimited (hard fork) so there is a higher chance that Segwit will be implemented on August 1 but it's still not a 100%. just make sure you have private key on your wallet before August 1 to make sure your coins is safe.

nChain is Craig's wet dream to have a centralized controlled authority over his own new coin. Will we see a repeat of Ethereum, where there is a

Foundation consisting of Roger Ver and Gavin and Jihan to have complete control over a brand new Alt coin? Anyone who are too blind to see how

this will not be Bitcoin, will have to go down with that ship.  ::)

I think segwit is the best measure of the current, although it still has a flaw, but it is the only flaw, and it can completely be overcome, compared to other methods, segwit is evaluated. Is perfect. Or if it is not accepted, I would like bitcoin core to not change.

It's a testing phase for Bitcoin but it would emerge as a winner in coming months. It might be price stagnation period or dips, but it is good chance to accumulate for future benefits.

What can be expected in the next month in Bitcoin, Personally, I expect only positive growth. I have already observed the slight fluctuations in the Bitcoin rate, but I think that such trends will continue And further. But it seems to me nothing to worry.

A permanent divergence in the block chain, commonly occurs when non-upgraded nodes can’t validate blocks created by upgraded nodes that follow newer consensus rules.

Synonyms

Hard fork
Not To Be Confused With

Fork (a regular fork where all nodes follow the same consensus rules, so the fork is resolved once one chain has more proof of work than another)

Soft fork (a temporary divergence in the block chain caused by non-upgraded nodes not following new consensus rules)

Software fork (when one or more developers permanently develops a codebase separately from other developers)

Git fork (when one or more developers temporarily develops a codebase separately from other developers

Therefore, I will hold bitcoin but not in exchanger but in bitcoin wallet which have been trusted and not affected by the existence of hard fork or segwit.

There is no exact answer with that question. I just want that bitcoin will still increases its value in the coming months. People don't want bitcoin to be dump. I am expecting a lot in bitcoin and I wold really want to continue earning bitcoin in the future. But if ever bitcoin decreases, I would probably save and just store it in my wallet and wait to increase again.

I agree. There is really no exact answer to what will happen next to bitcoin in the coming months. But for me, I think bitcoin's exchange value price will eventually get high compared to its price as of now. We only have to hold our bitcoins for a while before selling it.

I am think what is going to happen to bitcoin after this is all said and done on August 1st is what happened to Zcash spliting into Zclassic and now Zencash.
This is timeline of what happened with that coin which came out mid last year up until today::
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1819977.0

Similar to what happened to ethereum but to a lesser effect on it splitting and the then splitting again into what is what we have now in zencash.

Bitcoin has crossed $19500 and now settled near $14000. Bitcoin price was expected to cross $20000 mark by the end of the 2017. But due to year end celebrations and profit booking all over the world, bitcoin price is rolling down.  But soon it will again start rising by the end of January. This happens with all the currencies all over the world since many years. Many big financial institutions are planning to invest in bitcoin currency. As a result bitcoin price will rise in future as predicted by many crypto experts.

I think all the coins will start a move in upward direction in the coming months i personally prefer bitcoin for the future and i would like to invest in these. Bitcoin is good and the altcoin market is also soft and smooth in the present time the new coins are coming in the market. for all these the new year will be very lucky for the altcoin i have heard from the expert of this currency they published a research paper in which they mention that the crypto market is very popular and the new industries are coming to the acceptance of new shopping centrs for bitcoin.

https://b2x-segwit.io/ was made by blockstream devs.
The goal of fork is to destroy bitcoin.
Blockstream devs openly work on destroying bitcoin with fees, and now also with stupid forks.
Blockstream is on Roger Ver payroll? The only man who benefits from this SegWit drama is Roger Ver with his Bitcoin.com website. Andreas Antonopoulos, biggest 1mb limit shill, was openly paid recently by Roger Ver in form of "donations". What for he was paid over $1mil? For not liking BCH and supporting high fees in BTC blockchain? Roger Ver goal is full control of bitcoin software and bitcoin.com website, so he can be a bitcoin boss. And the only way for him to succeed is destroying bitcoin.org software.
