Could you explain that part about chain letters and clones? If you mean me, why should i feel the need to create a new id in order to open a pyramid scheme?

It's a get rich (not so) quick pyramid scheme that requests money or other items of value and promise a substantial return to the participants.

and you would log in clones in an effort to add legitimacy to the con.

because you (and your clones) are the first in line you get the money, because people would soon realize its a con then participation would cease.

It prays on the poor, the gullible, and the simple-minded.

I sent some just to test it out, will reply when a payment is received.

Q. Does the system pay people out in the order that they sent their coins, or does it pay out the lowest "owing" before paying the people who sent in larger amounts regardless of the order in which your server received the btc?

Unfortunately, I have found that I will be unable to update the pyramid for a month after next Monday, so i have shortened the pyramid to only a week long total. Sorry for any inconveniences, this is the only way I can run it.

That puts the pyramid's end at 12:00 PM (Noon) on June 27, 2011.

You've just changed the rules after you were sent money. Isn't that fraud?

Or do you intend to return the BTC (like mine) you got under false pretences instead of just pocketing them?

Title: Re: Bitcoin Doubling
Post by: tysat on June 22, 2011, 11:53:35 PM
I could pause it when I leave or pass it on to someone else. I'll leave it to suggestions.

My thought is that at the rate it is going, everybody who has already deposited is easily covered. That way, only new deposits are truly affected by the change.

Unless it sounds like a bad idea, I will keep the game running until deposit 57 (the last deposit at this point) is payed out, then if it is before Noon on June 27, the game will still end at Noon on June 27. If it is not payed out, the game will continue after a long pause. I'll just have to let the depositors decide, it affects them.

I'd be willing to help out running it if the game is still going when you have to go on hiatus.

A similar game... (if gambling is legal where you live)...

In a crowded place, lay 10 dollar bills on a table. Say to everyone that whoever lays the last dollar bill on this pile, after nobody has layed any money for 1 minute, gets the whole pile.

Of course in the end they beat you half to death when they find you or your friend brought a bag full of 1 dollar bills.

Best not to play negative sum games, or zero sum biased against you.

There were 3 deposits for 2.0 BTC on 6/22/2011. Check the addresses, one of them should correspond to one of your Bitcoin addresses. The times will appear differently based on local time and when I received it vs when you sent it.
Can't find anything that matches an address of mine - this is all I see:

I'm of two minds on the ethics of bitcoin pyramid games, see http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=20939.0 for more on that.

What's so cool about this game is that Jordoss runs an 'honest pyramid' that's completely transparent.  You can see all the transactions, all the winners, all the losers.  There's no deception involved, everybody knows that the people on the bottom will enrich the people on the top.

And unlike every other pyramid game on this forum, this one could go on a looooooong time.  It only stops when there are no deposits for 7 straight days, and the deposits are still coming in.

It's been cheap entertainment for me at least.

Thanks Jordoss for running a straight game!

Title: Re: Bitcoin Doubling
Post by: spruce on July 04, 2011, 08:27:33 PM
If it was me with the 6.66 and 7.77 deposits, I would get tired of waiting and simply pay in the balance needed to cover the payouts and fees. Then I would have made *some* profit.

Similarly for later depositors. I will do it when it gets up to my turn. If everyone does that, then the only loss is Jordoss' fee and cut etc., rather than losing the whole damn lot.

But I'm not about to pay to get my money back, more or less, until the others before me pay. It should be clear by now that no-one new is likely to make a killing, apart from the early adopters (sound familiar? :)).

Title: Re: Bitcoin Doubling

Title: Re: Bitcoin Doubling
Post by: spruce on July 06, 2011, 01:41:14 AM

Any suggestions for the pyramid are welcome, they will likely be implemented in any future pyramids (if any), but not this one.

Yes, if you happen to know how to contact any of the people waiting for a payout, tell them how to avoid losing all their money. As I described above. The 6.66 and 7.77 guy to begin with!

Title: Re: Bitcoin Doubling
Post by: spruce on July 06, 2011, 02:56:47 PM
The 6.66 BTC deposit has been paid off!

Great! My previous ideas about paying in more money were silly. Guess I hadn't had enough coffee or something. The scheme would work for the 6.66 guy, but not for anyone that had none of their payout covered.

So you're saying that this scheme wouldn't work for anyone that puts in their risk amount after someone else? You're saying this scheme wouldn't work for anyone that this PYRAMID scheme wouldn't work for? Really? /sarcasm

I think i'll put a little in hoping for the next guy to put some in. That's basically all the risk there is.

Looks like the game is still alive, with deposits dribbling in.  Jordoss is out through July 16, so the spreadsheet won't be updated until then.  Check blockexplorer to see the latest.

http://blockexplorer.com/address/1HrFjc5Mpz5agn8dk6LDF98V8sxDrWvUqY (http://blockexplorer.com/address/1HrFjc5Mpz5agn8dk6LDF98V8sxDrWvUqY)

To accelerate this, I'll offer to match up to 1 BTC a day for the next week.

If you deposit 1 BTC, I'll deposit 1 BTC, rinse and repeat.  Let's help each other out.

Title: Re: Bitcoin Doubling

Someone just deposited 0.2, and I matched that with another 0.2.

The spreadsheet isn't being updated since Jordoss is gone through July 16, so check block explorer:

I'll continue to match all deposits up to 1.0 BTC per day for the next week to accelerate the game.

im tempted to jump in, but with that 7.77 deposit holding back a lot of the other deposits, I am put off from doing so.

After all, it has been close to a month of people depositing, and the Pot is barely above half of what Mr 7.77 would get as a payout.

King Of The Mountain just started it's weekly round just over an hour ago.  You guys know the importance of getting in early.  Look at the data from the previous round (link on the left side) - most player got in on day 2.   That means if you get in now you WILL GET PAID.

round goes for 1 week.  (timer on the top of page is broken)  Started 1.5 hours ago.  GO GO Go!

Guys, there's a 10 BTC deposit just a few lines down from the 7.77 one. I don't think it's ever going to get enough coins.

Depends. This matching deposits trick could work. Take me, for example. I have deposits of 3, 2, 1 BTC all together a little further down the chain. At the moment they are a write-off for me. If all of them paid out, I'd get 12 BTC. It's worthwhile me investing a further 11 BTC in the game, say, provided I get that 12 BTC payout. I'd probably lose out on the 11 extra BTC, but I would still make 1 BTC "profit" on the exchange.

I started matching new deposits back on July 12, and said I'd do it for a week.  That week is long past, and I'm leaving for vacation so won't be able to keep up with this.

So for the next 24 hours I'll match up to 1.0 BTC in new deposits to keep the game alive.  After this time, I won't be able to match anymore.

Jordoss will be back on August 1, so the spreadsheet won't be updated until then.  Use Block Explorer instead.

Let's help each other out!
