Am I missing something or this implementation is basically going backwards on months and months of ideas, developments and talks?

If one fails to gain support from the community on they go with the next. I am not an expert by any means to make a technical comment but the experts like Peter Todd that make technical arguments are brushed off as FUD with no technical rebuttal. Also if there are bugs in their release they blame someone else.

We are at block 478599 and the difficulty is constant. Is there a set number of blocks before difficulty begins increasing again or does it depend on hashpower?
