Title: Can the Most Powerful Computer on Earth Hack Bitcoin?
Post by: Ucy on July 13, 2017, 10:38:55 AM
Let me avoid the technical aspects to make things easy for all readers.

So someone said that America's NSA has this great computer(quantum computer) that could easily hack Bitcoin private keys. I really doubt his claim but I know for sure that certain computers  like the most powerful Super Computers are within the reach of some of this Intelligence organizations.
Do you think such computers can crack any security codes put in place to make Bitcoin very secure?

I think its now impossible to do so.But when quantum computing would be introduced after twenty years, then bitcoin's security might be compromised and bitcoin might get worthless. But we may expect that some precautions might be taken much before such disasters occur.

Let me say this bitcoin is in circulation for almost a decade now every year it improves and become stable, there are a lot of hacking attempts from the past but none of them succeed. It means that bitcoin is very hard to contaminate or alter by outside forces, a lot of geniuses behind bitcoin and they will not let it happen.

It's not about the power of hardware. It is based on the code on blockchain where you have to gain access into it. I think hacking bitcoin will not likely to happen as we know the technology of blockchain you can be traced as it is the use of blockchain, to trace transactions.

The thing is, on paper, everything is hack-able. But when talking about hacking(or brute forcing in this situation) bitcoin private keys, I think it will take a very VERY long time for them to be able to score a private key. Were talking about long enough for multiple generations of people to die and be born.

I think this was already discussed before and even quantum computers are not powerful enough to brute force a private key from a public key. I am not familiar with the math but this is what I read before. And in terms of hacking, people is still the weakest link. Just do a social hack on the person if you want to steal his bitcoin. It is way cheaper.

That is right, also, bitcoin is the digital currency, what you might want to hack is the blockchain where the actions always occur, I mean the transactions of bitcoin was always happening. It was told that even a thousand super computers was used to hack the blockchain, it will not be enough. I think in the next hundred years, people will be able to hack and edit their bitcoins.

No! It's as simple as that. Firstly the Super Computer was not built yesterday, it's been there since a long time now, and if it could not attack it in its inception days, then it cannot do so now, that it's grown even stronger and better. The technology may be hacked, but Bitcoins never. Have you ever heard of them being hacked, I don't think I have heard so far or else no one would ever use them.

First of all, bitcoin network reached 7 million TH/s and its computing power is above any other single supercomputer we have on earth.
Just to give you some prospect of how powerful bitcoin network is, here is article - The Bitcoin Network is 11000x Faster than the Top 500 Supercomputers Combined:

Just note, the article is from 2015, since that time we had a tremendous rise of hashing power.

Well bitcoin right now has a great stronghold where it is protected. It has its private key so that it is so protected and no one will ever knock it down. Well if that computer you are talking about is great and can hack bitcoin keys well i think it is just a form of business. So that people who are using bitcoin will be afraid and buy that special computer just for us to secure our own wallets.

Of course it can if it generates your key pair... I think that they could and can. But still the question is how many years will they need. I still believe that it will take at least 50+ years, or I underestimate their computers.

It's not about the power of hardware. It is based on the code on blockchain where you have to gain access into it. I think hacking bitcoin will not likely to happen as we know the technology of blockchain you can be traced as it is the use of blockchain, to trace transactions.

Do you know anything about private keys and public addresses within bitcoin protocol? Yes it is hard to change the transactions but I think that this guy asks about the private keys. We all know that they are generated randomly and because of it (because there are to many combinations) for regular computer it can take a lot of years to go through all private keys which makes it to not be worth trying at all. But on other hand if you have quantum computer or even some really strong super computer you can start to guess randomly keys and you could end up with an address with coins that are related to it. Yes in theory but not for now. The Shor's algorithm makes is possible for quantum computer to bruteforce the Bitcoin private key from the bitcoin public key. This puts those with reused address or with P2PK transactions at risk. However, up till now, no one has even got close to creating a quantum computer that is possible to bruteforce the private key with less difficulty.

No. Quantum computing will not be able to bruteforce private keys significantly faster nor mine faster or create a SHA256 collision.

Everything goes back to the Super Computer user. If the user knows the code to hack Bitcoin security, then it will happen. And vice versa. As well as we know the computer is just a useless tool without the user.

You really have to wonder if it is cost effective to do so. The value of Bitcoin would drop to zero if this was possible, what do they have to gain?
Unless it was a government effectivily trying to destroy Bitcoin ofc.

Right now I don't think so, but I strongly believe that Bitcoin will have to evolve to avoid being vulnerable in the next decades. The problem is that there would be a need to orphan coins at some date. Coins that have not be moved to newer BTC addresses with a stronger hash would have to be excluded, unless it's a small amount (a few percent at most).

Good God!

Quantum computers can hack bitcoin. They're just not big enough yet. When they become big enough they will be able to hack most conventional cryptography ... this is an issue on a scale that completely dwarfs cryptocurrencies, so:

1) if/when quantum computers approach the size to crack bitcoin, we will all see it coming years and years ahead of time
2) you can be sure that if it's possible to protect from quantum attacks, e.g. by having some small contribution from quantum hashing power on the network, then it will be implemented in time
3) this is not even a bitcoin issue, it's an everything issue, so it's like worrying if worldwide all out nuclear war will disrupt the bitcoin network ... yes, probably, but nobody will care

Of all the responses so far, this I found most explanatory and its also boost my confidence in bitcoin in which I am sure if the current cappacity of the available computer can hack bitcoin, I am sure they would have attempted that. For the future, in which we all dont know yet, I am also optimistic that as at that time, its either there is an upgrade to the security apparatus of bitcoin or a mass adoption that any attempt to shut it down might disrupt the world order.

The cryptography standard ECRYPT-II regards Bitcoin to be safe until at least 2030-2040.  I doubt that even by that time, quantum computers of that speed would be accessible to the general public.

If you use a different address for each transaction, the attacker would have to find your key in the time between when the transaction is sent and when it's confirmed.  That would make it even harder.

As Bitcoin Wiki (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Quantum_computing_and_Bitcoin) points out:

A new public-key algorithm can be added to Bitcoin as a softfork. From the end-user perspective, this would appear as the creation of a new address type, and everyone would need to send their bitcoins to this new address type to achieve quantum security.
Because basic security for users' funds is an extremely high priority for everyone using BTC, consensus would be reached for this soft fork extremely easily and it would get implemented.

yeah...there is nothing impossible nowadays...when people make one application the other one will create something to hack it...but i am sure bitcoin already has something to prevent it...we hope so..

It’s not really about hacking. Due to Bitcoin’s decentralized nature there is nothing you could hack. But theoretically having a super powerful computer you can make a 51% attack. If you own more than the half of all hash power of Bitcoin, there is a potential possibility to lay down your own conditions, including double-spending. “Nothing’s impossible”, but in practice it’s not likely to happen at least because the exchange rate will hit rock bottom. And your super powerful computer won’t make any sense.

Bitcoins have an edge over other digital currencies like altcoins, eth, waves etc because of their high level standard security. Besides the decentralized nature of Bitcoins make them hard to track down since they are not owned by any particular state or government. So even if you have super powerful computer, it can't harm bitcoins in any way.

Even the weakest computer can. Because in fact, it is not about the computer either its software or hardware. It is about the hacker. He or she can do anything even only with his or her mobile phone or any simple device. Nowadays, hackers are everywhere. They can easily access accounts even if it is well secured. They can even hack government accounts and sites in some countries.

The point is, you can not trust anyone with your account. Hackers nowadays are very powerful and they do not need a "powerful computer". All they need is your IP address and if they got that, it will become easy for them to access your accounts specifically your Bitcoin wallet account. My tip is, never trust anyone with your account and strengthen your Bitcoin wallet by strengthening your password and adding a two-step verification mode.

On a sidenote, I remember reading about some guy that used his supercomputer at work (some huge tech company, forget which one) to mine DOGE a few years back. I think he got fired? Anyway, pretty sure he got caught, but not before making good bank. (DOGE was worth way more back then)

First off, before we get any further. quantum computing is nothing but huge computational potential perceived by mathematicians and computer scientists. So, people read papers and think quantum computing may one day decyper every encrypted documents which is wrong. quantum computing is a field of learning and building very advanced and powerful computers that are not yet fully developed. It may take 15-20 years or more before these computers are ready. and even when they are ready they can't decrypt every transaction on Blockchain network. :)

I am not 100% sure of what you are asking but I can tell you for sure that you do not need to know all these things to be a good trader. I have basic knowledge about having, Segwit, open-source, BIPs and blockchains. Other terms like “Git”, I know nothing about. But I am still decent at trading. Trading does not require you o know most of these terms. The only skill that you need in trading is the ability to extract or gain information about certain altcoins. You just need a rudimentary understanding of what will affect the price of the altcoin you are trading and when it will happen. Simple example, we know that when Bitcoin or Litecoin’s block reward halves, the price will go up. All a trader needs to know is when the halving is going to occur and he/she needs to have the sense to buy the altcoin at the correct time.

At this moment I think they don't have enough technology to hack Bitcoin addresses. But I'm sure there are many hackers trying to develop new methods to hack and steal others. There are threats everytime on the internet, casinos, exchanges suffer with this very often and they need to improve their defenses to protect themselves against these attacks. While the defenses are better than the attacks it's all fine.

I think the most powerful computer on Earth cannot hack Bitcoin. It is not yet possible. According to what I've read before, the security of blockchain changes almost every second or every transactions made on it (correct me if I'm wrong) so you need to decode those security one by one.

The cost of running a quantum computer is really huge and even if any government organization try to destroy bitcoin, they need to increase their power thousand fold from the current situation, there are claims that the most powerful quantum computer can reach up to 72 qubits but if they want to crack ECDSA in the bitcoin protocol they need to scale their power to over ten thousand qubits which is impossible at the current stage and lets assume they could reach those power, they could crack a few wallets with known public key and it will take years to crack one, how long will it take to crack every key  ;D . So it is practically and mathematically impossible to hack bitcoin.

Hacking Bitcoin is very hard to do because of its peculiar characteristics. While the "supercomputer" advances, Bitcoin also was being more stable. The development for the "supercomputer" still continues and I think it is hard for the computers to develop as fast as Bitcoin.

I think this is not impossible in using high technology today all is possible. Even the famous commercials banks are also victim of a hacker. Or even the website of Philippine government wayback 2013 was also hacked. So I think the best way to prevent it is to have privacy,if you have a lot of bitcoin dont tell to anybody just enjoy it to your self for your own safety. And to be practical you can encash your coin and not stored it on your wallet when it is already in a high value amount to avoid a big risk of being a victim of a hacker or scam. Be carefull because it is a big risk of lost of your coin.

Quantum computers could potentially become so powerful they require their own kind of cryptography, but that doesn’t mean Bitcoin and today’s encryption methods must be scrapped entirely. With some reworking, they could be made more secure.

I don't know exactly what a quantum computer can do from easy task to super perplex one. But even with the claims about it, i don't really think that bitcoin can be hacked by this new machine considering that a single transaction in the blockchain requires nodes for it to be confirmed.

Personally, I think this will take time and effort to crack since there are hundreds of thousands of wallet owners in the world, but when this comes I'm sure we will have developed a precaution for this. And I'm pretty confident that we will have a secure future and bitcoin will have a big part with this.

I think for this question, not only the most powerful computers on earth can use to hack bitcoin but rather even a weakest computers on earth can hack bitcoin. Why? Because It is not depends on what kinds of computers that people use for hacking bitcoin even they used luxurious quantum computers or they only use an cheapest ordinary computers in depends on their abilities, knowledge, expertise.

I didn't say that, I have no trust or I don't believe to the bitcoin system servers. We all know that it is very hard to hack but do think it is impossible to people who has an evil thoughts.

For me it depends on humans powerful minds. Do you get my point? I mean if people has an intention to do evil work there's no one can stop them. On the other hand people is unstoppable, intelligent but all things that created by human has have limitatio

If you understand me and you are agree with me you can put 1 merit I appreciate this so much. :)

I am not a technical person and i am not into computer programming but i tend to believe that no amount of computer power can hacked the blockchain because if that happens it would be the end of bitcoin.

I find it very difficult to hack a Bitcoin key because it has a series of letters and numbers that are difficult to solve.

except maybe there is a miracle where people forget to send to another address.

I think its now impossible to do so.But when quantum computing would be introduced after twenty years, then bitcoin's security might be compromised and bitcoin might get worthless. But we may expect that some precautions might be taken much before such disasters occur.

Think of new security measures. The world is changing rapidly and adapting to the new rules. So do not worry about security.

I do not know how much power I need to crack and so I can not say whether Bitcoin can be cracked with a quantum computer.

It takes complex computing technology to hack bitcoin. Power machines are actually used to mine bitcoin, it requires good and sustainable electricity to effectively gain bitcoin. Bitcoin is too complex technology that even the most powerful personalities choose to have it. Boycott haa long way to go, it will eventually change the workd in time.

Someone with sufficient computing power could take over the network with a 51% attack, but it would be prohibitively expensive and not really that damaging. They could delay transactions, and double spend, but couldn't steal balances.

No amount of compute power presently available can crack a private key, and it is unlikely any machines in the future will be able to. I've seen studies that say if the entire output of the Sun were channeled into a computer, it would take longer than the heat death of the universe to crack one key. Real quantum computers could change that, but they are wildly impractical at the moment and can barely add two numbers let alone crack a key.

Some people working at HUGE research facilities have used their super computers to mine bitcoins and they hardly mined

any bitcoins at all. So if mining is virtually impossible to get some bitcoins, then hacking/brute forcing private keys will be

totally impossible. If this was possible, all other financial systems will also be compromised, because they are using the same

algorithms to secure their sites. <https>

I am not worried at all, because the Algorithm can also be upgraded, if something like this could happen.  ;)

If you are talking about the majority attack - it is currently impossible, and it will stay that way forever I think.
If you are talking about hacking the SHA-256 algorithm which is the basis of Bitcoin cryptography (and more or less and cryptography these days) then - yes, the moment quantum computing becomes commercial, SHA-256 algorithm will become outdated. However, don't worry:
1. There isn't a real working quantum computer existing anywhere in the world. There are a few quasi-quantum computers, not yet proven to be the real thing (Google labs, Microsoft labs,... and more and more joining the race), since the problem of producing a physical qubit has not yet been solved.
2. SHA-256 algorithm will be replaced with something else long before it becomes obsolete.

I don't think that computer hardware has something to do with hacking the system of bitcoin. It is more on a software thing and I think in order to hack bitcoin you must have access to its system or codes of the blockchain and in order to have that you must've worked for bitcoin and if that happens it will give a huge wound to bitcoin as a cryptocurrency.

Hacking Bitcoin is very hard to do because of its peculiar characteristics. While the "supercomputer" advances, Bitcoin also was being more stable. The development for the "supercomputer" still continues and I think it is hard for the computers to develop as fast as Bitcoin.
Yes exactly hacking bitcoin is very hard as it has a lot of well developed and strongly safe wallets which makes it unique and safe among all other inventions, so I think no super computer can ever hack bitcoin, power of bitcoin is higher than everything and it will remain the same for decades. Bitcoin has a wallet which keeps it safe for long time without any trouble of hacking and stealing.

That is certainly true, mate. While it may take quite some time before quantum computers become practical in the mainstream world, they could threaten the security of Bitcoin if the pioneer cryptocurrency doesn't implement a Quantum-resistant algorithm. Of course, given that Bitcoin has a wealth of talented developers, such issues might not happen in the future, as upgrades are implemented into the Bitcoin protocol.

I believe that as Bitcoin grows stronger each day, it will become resilient in a way, where no external forces can penetrate its immutable ledger. In the moment, a few cryptocurrencies have already implemented Quantum-resistance such as Nexus and QRL. While they're quite ahead of Bitcoin in protecting their ledgers against quantum attacks, I'm sure that Bitcoin will not delay in implementing a new algorithm which serves such purpose.

In the end, as mining hashrate grows, and the number of full nodes becomes greater, Bitcoin will become a truly unstoppable cryptocurrency against Quantum attacks or any other attack we could think of. Just my opinion :)

This is my understanding, someone correct me if I'm wrong. In order for someone to carry out malicious attacks on a blockchain their computing power would have to atleast be more then the hashrate of the network in question. Centralization whether that's considered 51% of computing power. But I was also thinking.. what if someone gets a node to send out malicious software to every node to scramble it. I'm sure people would catch on rather quickly as full saturation of such may take awhile.

Well, given that Bitcoin has increased exponentially in hashrate over the course of days, it has become a resilient cryptocurrency against external attacks. As such, I believe that no computer not even a Quantum computer can hack and/or disrupt the Bitcoin network due to this factor. Of course, it might break the encryption of private keys and decipher them, but it could all easily be fixed by implementing a Quantum-resistant algorithm just like some altcoins have done today.

Therefore, Bitcoin can be capable of resisting attacks even from the most powerful computer on the world. The bigger the network's hashrate, the better as attacks will become more expensive to execute. Just my opinion :)

Truly it is difficult to change the exchanges yet I feel that this person gets some information about the private keys. We as a whole realize that they are created haphazardly and as a result of it (in light of the fact that there are to numerous mixes) for normal PC it can take a considerable measure of years to experience all private keys which makes it to not be worth attempting by any stretch of the imagination. In any case, on other hand on the off chance that you have quantum PC or even some extremely solid super PC you can begin to figure arbitrarily keys and you could wind up with an address with coins that are identified with it.

Probably it would not happen, the blockchain technology is very powerful as I guess and they do their best to protect how bitcoin works and how it can protect the users.

Exactly. The blockchain is a secure technology which prevents double spending and fraud. Given that Bitcoin has increased in hashrate, this gives it some additional security, as the computer performing the attack would need at least 51% of the total hashrate to disrupt the Bitcoin network. At today's costs, this seems like a very expensive attack to perform on the Bitcoin network, making it nearly impossible for any kind of computer (even a Quantum computer) to do some real damage on the Bitcoin network.

Even if Quantum computers would be able to crack current cryptographic algorithms such as SHA-256 (which is the one that Bitcoin uses), Bitcoin would quickly adapt to a Quantum-resistant algorithm to protect itself against the deciphering of private keys by such systems. Therefore, Bitcoin's developers and the community itself will work hard to maintain Bitcoin as strong and resilient as possible. Just my opinion :)

Exactly. The level of Bitcoin nodes and mining hashrate is immense nowadays. It would take a lot of effort for any kind of computer (even if it’s a Quantum computer) to be able to disrupt the Bitcoin network. While it may be possible for Quantum computers to break through the encryption of SHA-256, they can never successfully attack the Bitcoin network within its core.

Developers would quickly introduce upgrades to the Bitcoin protocol to make it quantum resistant, to protect the integrity of Bitcoin. Given that the pioneer cryptocurrency has a very active community and development team, I'm sure that there won't be any issues in reaching a consensus to make Bitcoin resistant against such attacks.

However, it would take a couple of years from now for Quantum computers to become practical in our world and pose a real threat to Bitcoin. Just my thoughts ;D

yes i agree that private keys are verry tough to crack because they are compose by random letter and numbers plus they are also written in a verry long words. Even though you have a super computer you cannot still hack it.

only phising attacks can easily catch a private key if paste carelessly to a phising site but it terms of bitcoin itself i dont think it can be hacked because bitcoin is already an open source and other people can already see or modified its code and if they can hack it they already did it before but there is no reports that bitcoin has been hacked.

well i don't think such computer can't hack btc because it involves alot of mathematics so i don't thinks with the high mathematical arrangement involve in private keys can't be compromised  by any digital system.

Bitcoin economy comes with big risks. Over the years, the Bitcoin world has been plagued by hacks, scams, and abusive practices. Users who don't take appropriate precautions can lose everything.

Here we present a short history of the Bitcoin world's most significant scams and hacks. It's worth noting that all of these attacks were against Bitcoin-related services, not the core Bitcoin software. As far as we know, the Bitcoin network itself is highly secure, though of course that's little comfort if you entrust your bitcoins to a third party that gets hacked.

Also, the list seems to skew toward older incidents. Users seem to have faced greater dangers of hacking and fraud in 2011 and 2012 than they do today.

Still, the dangers haven't gone away by any means. The Bitcoin economy is still lightly regulated, and fraud is a constant danger. While it might seem tempting to buy some bitcoins in hopes they'll go up in value, the risks are high—perhaps too high for most people. If you do decide to acquire bitcoins, do your research and be careful.

read for further details https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/12/a-brief-history-of-bitcoin-hacks-and-frauds/

If you will look at the history of bitcoin the securities are increasing and increasing because of those hacking that happened, if there will be a way of cracking it will need a longer period of time before that happens, because those hackers are profiting too in this bitcoin world they won't just do anything that will make bitcoin crash without profiting first.

First of all, bitcoin network reached 7 million TH/s and its computing power is above any other single supercomputer we have on earth.
Just to give you some prospect of how powerful bitcoin network is, here is article - The Bitcoin Network is 11000x Faster than the Top 500 Supercomputers Combined:
http://jasondrowley.com/2015/12/04/the-bitcoin-network-is-11000x-faster-than-the-top-500-supercomputers-combined/ (http://jasondrowley.com/2015/12/04/the-bitcoin-network-is-11000x-faster-than-the-top-500-supercomputers-combined/)
Just note, the article is from 2015, since that time we had a tremendous rise of hashing power.

x2

and "what about the future" arguments are also pretty invalid. as computing power gets stronger so will the network hashrate.

the only way bitcoin is dying is if people stop being interested in it, using it, mining etc.

Yes, and you can do with less.

According to this site (https://www.crypto51.app/), it costs around $600k to carry out a 51% attack on Bitcoin for one hour. Now that's scary.

I guess the reason we don't see this happening is two-fold:

1. Carrying out the attack will hurt the price significantly, thereby hurting the reward of the hacker.
2. It's hard to get access to that kind of hashrate in any practical manner.

But I worry that we will see one in the future.

Not for the best computer, but for a good software engineer  its possible. If you keep confidential reports and password details and transaction details in your system with internet connection there is a chance to hack by the hackers and loot  the bitcoiners wallet. So becarefull and keep your crypto related details in a hardware wallet it will be more safe for you.

Despite that fact that many Super Computers and sophisticated machines are initializing day by day, Likewise, Bitcoin animosity and encryption techniques are simultaneously accelerating  making it very difficult for these Unscrupulous Hackers to penetrate into Bitcoin stores and wallets, unless where there is loopholes caused by negligence and carelessness on either the part of Exchangers and or individual Holders of Bitcoin. The onus therefore lies on Holders to keep tight to safe their wallets. Pass-phrasing could be useful where necessary, while external Hardwares could maximally be employed where mandatory. Summarily, I can't ever give in that such Computers could Hack Bitcoin just on the neutral ground like that.

Do you know anything about private keys and open locations inside bitcoin convention? Truly it is difficult to change the exchanges yet I feel that this person gets some information about the private keys. We as a whole realize that they are created haphazardly and as a result of it (in light of the fact that there are to numerous mixes) for normal PC it can take a considerable measure of years to experience all private keys which makes it to not be worth attempting by any stretch of the imagination. In any case, on other hand on the off chance that you have quantum PC or even some extremely solid super PC you can begin to figure arbitrarily keys and you could wind up with an address with coins that are identified with it.

I am not familiar with the mathematics but this is what I read before. and in the case of hacking, people still a link weakest. just do it hacking social people that if you want to steal bitcoin him. it is much cheaper. I think this was previously discussed and even the quantum computer not strong enough to force the forced private key from public key.

Quote from: ?

It's something that Bitcoin's designers need to keep in mind as a "tail risk".

Quantum computers reduce the effective security of our strongest cryptographic primitives (hashes, symmetric ciphers) by about half. That is, a 256-bit hash gives about 128 bits of effective security in a world where quantum computers are used for at-scale computation. 128 bits of security is pretty good security - searching 1037 gives about a 10% chance of breaking a particular hash (finding the hash preimage). 1037 is 10 quadrillion quadrillion quadrillion - that's more than a billion billion times the number of hashes performed by the combined hashpower of all Bitcoin miners in order to mine a block.

The hash address is only 160 bits but it still requires 256 bits of search to break, that is, address=RIPEMD160(SHA256(pubkey)) minus a few technical details. Once you get the pubkey, we typically assume that a quantum computer will easily recover the private key from the public key. However, quantum-resistant public key encryption is still possible. Because of its quadratic advantage (theoretical) over classical computers, we have to double the key space (note that this may more than double key size). IIRC, secp256k1 is 128-bits equivalent security which we have to cut in half in a quantum-computation world - effective security is 64-bits. While 64-bits is too small for securing a large asset (such as all bitcoins), note that each address is secured by 64-bits security. So the cost of breaking all addresses in the UTXO set is at least 64 * nUTXO where nUTXO is the number of unspent transaction outputs. In other words, even with a quantum computer, you still have to break each address separately, and there are a lot of addresses.

Finally, quantum computation will actually help Bitcoin more than it will hurt it. As QC's begin to approach sufficient complexity to be able to mount serious attack against Bitcoin's cryptographic primitives, they are going to force cryptographers to revise usage across many cryptographic applications - traditional banking, government communication and data-storage, military communications systems, and so on. Quantum cryptography offers the promise of new modes of communication that are not possible with classical communication channels. Perhaps you can secure your Bitcoin address with an entangled set of qubits such that only the holder of the originally entangled qubits can prove ownership of the address. So, Bitcoin should not be having FUD about QC.

Address of bitcoin is RIPEMD that is QC resistant, if you generate a address and spend it only ONE TIME and don't reuse the same address, you are safe even QC becomes real.
A lot of wallets always recommend to create new address everytime you need to deposit(assuming that you already spent from previous address).

Some interesting explanation about a QUINDECILLION of addresses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZloHVKk7DHk

I don’t have deep understanding of the technical side of blockchain programming, but the concept of Bitcoin’s blockchain is simple - it is a distributed ledger that is located in multiple places simultaneously. It means that, if someone wants to hack Bitcoin, he has to attack the majority of ledgers at the same time, which is almost impossible.

However, it doesn’t mean that hackers don’t steal Bitcoins - they do it, but not because blockchain is the problem. The problem may be in the exchanges, wallets, and other players that operate with Bitcoins. For example, if hackers attack a website, it does not mean they attack the Internet.Mt. Gox is one of the most popular examples of how an exchange can collapse because of an attack. However, there are more examples of attacks. In reality, over 30% of the Bitcoin exchanges were subject of different forms of cyber-attacks.

Still, it is not about attacking Bitcoin.

The blockchain behind this cryptocurrency stays steady at the moment, impossible to be hacked or destroyed by any entity.

I think this was at that point examined previously and even quantum PCs are not sufficiently capable to savage power a private key from an open key. I am not comfortable with the math but rather this is the thing that I read previously. What's more, as far as hacking, individuals is as yet the weakest connection. Simply complete a social hack on the individual on the off chance that you need to take his bitcoin. It is way less expensive.

I dont think so. However anything is hackable but I believe the chances of hacking the bitcoin private keys is very very low. It can only occur maybe once in a zillion trials. So I don't think anyone would want to go through that stress. Hacking is possible only when the owner is careless with his private keys or ignorantly authorizing an access to it.

If the world or the big countries are want to pull down bitcoin, they can easily do it. You mentioned Most powerful computer on the earth, Then that computer and the team who made that computer they can easily hack bitcoin's system. If not now then after a decade they will can. It's not impossible to do. When super security bank like Swiss bank got hack!

As good as any computer used if it is not supported by intelligent human resources then it's like a sophisticated aircraft but no one can operate it. A smart person can create a system with software to steal bitcoin private key. So in my opinion, not a sophisticated computer but a smart person.

The thing is, on paper, everything is hack-able. But when talking about hacking(or brute forcing in this situation) bitcoin private keys, I think it will take a very VERY long time for them to be able to score a private key. Were talking about long enough for multiple generations of people to die and be born.

I thought so, I've seen in an interview that bitcoin is really hack-able but it will cost a lot of dollars to do so.

It is nearly impossible to hack the Bitcoin networks and steal. You will need to find private key for a particular public address. Private key is the combination of letters, symbols and digits. So it is not possible for any hacker to guess the private key easily and hack the network of bitcoins to steal it.
