Ripple is tough, I don't know. Hence the "??". I have difficulty even calling it a crypto really. Ripple the company can adjust the ledger any time they want which defeats the whole purpose. None the less, they definitely made their mark and deserve a place in crypto history. The best article on the long XRP story i've seen is from Bitmex: https://blog.bitmex.com/the-ripple-story/

Name changes and planned swaps are noted in brackets.

To clarify the difference between 2013 and 2014. 2013 I am doing my best to include every relevant coin, 2014 I'm only adding what people choose to send me so its missing most coins still.

New Bounty Offer!

Up to $300 for 2014 new entries. This is an offer to one person only who would like to spend some serious time on it. First person to want it gets the job, post in this thread if you are interested. I’ll send you $50 for each 50 entries you send me. Must be in same format as mentioned above. Maximum is $300 - all i can afford… So $300 for 300 entries at $1 per crypto added… but i don’t think there are that many. I guess we’ll see if someone takes this on.

                                       LTC:       LUM77hzs21dvrLwMVp2eJMsoWJDrhzEZ6Q

If i get some donations i'd like to expand the research here to include github links and brief explanations/clarifications for the coins that have a hard history to follow. Ive been as accurate as possible, but sometimes ANN threads don't adequately show when a blockchain actually launched and went live.

Does anyone know if this exists?

If not, thinking of compiling a list like this myself. Only looking at coins over 3-4 years old. By now a lot of the coins of that era have disappeared, would be helpful to quickly see of the ones that remain which are oldest.

The Wiki list of cryptos is useless and misses tons of coins. Always has been useless, I don't know why...

Yeah wikipedia has listed only a few cryptocurrencies. I don't think it would be easy to find a compiled list of all the cryptocurrencies based on their release date. I found this website, https://www.altcoincalendar.info/calendar

They have listed altcoins according to date, but I don't how accurate it is or the listed coins are in circulation now.

Yeah, compiling a list would be a good idea, but I guess it would take some time. Coinmarketcap has listed around 972 cryptocurrencies, you would have go through each coins announcement or historical data to get the release date.

It is really quite incredible to look back and see how this has progressed, it's astounding to see that bitcoin was created nearly 2 years before any other coin that is still trading, perhaps this gives some insight in to why bitcoin adoption is still much more than any other coin.

there is more than two years between BTC and second cryptocoin.
Two years in which only few of us understood the potential of this new tecnology.

No worries man, glad to help shed some light. The long term plan here is to get 2013 and earlier locked down. Then if the list is popular and worth it, look at expanding to newer years. I think adding even 2014 would make the task a bit overwhelming, so 2014 is very incomplete....lets give it another year and wait for a few more 2014 coins to die out, then we'll expand.  ;)

In the meantime tho happy to add 2014 coins too, but please give me the links to cmc and ANN threads for proof (like the first submitter did). Thanks!

Every innovation, every artwork, every single idea is built from previous ideas. Bitcoin was also derived from many different techs. Bitcoin's brilliance wasn't so much inventing something new as it was bringing many different things together in an incredible new form.

Prices are irrelevant when comparing crypto to crypto as coin supplies vary. Market cap is the best way gauge a coin's value. For instance: "42" coins (7/1/14) are worth $12000 dollars each- which sounds impressive. But its market cap is only 500k and its trade volumes rarely break 10k per day.....Whereas Litecoin has a price of $40 per coin, but has a multi-billion market cap and hundreds of millions of dollars in trading every day.

I just wanted to say "thank you" for recognizing Goldcoin (GLD) as being one of the first cryptocurrencies. We have 6 developers now and are finally getting some well-deserved attention.

Our Winter roadmap is underway and on schedule: https://www.gldcoin.com/roadmap/

The spring is shaping up to be a real Blast. Thanks again for the great list! :)

Thanks for stopping by! I'll admit making this list has gotten me to invest in some GLD already. Was checking out your info when looking for your launch details, your coin sadly has been under my radar... Congrats on the longevity!

I got into a long argument years ago with a guy from Bitgold, about how his "coin" wasnt a crypto at all and hense not really innovative.... I think that argument helped me form a prejudice against coins with "gold" reference.

I'm waiting for the uprising of Electroneum. You can mine it now through pc (mobile mining is still in process), I thought that this is now live in Cryptopia and I think this token will shock the market.

Congrats! For the holders and good luck :)

there is more than two years between BTC and second cryptocoin.
Two years in which only few of us understood the potential of this new tecnology.

That is so true, so many like me wish we had been paying more attention 7-8 years ago.   :(

Same here. But at least we have known about these now and invested earlier than others.

Electroneum is another currency launched on 1 Nov and I am looking forward to learn more about it (and invest eventually).

List of the oldest cryptos still being traded.

I'll send a bounty of $20 equivalent in crypto for additions/corrections to 2013 and earlier listings. Please send proof link for additions and corrections.

2014 I'm not completing yet, but happy to add your coin if you send me the link.

Coin must still be traded today and listed on coinmarketcap.com. Name changes and planned swaps are included.

What about I0coin?
It was launched Aug16th 2011 just after IXC
nearly died, forked, but its still alive atm. does it count?

I only looked at that once and can't remember what it was exactly. Didn't the developers have an infinite supply or something crazy. My understanding was it wasn't really a crypto at all. Also, not listed currently on CMC which i'm using as the basis for all decisions.

Cool site, but seems incomplete. Also, lots of coins that are defunct.

The purpose of this list is a quick guide if you want to buy old coins. What is still for sale out there and when did it launch. Amazing that no such list exists anywhere already. Plenty of old lists from 2014 though that are out of date and not maintained. I figure by now though, the list will be easier to maintain as most things have died off.

This is a great information that will form an historical bitcoin book.  I will also want most of this coin that have been dump to be revive back instead of bringing out uncountable coins everyday.

Thank you for the list. Not much survivors that are currently listed on the top 100, because of  all the ICO inflated marketcaps tokens + Bitcoin clonewars.

a very great list, but to do it "historical" you could add the full coin name, and the initialising dev, and put links to the ANN

Always has been useless, I don't know why...

also

I don't want 20bucks because the list is of great use to us all.

However I am sure quark can not be correct i was not here on that date but I mined quark on inception.

I am pretty sure chn if that is china coin is a bit too early too since I mined that on launch too.

However, it is a pity that you do not pay bounty for 2014  ;D

Now, it is only the time and market tested that is the true gold. I've heard that the types of coins on the market have reached more than 1200 kinds. If you don't have some investment experience, you'd better buy bitcoin. It should be safe.

Has anyone received their $20 (http://archive.is/HaMNK#selection-709.0-709.80) as yet?

Nope, I suspect I won't......good thing it didn't take more than 3 minutes time.

Agreed - too many people want something for nothing in this Forum.  >:(

Sorry guys, just got busy with real life and forgot to settle up. On it now. And yea i did pay at least one person so far....

Weird tho I see someone is killing the traffic for this post. If you google search it you find a post with the same name and a spammy link.

RC though, sorry man, screwed yours up. Of course i forgot about the massive BTC fees right now from spam attacks. Forgot to calculate fees on yours and it took a bunch, still owe you another $10-$20 i think. But i don't want to pay $20 in fees again if thats ok. If youre still around if you could send me another address. LTC, DOGE even RC is fine. Thanks again for the help!

And if i screwed up someones bounty, please let me know. Honest mistake. I'm not after something for nothing here!

Thanks

Thank you for this list,  I actually didn't ever hear about some of the currencies on this list,  so I may actually take a look at some of them and see what they are.  Perhaps there's one that's actually really good.  Will report back if I find something incredible.

Yea sorry again about dropping away for a while. I'm definitely on this and will keep it updated eventually. Sent you some DOGE. And yea happy to send more if you can help update the list further.

Thanks!

Cool, glad you like it! I think a lot of these coins are pretty incredible. Many are very cheap in regards to market cap, so new investors can get into crypto on these old coins and actually buy a significant share of supply. Also, they have years of price history to see what the market looks like long term.

Also, many of them have their original devs- that's huge in a space where crypto coding knowledge is gold. These people were launching cryptos before anyone had ever heard of an ICO- and have been doing tech support ever since. And these ICOs that old coins compete with, they have huge market caps. The devs are instantly rich and guaranteed to be long term sellers, unlike these old devs who've probably been buying up their own coins with their own hard earned money for years. Who is going to be more loyal to the project??

Tech innovation in crypto is going to make a lot of new fancy coins irrelevant as well. As more people are working on Bitcoin tech, things like smart contracts, scaling, atomic swaps...all of it is coming to every coin- even the old ones eventually. So if all coins have all functions and become equals the only thing left to base their value on will be which are oldest.

Hello, I found a coin in 2014 which you do not have. I suggest you add it to the list. It's called Machinecoin (MAC).
However, it is a pity that you do not pay bounty for 2014  ;D

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/machinecoin/

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=434190.0

Wish i could pay for 2014! But bottom line, don't think i could afford that! I figured the 2013 was pretty close and wouldn't cost me too too much.

Thanks tho, glad to add 2014 coins too!

fantastic thread but may do way better on the alt coin section... .but i love this idea

also

I don't want 20bucks because the list is of great use to us all.

However I am sure quark can not be correct i was not here on that date but I mined quark on inception.

I am pretty sure chn if that is china coin is a bit too early too since I mined that on launch too.

Yeah, I also though that seemed a bit early a date for Quark.

Thanks! I fixed up Quark. Looking at chn tho, i'm not sure. On the date i have and the ANN post i can see ppl talking about mining it on that day. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192243.0

But then maybe it was a screwed up launch and relaunch soon after? Also some on there early mentioning that it was actually launched earlier on another forum so bitcointalk date may not be accurate either as the true launch.....Same bounty if someone can sort this one out and explain the proof of when it launched. Thanks.

Thank you very much for continuing to look, but sorry FFC does not qualify. Rule #2 The coin must show a market cap. FFC's market cap is listed as "?".....The purpose of the list is for investment in digital scarcity- this is what drives Bitcoin's value. A coin that has no market cap has no verifiable supply and therefor does not have scarcity. A coin with no cap may also indicate that it is broken, likewise not something i want on the list.

I'm not saying FFC isn't a good coin, it may have verifiable supply and works fine. But again for simplicity i revert to coinmarketcap to determine legitimacy of any coin.

Of course I missed Ripple. Probably subconscious cause i don't like it. Too centralized, too corporate. BUT, it was super early in the crypto timeline.

Can anyone verify the date XRP actually launched? I can't find it. Same bounty applies. For now listed just as 2012. Thanks!

Interesting, thanks for the links. This one counts too. 2013 and earlier included for bounty, sorry didn't anticipate mistakes earlier than 2013! . .  Ripple is tough cause its very centralized and i have no idea how they actually launched. Looking at some of these threads its hard to tell if they're talking about what they want Ripple to be, or what it already is...I think it was probably a private network at first that they eventually put up public- but entirely a guess.

How about this.

If someone can nail down proof of the date Ripple was first listed on an exchange and traded publicly. I'll qualify that for a double bounty- $40.

If you could possibly alter the list to alphabetical order it would make it easier for people to assist you with missing coin names. Anyways i was going to suggest JETCOIN (JET) it was created in august 2014 and has been around a long time and is still trading in some places. Another one is BUMBA coin, i'm not sure of the date of creation for this one but it is around 2014 also and is also traded still nowadays.

There's a couple issues with Ripple. It has a built in exchange and also may have been available for purchase from exchange sites without having order books, etc, so deciding when it was first listed is probably a judgement call.  For example it looks like you could buy it from bitstamp in 2013, although it doesn't look like there was an order book or anything on the bitstamp site then (of the large exchanges that currently trade it, I think Poloniex had the first order book for it in August 2014).

I found a couple interesting things though. Here's Vitalik introducing ripple in bitcoin magazine in February 2013:

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/introducing-ripple/ (https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/introducing-ripple/)
https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/ripple-getting-started-guide-1361931573/ (https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/ripple-getting-started-guide-1361931573/)

In that last link Vitalik Buterin mentions Bistamp and WeExchange only act as ripple gateways.  So if there was active trading on an exchange by Feb 2013 it seems he wasn't aware of it.

By June 2013 it looks like it was available from many more sites:

rippletran.taobao.com : Chinese: XRP, CNY

I don't know how many of these were gateways vs. actual on site order book trading.

Yes, without a doubt, the alphabetical order is much better for search and comparison. I also had thought to suggest it, but I didn't because I thought it was a lot of work. Remistevens make a list for yourself and making the bounty, because I did not make this request. My English is bad, sorry.

Cool thanks for the links and info. Its a tough one right since exchanges didn't really exist yet when it would have become an active network. Even the notion of public vs private, its not private simply because no one at that time yet knows or cares what a crypto is. No doubt it looks like it wasn't active traded by feb 2013, but wouldn't be fair i don't think to add it as post feb 2013. It was definitely at least an active network and someone somewhere surely bought some of it from someone else. I think maybe i'll just leave it as ???2012. Thoughts? More info anyone?

If you could possibly alter the list to alphabetical order it would make it easier for people to assist you with missing coin names. Anyways i was going to suggest JETCOIN (JET) it was created in august 2014 and has been around a long time and is still trading in some places. Another one is BUMBA coin, i'm not sure of the date of creation for this one but it is around 2014 also and is also traded still nowadays.
Yes, without a doubt, the alphabetical order is much better for search and comparison. I also had thought to suggest it, but I didn't because I thought it was a lot of work. Remistevens make a list for yourself and making the bounty, because I did not make this request. My English is bad, sorry.

Sorry, Im terrible with handling data.  I will be taking all this info and getting a web designer to help me. Eventually there will be a nice site, links to markets, links to ANNs, full coin names, sort function, ranking numbers....it's gonna be great, but sorry will take a bit of time. Probably have it up and running in January.

Thanks! Yes its fun (and profitable) to try and find which of the new coins will survive the test of time like these old favourites.

Hello, sir! Please update the list of coins to date. Maybe I have a coin which is not in the list. But coinmarketcap is capitalization, but there is no trade costs(?). They are suitable? I saw the same in your list.
P.S. Sir, if I understand correctly, you credit me with the bounty. If so, could you check your transaction? About the Ripple I found, it may be of interest to you.

Maybe you want to say that looking at this line we can say that the coin is not traded? But in my post there is nothing about the beginning of the auction. I searched and found some interesting things for the researcher (I think). And gave part of his work to the researcher. And this is all I have in this post. Maybe I not understood correctly. Then I'm sorry. The language barrier is a hindrance.

I was about to make a thread about this, few weeks back. Its just that I don't have enough time due to my work and other errands. Thank you for providing this list!

I know there's a lot of crypto being created during Bitcoin early days. This is a great reference to start with, especially for new traders. It might also serve as a big help to other unpopular coins that having a rough time to rise up. All they need is more awareness and publicity.

I'll try to contribute in this thread once I find time to do some research. One suggestion though, I think its a good idea to indicate the developers of these digital coins. So, people that were into ICO's, will have an idea for the past projects of that particular developer or team.

Peercoin was one the coins that was traded for a long time and the new coins are using the code from that coin as well.

It's weird. Not to go into the thread which he did. I think the bounty should be closed or continue. But you need to make an announcement and payment. I spent a lot of time to search for coins and replenish the list. I'm still not published, some because I am waiting for answer to previous questions. I thought that the thread Creator is interested in our work, but it seems it is not.

In these alt infested times it's really interesting to see how few there were in the early days. Strange that it didn't occur to more people.

Also interesting that tenebrix, one of the very first, had the same premine issues as all the later ones.

Thanks! Yea having info on the devs for each one would be awesome. A lot of the smaller coins it changes a lot too. And then so much anonymity and speculation about who is who....I'd love to have it, but way beyond my ability to put together.

List of the oldest cryptos still being traded.

Criteria for addition to this list:

3) 2013 is a complete list. $20 bounty offered for spotting corrections. (DOGE or LTC please- BTC fees too expensive right now!)

This is clever, haha. hmmm. Thanks for your help anyways bounties sent!....I'm going to argue that you have pointed out an "error" within the list of criteria, but not within the real list which is the list of cryptos. So it is not an error with "the list" as i've referred to it. Also, I'd argue that it is not incorrect, but maybe unclear. I will change the language to clarify. What we have is "my" completed list, as opposed to "the" completed list. BUT, there can never be a "completed" list so really this is a philosophical argument. Whatever is posted here will always in time need updating as coins die and fall off the list and coins not currently trading but still alive could make their way back onto markets as someone suggested. The difference between 2013 and 2014 is that 2014 I am making no effort to attempt to get all coins added.

It is interesting to note that from 2009 to 2014 (five years), the number of different cryptos released was less than 100. And during the next 5 years (2014-2019), more than 10,000 different coins were released. Any guesses for 2019-2024?

Surviving still that may be true, but i think at the time there were way more than 100 actually released. Most just died.....I agree tho completely with your point. More coins are released all the time. Its just gotten so easy. There are several projects now where you can just go to their website and anyone can launch a coin with no skills. Punch in the stats you want and whammo, new crypto.

New Bounty Offers!

$50 if you take my current 2013 list and update it with hyperlinks to coinmarketcap markets page, charts page and the ANN thread of coin. Also make it spaced out nicer.
So for example double spaced like this and lined up for each coin. Also “Market” “Chart” and “ANN” click directly to the pages.

FTC     17/4/13      Market    Chart    ANN

MNC    23/4/13      Market    Chart    ANN

CHN     1/5/13       Market    Chart    ANN

Also as you’re going through you might spot corrections and get the other $20 bounties still in play.

IF YOU TAKE THIS ON. Please mention it in the thread so no one else works on it and wastes their time. At the end of the day I’m paying whoever delivers first. If someone beats you to posting it, there is no bounty for a second poster sorry.

$20 Same as above, but do it for the existing 2014 list.

I’ll check in much more often over the next few weeks to update and pay bounties for the new stuff quicker.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

Thanks again, sent a bounty for your Ripple contribution. Sorry for the delay, I'm still here. Will try to check in more often.

I have a few coins, but I have to check them.  I did not investigate anymore. You have not been there for a long time. I'll see what else can be done. Unfortunately, English is not my language and it's hard for me to understand what's written here. An automatic translator does a poor job.

wheres is stellar lumens (xlm) ? I follow their promotional program in 2013-2014. when it is not known the term bounty campaign. the previous name is just stellar and now it has changed to stellar lumens. I think XLM is one of the best old coins that can survive to this day. This coin was the first and became my first path involved in the crypto industry. good to see that XLM can survive until now

I suggest you look at these coins, which were released in 2013. I have been searching for a long time and it seems to me that they are suitable. I'm also preparing a list for 2014, but it will take longer than I thought. The criterion as I understood it is the announcement on the forum. Sorry, no did not pay you for ICN. You bring up an interesting problem with methodology here though which is appreciated. I've said "oldest cryptos". Technically, in 2013, ICN was not yet a crypto. It'd have to be a launched coin that is live to technically exist as a crypto and not just an idea. They even called that post "Pre-ANN".

The problem this brings up though is the discrepancy between when the coin is announced and when it actually launches. Most of these old coins, the devs posted the wallet and code at the same time as their ANN thread, but often that wouldn't be exactly when the chain went live....Eventually i'd like to confirm some of these dates using github. I'd think that would be the best ultimate decider. Between github code being posted and ANN threads of Bitcointalk. Could probably clear up discrepancies. A task for later. For now i'd say the dates are probably pretty damn close and reliable. Even if code came out later than ANN, not likely more than a couple weeks later probably so pretty close.

Also, since this cost me a bit by now, going to ask for donations here:

I do not suspect you of dishonesty. I just spend VERY much time searching. It's hard. You rarely go. Every time, after a while, I start to think that I've wasted my time. Understand me. I do not want to say anything bad.

I designated Riple 26/09/13 being guided by this -

Hey all!

It's my great pleasure to announce the release of the rippled p2p node source-code, the code that implements the Ripple protocol and powers the Ripple payment network. In conjunction with the open-sourcing we're also announcing that OpenCoin Inc. will change its name to Ripple Labs Inc.................

...............Cheers,

Stefan Thomas
CTO, Ripple Labs Inc.

PS: Cross-posting this on the Ripple forum (https://ripple.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3718) as well.
If it's not right, say it and I'll redo it.

And finally I could not find anything about Omni, except this:

I will make a list by the end of this week. Do not go away for long. At me where that is a coin of 2012, if I remember correctly, I will find and publish soon.
I do not suspect you of dishonesty. I just spend VERY much time searching. It's hard. You rarely go. Every time, after a while, I start to think that I've wasted my time. Understand me. I do not want to say anything bad.

Remember in 2013 you could have giveaways right here on BCT most old NKA threads had been deleted due to rules later made by admins of this site. Shame really that people can’t look back and see the huge distribution to the members in this forum.

Ah right, thanks that makes sense. I wonder if this probably impacts other links, weird tho i dont remember having others where the google result looked different than the link when clicked through.

Love to give you bounty for this one too, not sure where to send it tho...

Wow, really usefull information. Thank you a lot. It is so interesting to know the history of cryptocurrency. In my opinion we are those people, who help grow the crypto and develop it.

When drawing up the table, it was found:

3. The RC coin has an ANN 14 year old, but has been trading since 16. What say you?

  RC    Market (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/russiacoin/#markets)   Chart (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/russiacoin/)   ANN (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1083032.0)

Please note the #RussiaCoin [ANN] thread link is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1083032.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1083032.0) and has been in regular use since the 6th of June, 2015.

RussiaCoin was listed on BleuTrade (https://bleutrade.com/exchange/RC/BTC) and Bittrex (https://bittrex.com/Market/?MarketName=BTC-RC) (both were paid listings) however, when both pulled the plug we reached out to Cryptopia and then later on without being asked TradeSatoshi has listed us.

A couple of wallets in the RussiaCoin Explorer Top 25 (http://blockexp.com:3801/richlist) appear to be the exchange's (BleuTrade and Bittrex) hot wallets as they haven't been touched since 2015.

............

the talk is about this:

List of the oldest cryptos still being traded.
.........
RC  29/5/13
.........

Your coin can not be designated 2013 year. At the same time, the list should indicate the first insistence on the coin. The first one is in 2014. In the thread of the announcement it is seen that the pre-order was declared, so there was another text. I think that this announcement can be considered as the first. We had to make the most accurate list, so I did so.

I prepared a list of coins in 2014, but the author of the topic comes here so rarely that the desire to continue to do this has disappeared ...

It is extremely very mind blowing to think back and perceive how this has advanced, it's dumbfounding to see that bitcoin was made before every other coin that is as yet exchanging, maybe this gives some understanding in which bitcoin is ahead of other coin

If i get some donations i'd like to expand the research here to include github links and brief explanations/clarifications for the coins that have a hard history to follow. Ive been as accurate as possible, but sometimes ANN threads don't adequately show when a blockchain actually launched and went live.

Bitcoin is the most safest, the most successful and the most popular crypto currency of the present times and because of this, there are millions of people who are being crazy about the bitcoin and the most sustainable and the most volatile crypto currency has attracted the keen interest of many big companies and industrialists around the world and these people are now the bitcoin whales who are investing a lot in bitcoin so bitcoin is the topper of all the crypto currencies available in the market and I think etherum comes the second.

Ripple is tough cause its very centralized and i have no idea how they actually launched. Looking at some of these threads its hard to tell if they're talking about what they want Ripple to be, or what it already is...I think it was probably a private network at first that they eventually put up public- but entirely a guess.

It's been almost a year since Bitcoin was trading close to $ 20,000, but that's not stopping the market innovation from reaching other types of records.

In fact, according to Coinmarketcap, the leading crypto-data data tool, there have never been more crypto-coins than now. Launched in 2013, Coinmarketcap listed the number 2,000 token this month in its toolkit.

According to current figures, the site calculates the average of 422 newly listed crypto-coins per year.

Just like a time ago, bull market seems to heal all wounds, predicting the positive impact a rising market in 2019 could have on new projects.

I'm still waiting for your decision on the list made by me and the coins, which can no longer be included in the list.
