Title: What do you suggest me to mine?
Post by: Greenlee on May 14, 2013, 12:12:42 PM
I have

GPU: 8x Radeon 7950
Power Supply:2x 1250W
RAM: 2x8GB DDR3
HARD DISK: 2x120GB

But I don't know what is the best to mine atm, I know that I would be the worst at bitcoin, then I thought about Litecoin, but I am not sure could you give me some suggestions.

Thanks in advance
GreenLee

I guess you should stick with scrypt. Check coinchoose.com for the alt-coin with highest income  ;)

Litecoin of course

Better don't mine crap like CNC which will die short after given birth. Probably best is to stick with LTC for now. It at least has prospects in rising values.
Don't trust the short-term hype on sites like coinchoose. Sooner or later these coins will be dead and their value is gone. Better mine something solid like BTC or LTC. I would go for LTC since I think it has a higher chance of rising than BTC right now(imho).

Good luck mining.

I might gamble with FTC if I have that much power though the price is a little low now

If you use CryptoSwitcher (linked to on Coinchoose) it will switch based on profitability then auto exchange to BTC.  So basically, it will help you deal with short term swings.

LTC seems to be the way to go for GPU miners at this point. Though BTC isn't terrible right now, as more ASIC units hit the market, I would imagine it will become unprofitable shortly. Then again, who knows?

I keep reading that that the value of all altcoins are dropping vs the bitcoin.  So if I were a miner (thought about buying some ASICs, decided against it), I'd put my GPU rig into a BTC pool.  Yes, the hashrate is exploding as ASICs come online, but wouldn't you rather be mining something that's increasing in value relative to its peers??

The price came down a bit on the other coins (profitability is really a function of difficulty and exchange price), but it is still using BTC as the base.  I am adding LTC as the base in the next day to coinchoose.com for additional decision making.

For the GPU's, go with a scrypt-based coin like Litecoin early on.  Lots of good Pools.

Once you have gathered a bunch, you can play with trading sessions or get into some other alternate coins and see if they pay off.  Patience is key.

If you want to maximize what you mine right now, you can look at my site (and depends on what you want your "base" to be).  Mining litecoin is the best if your base is a LTC (as the other currencies have a poor exchange into LTC.  Mining BitBar is marginally better right now if you want to exchange into BTC right now.  If you believe you should be long in any other crypto-coin, I'd still suggest mining these two and then exchanging into the others....

Many of the answers are based on emotion not math :)  So either go with your gut or mine based on what math shows is the best right now.

If I were him, I would mine PowerCoin it is the most profitable right now. And its has the biggest potential to be succesful, set aside those other silly failed clone coins. Powercoin has even more advanced features than bitcoin itself.

What exchange is "PowerCoin" on?  How do you gauge its "profitability"?

You would be a fool not to mine PWC right now.

Love how cool NWO is about advertising PowerCoin! XD

Nonetheless, it is true that it has the highest profitability right now, so for a new miner it may be a good idea. Though, make sure you watch that profitability! I picture a difficulty jump now that so many miners have jumped on due to profitability.

I definitely wouldn't mine Bitcoin with GPUs anymore unless you have access to free electricity. I would either mine LTC because it's well established or research a coin that you think has all the attributes to one day 'make it'.

If you are looking for pure profit, WDC is the current best that is actively being dumped on exchanges.

If you want to get in on the ground level of something, DigitalCoin is probably going to be the next WDC, although PhenixCoin could compete. I just can't stand the Phenix spelling that the developer used. It will always be phoenix for me.

I've got my miners pointed at DigitalCoin.
