Seems I cannot trade with people from Canada due to some strike. Somebody has any info on when might it end?

Workers got locked out because the Govt. wanted to cut pensions and pay in a new contract.  Workers said fuck you.

Incorrect - most workers did not say "fuck you", it was the union (CUPW).  Simply because they are greedy and cannot accomodate a DYING business.  Pension cuts and rate cuts were for new workers ONLY (i.e. someone not hired for full-time yet) and rates would go up over time served.  Sounds, reasonable, no?  Better than say... no job? and instead of getting the exact same pay as people who have been in there for 30 years +.  Union is scared as a result because their Union dues will be a whole lot less.

Unions are draconic and self-serving.  At any rate, hopefully the conservatives do this right and force back to work legislation so people can start working and get some money again; the union sure as hell aren't paying them anything.

This is called union busting. You hire a bunch of people making half the wage, then slowly start firing/laying off everybody else who makes the higher wage.

Canada Post can easily make a system like Technocash.com and make money from internet merchants to pay whatever demands the union has. They could also model themselves after Swiss or French post, where you can do all your banking, send money and other financial services.

They already have a brick and mortar building in every city in Canada, why not use it for merchants and make huge money on fees. They could even release their own ATM cards for merchants and take 4% fees yet still be 1/4 the price of Visa/MC payments.

Lock-outs are what happens when the employer says "F-U" to the union. Strikes happen when the union says "F-U" to the employer. Before the lock-out, the union was on a rotating strike. With the lock-out, nothing but social security checks and a package of live bees is moving.

The Canadian government introduced "back to work" legislation on Monday. I expect it to be at least a week before mail is moving again.

All I get in the mail is bills(which I pay online) and junk/spam. Lay there ass' off. Be realitic, mail service is dying.

With how stupid the CRTC is acting, You need Canada Post. They are that fastest, cheapest way to move large amounts of data across the country.

Since finding out my ISP has said they will start injecting advertising in the browser, I have been using Canada Post for out-of-band communication. Since I have a bad habit of reading fine print, I can't use any electronic transactions except Bitcoin for ordering things over the Internet (so use mail for that too).

what kind of ISP injects ads? If this happened to me, I'll switch to another service, or tunnel all my connections via ssh to a remote shell.

They were redesigning their website in January. I assume the changes were made about then. I only read them just before the election when they sent out an ADSL 2+ modem without explaining "why" in terms I actually believe. They say I can get faster Internet in the future, but with a bandwidth cap of 75 GB, I don't want faster Internet.

I ended up downloading the Spec for the modem: Backward support for traditional ADSL modems is optional. I suspect they want to take advantage of better byte counting in order to bill overages. I won't help them do that until I set up my own byte counter on my router. Intend to do that when I move to IPv6. With pending Internet surveillance legislation (and those TOS), my router will be sending Web traffic through an OpenVPN tunnel run by the Pirate Party as well.

PS: Two months ago, I was one of those people that did not understand the need for ubiquitous encryption. As important as encryption is authentication.

Update: The back-to-work legislation has received royal assent. Mail is expected to start moving again Tuesday, June 28.
