Title: silencing ASIC miners to use them as heating
Post by: Mr_Snipes on July 28, 2017, 06:13:06 PM
All that heat mining generates got me thinking a bit...
It's a shame that all that hot air is treated like a waste-byproduct.
I'd like to use that heat to keep my kitchen warm in the upcoming spring and winter.
Since these ASICs are a bit loud i started digging for solutions to reduce the noise.
Some people build enclosures and lower the noise a little bit- like this guy:

I was thinking about using sound-dampening foam or bitumen-mats.

Or build a pc with 2 or 3 gpus.

I and lots of peoples I know use mining rig to heat houses. Rigs in almost all room in past :)
But in that case you must go on silent cards and power suplies. For example in past was
very good for that kind of buisnies to use msi gamin x series of cards, like msi 380, card
is almost without any sound, and with combine with rmx 1000 you have perfect rigs for
house :) Now for is good msi 1060 gaming x, on ethereum almost passive cooling :)
And design of mining rig is also need to be change, best is that use 4 cards and all of them
to take cold air, not from other cards.

I don't mind some noise in that room, we eat in another one.
If i cannot hear much through the closed door, that will be optimal.

Are you guys using electrical heating in your houses by default ?
I have some local heating-provider as default.

You might want to look at 0db mode GPU's.

For instance, the ASUS R9 380 in 0db mode doesn't turn on the fans until 60C.

A variant of this idea is to run GPU's at a higher temp say 75C to 78C

ok, i changed the headline a bit to clarify it:
My question is how to get these ASICS more silent.
I know that the GPUs offer more options but my question is targeted towards silencing Antminer-ASICS in particular
