Yes to verify something say i am running a full core 0.14.1 node and August 1's rolls around i can simply download the bcc core qt copy over the data folder place my wallet.dat file in the bcc data folder and run bcc client.. I should in theory have bcc coins when it loads.. correct?  Also my btc should remain intact on the 0.14.1 core side right?

If I understand it correctly, than you have to choose a differnt folder and port or you destroy your bitcoin core install.

So better - as usual - save your wallet.dat somewhere safe. Maybe twice on different place wouldn't be a bad idea.

I don't know about bitcoin core wallet but Electrum new version just does what you are asking, it loads both version of coins if a hard fork happens.

No it doesn't, not for BCC (-> https://electrum.org/bcc.txt).
In case of a UASF/BIP148 chain split, it would, but in case of a UAHF/BCC split, it won't.

How to redeem my BCC?

BCC wallets will require you to import your seed or your private keys,
which can be exported from Electrum. Doing so will expose all your
Bitcoin funds associated with that seed to the BCC wallet you decide
to use.

Therefore, *after* the BCC fork, but *before* you enter a seed or
private key in a BCC wallet, you should move all your funds to a new
Electrum wallet, with a new seed. You will still be able to use the
old seed or private key with BCC, because BCC has replay
protection. Wait until your funds are confirmed in your new Bitcoin
wallet, before you enter the old private key in a BCC wallet. This
will protect your BTC funds from rogue/untrusted software.


So one the most trust Bitcoin wallets tells me using BCC wallet might be unsafe for my coins. Now I d like to see BCC supporters come to me and tell me to do anything else with BCC besides dump it as fast as I can.

Well what i was shooting for was just to copy my btc wallet.dat into the bcc data folder and see if that would be the same as importing private keys :)

You could use the electrum fork for BCC and import keys as far as I am concerned. The link to the binaries or source is at BCC's website.

There's nothing to be mixed up. BCC or BCH wiil be a part of Bitcoin that has gotten so annoyed with ridiculous bullshit of Core and defecting of regular users (i've seen estimate about 50% , that's why price has dropped to 1700$). Because of that Bitcoin BIP148 will be decreased in value, if speculators and whales won't step in.

What should I do to get BCC?

Simply put - nothing. Just wait hard fork, after that if you're keepin your bitcoins in exchange, they may or may not give you Bitcoins BIP148 and BCC. If you're keeping your bitcoins in private storage, then just wait until wallets will make official announcements what version of which wallet conforms with BCC code for sure. Right now it's a bit of commotion.

There's no telling what should be reaction of other miners to BCC. They may be prone to try to DDOS BCC, and it's not obvious whether you can trust your private key, because if you showed it in order to get Bitcoin BIP148, there's a chance, it might be used to stole your BCC. So just relax and wait for further development. Don't move your coins until this tumult will settle down

Easiest way:

- make a backup of the wallet.dat just in case

- install their client to a different directory than the default

- copy your wallet.dat into the Bitcoin Cash client directory

- run the Bitcoin Cash client. You should now have a Bitcoin Cash and a Bitcoin Core client

How does this compare to the ethereum fork a while back? Coinbase credited me with ETC for the ETH I was holding at the time, so I wound up with both. While the ETC initially was worth peanuts, its recent rise made it worth something. It was free money for nothing.

Am I correct in understanding that if I keep BTC at Coinbase, I'll get no BCC (since they said they won't support it)? And if I move the BTC to my own wallet (or potentially another exchange), I will get the BCC?

Somehow this seems wrong. Just by moving the BTC to my own wallet, I can get BCC as free money that may be potentially worth a great deal, as with ETC?

Simply put, yes

My advice is send your bitcoins to an exchange that has announced they will not take their client BCCs and let them do it for you. Many on this forum will be able to recommend reliable exchanges.

The full desktop client applications are too useless to bother with.

Its a free coin from them. ;D
And I dont know what are they up to this giving bcc as equivalent of your btc.
You just need to transfer your btc into electrum and you'll get bcc.
I highly doubt this coin, I just watch this coin closely.
