Title: Mining @ 1.2GH/s....Solo or Pool?
Post by: Sk1llS on May 15, 2013, 02:20:05 PM
Hi,

I can mine at 1.2GH/s with my PowerColor HD7990. Should I join a pool or go solo?

Are pools meant for those doing ~400MH/s or are they for anyone not running BFL/Avalon equipment?

Thanks!

join a pool, 1.2 Ghs is not enough to find a block, until you find a block you get 0 mining solo  ;D

Even most people running ASICs still use pools. It's just a way to reduce your variance.

The prospect of mining a 25BTC block and suddenly becoming $2,500 richer in one minute is tantalizing. However, it's damn near impossible.

From http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ for 1.2GH/s at the current difficulty:
Quote
Average generation time for a block (solo) - 1 year, 98 days (can vary greatly depending on your luck)

And this number is only going to get higher as the difficulty goes up.

Read thru there, and pick one. I like Ozcoin, but I've used Bitminter, Slush, and EMC before as well.
