Title: Hacker tells Bitcoin creator, 'You are not safe. Get out.'
Post by: fred dave on August 03, 2017, 03:02:46 PM
Someone has taken over the email account belonging to the inventor of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency, the fabled Satoshi Nakamoto. The email account is the very same one used to publish Bitcoin's original whitepaper, the document that became both its mission statement and its technical foundation.

One year ago Polygon embarked on a quest to find Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. We weren't the first, nor were we the last.

Most recently, Newsweek seemed sure that they'd found Nakamoto, a quiet man hiding in plain sight just outside Los Angeles. But their story didn't stick. The man they pointed the finger at, Dorian Nakamoto, says it's not him.

"I did not create, invent or otherwise work on Bitcoin," Dorian said through an attorney. "I unconditionally deny the Newsweek report."

So, the internet went about trying to find Nakamoto the old fashioned way; by hacking into his personal email account and stealing his private information.

Wired reports that someone calling themselves "Jeffrey" has performed the hack. Inside the email account he has found information that could lead to revealing Nakamoto's true identity. To spice things up, Jeffrey says that he will release the information for 25 Bitcoins, about $12,000 at the going rate.

Wired wasn't able to determine how Jeffrey broke into Nakamoto's account, nor were they able to get much information out of him. But the email address in question had been largely dormant since 2010, when Nakamoto went underground. Monday that address was used to post a message on a cryptocurrency forum.

"Dear Satoshi," reads the post. "Your dox, passwords and IP addresses are being sold on the darknet. Apparently you didn't configure Tor properly and your IP leaked when you used your email account sometime in 2010. You are not safe. You need to get out of where you are as soon as possible before these people harm you. Thank you for inventing Bitcoin."

The only first-hand verification of the hack comes from Michael Marquardt, a member of the Bitcointalk.org forum. He sent Nakamoto some emails in March of 2014. Marquardt says that Jeffrey shared with him excerpts of those emails, and the only way he could have gotten them is from inside the encrypted account.

"I'm pretty sure," Marquardt said, "that this is just some troll in it for the laughs."

Thats funny, I think people will never stop their search about who is Satoshi Nakamoto.
Anyway Bitcoin is now full live currency and doesn't really matter to know who is its creator.

This is old as hell. I remember reading about this years ago. I don't know what else did they hack beside the account. In fact I think it was not even a hack. The gmx account (satoshin@gmx.com or satoshi@gmx.com I dont remember) expired and someone else just registered it, ten claimed to have satoshi's dox.

Of course this was bullshit because satoshi was never hacked, doxed, or compromised in any way.

it is well know at crypto community when a cryptographer/team don't want to show his/her/their real identities and protect pseudo names is pretty much hard to find out ...

for instance .. who are Linux tails developers ?

So what kind of emails theymos sent to Satoshi in March of 2014 ? Like notice his bitcointalk account is frozen to prevent abuse in the case of hack ?

Yeah! That’s indeed ludicrous. Hackers can’t destroy anything. They can’t do any harm to bitcoins. Bitcoins security level is damn high. I don’t think so they have any fear of getting hacked by the hackers.
Fools can just talk about destroying bitcoins. Their dreams can never ever come true.

Old news. Nothing really interesting here. I don't know what's the obsession of people looking for satoshi. He left for a reason and he doesn't want to be found for maybe another reason. Then why are you all trying to find him? Also, bitcoins has flourished even without him. He maybe could not have imagine it will reach this far. Also, I remember he discussed on this very forum that he did not want a block size increase, but where are we now.

He's making it look like he cares about satoshi's well being. What a nerve! It's like a thief telling you where you can get a cheap car after stealing your own.
Dear satoshi, I'm selling your dox, so run before they find you! Oh, and thanks for bitcoins sucker!

his email address was broken into about 3-4 years ago. why are you digging this up now?

i think he knows a little more about security than some little 4chan prick.

The funny thing is what will they get if they find Satoshi.
The bitcoin is already out and it can be seen in plain view. It stands alone and doesn't need Satoshi anymore.
Maybe they should focus on finding a way to control bitcoin rather than looking for the creator. They wont get anything from him.
It is like looking for the publisher of the Bible while the people already knew what is inside it. What will they gain if they find the publisher? Nothing. The news is already out and their only way to stop it is to burn all the Bible in the world which is a hell of a problem.

It is funny how some script kiddie is telling the one who made the greatest invention of internet of all time ,Bitcoin that he did not know to protect himself very well. Satoshi is not afraid nor of any hacker nor of any three letter agency, he is safe where he is and I think we should leave him alone if he decided to abandon the scene by his own choice. Choices are to be respected especially in such cases where he is the inventor of the greatest financial technological revolution.

I don't know when the drama about this Satoshi true identity will ever end as we have seen several people claiming to be him all in the sake of seeking relevance and to be in the news. Yet they continue to meet a dead end at every point of their discovery and I still believe this is another one that will end in that direction also for another news to hit the airwaves again.

Why post this bud? I've seen this two times now, both of those times were from over a year ago. This isn't anything new and we've heard the same old news already. For all we know it was a troll who was in it for the laughs, but at this point it is pretty obvious that no-one bothered to capitalize off of what was found, if anything.

Next time include a source and pick something a bit more recent, because this is far from being relevant or interesting.

Yes, this is an old story, and also I already read some posts or "article" with different version so I guess this is just another lleh story to read on.
We do not need to hunt Satoshi, he is keeping himself to the public, so why hunting?  That is so ridiculous. I guess instead of threatening him all we need to do si thank him for the idea of creating bitcoin, because now it is peaking again and soring high compare to other coins the pump and dump.

There are many reasons of why people are looking for satoshi, one is the money as you can see the person making this claim wants money, another is the prestige, some people want to be known as the person that identified satoshi, it has been said that whoever identifies satoshi will earn a Pulitzer, other possibility is simple curiosity, people love a good mystery and satoshi is one of the biggest mysteries of this century together with the mh370.

So, how did you come to the conclusion that it was Theymos? Any proof to that effect? Anyway, I really don't see any difference it will make now getting to discover who Satoshi Nakamoto is except to endanger his life. His discovery won't in any way aid the upward movement of Bitcoin. He won't even last a week if people get to know his identity as definitely someone would want to hack him to death just to prey his keys out of him.

Interesting read. Regardless of the date of original posting, i wonder if and how much of it is actually real. I doubt satoshi could actually get hacked as easy as that.

I wonder why satoshi would even be scared to show his true identity? What harm, aside from paparazzi, could come to him?

I really don't understand the obsession with him and why people feel the need to post stuff like that. You will never find out who he is. He doesn't have to be careful he is fine. Better then fine. right yea I doubt Satoshi is really worried about those documents and passwords
they are more than likely worthless as he has left them dormant.

"you are not safe, you need to get out of where you are...." where is that then?
if no one can find him he is perfectly safe  ???

"before these people harm you" who are these people?

for gods sake what in peoples infatuation in finding "Satoshi Nakamoto" he aint gonna
be found unless he wants it. I think the man [or woman] has covered their tracks very
well. I think if you can invent Bitcoin you can handle anonymity pretty well  ;D

Satoshi is probably the only person that has not benefited from bitcoin, I know it is ironic, but if he began moving his coins everyone will know in an instant, people are monitoring those addresses looking for activity, he cannot just mix the coins since the mixer will know it was him, so satoshi has a potential fortune but he cannot touch it unless he plans to reveal himself.

It is virtually impossible to truly hack Bitcoin. 99% of the Bitcoins which are hacked are from users who do not secure their accounts well enough and leave their coins on public exchanges and 3rd party wallet sites which inevitably will go down.

If people used paper wallets instead and only used trading sites/exchanges to trade rather than store their coins then the risk of getting exit scammed drops very low and crypto would be a safer place.

Correct, satoshi has not spend a single coin also we do not even know if he has the private keys to those addresses anymore, if he was so determined to never reveal his identity then it makes sense that he no longer has access to those funds and that those coins are lost forever, it is very likely that satoshi the creator of bitcoin does not hold any bitcoin anymore.

It’s only a worthless fool that has nothing doing in his life, would have time to be playing such rubbish game in the internet.
