Title: No more moderator in french
Post by: JohnUser on August 06, 2017, 10:35:20 PM
Hi,

As I said in topic we don't have anymore moderator on French local board, that's a big problem, 2 month i'm doing job myself but without rights.

I have no idea where to post it, thanks for help, local French have become a big mess, as we invest thousand million we deserve a real moderator, maybe he is sick..

thanks again

1) Move this thread to Meta as it is not about someone's rep.
2) The moderator is kcud_dab (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=85550), who was last seen yesterday thus he should be active.
3) Are you sure you're correctly reporting posts?

Maybe this needs checking out, @theymos.

What job have you been doing exactly? What issues is the board currently facing?

2) The moderator is kcud_dab (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=85550), who was last seen yesterday thus he should be active.

He's still active as in he still logs on but going by the mod payments he isn't very active in moderating especially compared to other local board mods. Some local boards require more moderation than others though so I can't comment on how badly another mod may or may not be needed there.

Are there many other French users that share your concerns? Maybe they can offer their input here.

Yes he connect but don't care about us anymore. I spend too much time on my own life to do it, find a new one please.

I will move the topic.

Sorry for the spam... OP seems to think that I'm supposed to read all the topics and all the crap in our Altcoins sub!
From what i understand he is in the altcoins ANN translation business and doesn't like the spam generated from google translate poster in our local forum...

@JohnUser: there is a "Report to moderator" feature, you seem to have use it... 2 times since registration, I don't know what job your are doing but maybe it would be a good start?

It is your job to read and moderate no matter if you like it or not. yes, you can say there is the report button but you should know by now it is not always used because most of the time members just don't care to report something. Sure it's good and it helps a lot when members report what they think is needed to be moderated, but you can't rely 100% on members. And just to give an example today there is someone telling he tried the report 2 times without any action taken...
Suddenly you come back from a long inactivity...
When I open a topic to ask a feedback from others about the moderation, I am not looking for a reply from you coming from nowhere and telling about the report button. I knew there is a report button, trust me

The French forum is not moderated at the level it should be, to be honest, it is the disorder. As an example, people are/were posting ICO/Altcoin translated topics as they are paid to do it. That's fine but a lot of people were just posting text translated with tools such as google. (I wonder since how many times, weeks, months...) Some of them were not even French/francophone. A French user has spent a lot of time trying to clean the place, your job... We, French citizens/francophones, are so much tired with this. To tell the truth, we prefer going to read the English threads, instead to read broken french that we hardly understand
It creates a lot of frustration between French members and we can see some of them over reacting

The Altcoin section needs to be improved, with over +800 cryptos it is taking a higher interest recently. People asked to have a separate section, in a topic all posters replied yes such needed. Who is interested to visit the altcoin section to read topic such like "what is the best campaign to join" and so on. While before people were talking mining, technic, software, hardware...
When managing a community you can't really make it "as you like" you have to think about the users as well, what they like, what they want, what could be efficient, etc. After all, it is the users together who make a community.

In my opinion, I believe this is the job of the French Moderator. To Moderate what needs to be moderated. He logs in quite often but nothing is done. He hasn't been so much active since months (his last post is from May). He may be busy in his personal life and it's normal. But another Moderator or a second is really needed to clean the place.

You should include the links to those you had mentioned for reference.

I don't know how messed up your local board now or what's going on there but it is the job of a moderator to moderate right? If he didn't do his job well then maybe someone better should be put in his place.

EDIT: What does moeration mean? Can anyone who is a forum staff or admin can define this so we can shed light to this issue?

No. As a moderator on Bitcointalk you are not required to actually do anything. You may eventually get kicked after a very long period of inactivity. However, if you stick around and handle a few reports every now and then you will stay. However, this does not mean that you shouldn't be trying your best (which is another subject).

And just to give an example today there is someone telling he tried the report 2 times without any action taken...
That's a bad example. It could be a number of reasons, for instance: 1) Report has not been handled yet. 2) Report is invalid and gets marked as bad.

The French forum is not moderated at the level it should be, to be honest, it is the disorder.
That's possible. If that is the case, you probably need more *witnesesses* and file a complaint with theymos and ask for another local moderator.
