Title: Quick Question for old schoolers
Post by: weare1984 on August 08, 2017, 09:04:07 AM
Back "in the day" (pre 2014) there were really only 2 merchants that sold precious metals for Bitcoin.  I finally remembered one of them was Agora commidities, but I can't remember the name of the other. I've recently had my home broken into and need to try and contact these companies to see if I can obtain invoices/serial numbers (I can't find a copy in my records, and I'm pretty sure they were actually still in the original boxes/packaging they came in WITH the original invoices  >:(

Anyone know if Agora is still in business? (I read somewhere they changed their name) ...  How about the other company that I fail to remember?  Are they still in operation?  I remember a few years ago one made headlines by saying they would "only accept bitcoin" (but not for like another 10 years or something like that)

Any info would be appreicated!  Thanks   :)

So I finally just figured out the other company was "Amagi metals".  Hopefully their still in business.  I guess agora changed their name to Veldt.  Hopefully it's still the same owners or the new owners have access to the old records.

If anyone knows the owners or anyone that works (or worked) at either of these places feel free to PM me their contact details, otherwise I'll try to contact the companies myself since it appears Amagi is still in business!  Thanks all!

Provident Metals is another one,  and they're still in business and they still accept bitcoin.

Amagi sucks last I checked.  Not much selection and prices weren't great.  That could've changed.

Did you end up solving this? Did you contact the companies and see what they could do about it?

I hope they catch the guy(s) who broke into your house. It isn't right to steal that which is not yours.

This information will be worthless :

1. They melt the precious metals and sell it to jewellers, who then use those metals to create jewellery that they then sell. < They use street jewellers that are not permanently employed >

2. Most of these metals are sold on the black market, so you will not trace it back to the thief. < Even if it does turn up, it would have changed hands a lot >

Claim from the insurance and go on with your life. ^sad^

That is sad news. My wholehearted sympathies are also with him in this difficult time. But stay strong and I hope he get his hands on the information he is looking for soon. Till then, no need not stress out much and think of it as a test. This time will not last forever because time never stays the same for anyone.
