Good question. I don't think so. I think that bull movements creates uptrend in all top 10 coins at the same time. But there could be couple of differences between cause of situations.

Xrp down from 24k satoshi to 4
Eth down from .15 to .07
I bought eth xrp nem steem with bitcoin all within the last 3 months. All investments are at a major loss vs bitcoin. I wish I never bought any Alts. I can't sell any now it's too big of losses.

Maybe it looks like people are removing their funds from all alts and buying btc it looks like the alt party is over they will continue to fall and btc will be rising till $5k or maybe no stop for it. I'm happy that i was able to sell most of my alts because this price fall. About long term downtrend i might agree with you on this.

Don't worry alts will surely rise no doubt about that it will only take more time don't sell in loss no matter what trust me.

No worry, first bitcoin will stop anywhere probably above $4000 then it will start to decrease and alts will start to increase. Then they all will stop and bitcoin will increase more.

Right now BTC is a runaway freight train, this means alt coins prices will tend to decline in BTC terms, but in fiat terms the value of a given coin may be stable. It depends on the specific coin. Some of them are collapsing like Stellar Lumens and Nxt. But I have noticed that some of my low market cap coins below $2M have appreciated during this ferocious BTC rally including Sumokoin, Condensate and Prototanium. Some of the ICO coins have been appreciating by 100%+ or more, certainly thats a game for the most nimble and well informed traders.

I am of the view that prestigious asset and wealth management companies like Goldman Sachs and Fidelity are starting to shepherd their clients into Bitcoin and we have growing merchant/consumer adoption of crypto in Japan and these factors help explain the powerful rally in Bitcoin we have seen. Will prices get crazier and will we see a $10,000 BTC print? I honestly don't know, but I am certainly strapped in for the ride.

In short run I agree the alts will have trouble making new all time highs so long as this trend continues. But it all likelihood BTC will pause or even retrace since trees don't grow all the way to the sky and neither does bitcoin! Once this happens alts can begin to appreciate again.

Yes,,, but this is just temporary. Bitcoin is so strong right now. It will keep getting stronger, but it must have some retreating patterns sooner or later. That will give alts time to recover a little. No cause for panic mode, and no pressure. Perhaps this will make more alts choose to get traded against other alts or USDT. Less reliance on BTC, less psychological worry.

If bitcoin gets stronger, it will affect all the market in the long term so no need to worry about current downtrend of altcoins, it will be okay in the long term.

Are top altcoins in a long term downtrend vs bitcoin?
if i do try to see my blockfolio all of my holdings are on reds which i do really suspect that the sudden bitcoin price increase do affect this kind of situation which altcoin market have been affected and the reason why we are on bearish as of now but not all altcoins in red because there are still on rising side which going with the trend together with bitcoin.

The top Alts have been declining vs bitcoin for many weeks or even months for some like ripple dash monero. Sure the odd shitcoin gets a pump but small cap coins can pump easy. Altcoins are declining vs bitcoin and it might be a long time for any of the top Alts to reach new ath's. Some might never reach an ath again vs btc

I believe the alt coins will make a comeback against BTC in the upcoming months however bitcoins strength has been enormous.

I think there will be another huge run like we saw in May, probably at the end of this year or early 2018.

I think is much more coin by coin depending that a global alt trend.

Like ETH, WAVES and NEO have a bigger chance to grow due real case usages.
BCH still may grow if somebody starts accepting it in a real life.
Other coins will be roller-coasting for speculations.

ETH okay I can believe it has more real case usages. But seriously, take away all the tokens for exchanges and ICO and you don't really have much. For me Bitcoin is still the only coin that has "real case" usage. People get paid salaries in real life with Bitcoins, people buy coffee and pizza with bitcoins, people buy books and even computers with BTC. But ETH? If there is, I don't know much about it. And WAVES and NEO? Where are their merchants?

Yes I agree with you so only possible ways for altcoins are either downtrend or sideways trend and it will last till the late Q4 of 2017 at least.

Sometimes prices are correlated to each other between bitcoin and other top altcoins in the market and they do really go on the same way but this is not happening anytime and as we can see now they do go on different way instead of increasing its price together with bitcoin they do go down instead which means we cant really fully rely on the belief that they are going the same direction. This trend will surely go until this end of the year.

In short time, really not have any altcoin can replace Bitcoin with the momentum growth like now. But after 5-10 years when the cryptocurrency world's stable, Bitcoin will have many competitor can replace it anytime if Bitcoin don't improve it's system.

I remember when the price of ETH and any popular altcoins increasing with bitcoin together, making a cryptocurrency bubble which I assume the value before is still less than now, but really a good time to remember, I've cashed out my money and still regretting tho, this damn crypto world is unpredictable.

the thing about bitcoin's competition is that so far nobody has created anything capable of competing with it. and the worst part is that i think they are not even trying anymore!

back in the early days when altcoins started coming out like LTC, NMC, XMR,... these were trying to give something different and do something worthwhile to compete.

but the new altcoins are just aiming for the profit, to become more expensive even if it means a short life. the dev and early investors become millionaires and kiss crypto goodbye! this is not a competition any of them have any remote chance...

Its hard to say. Some alts falling, but some recent alts from and for Asia like OmiseGo and Neo showing +1000% grow.

In General Bitcoin rise was always very good for cryptomarket. It means other will follow BTC some of alts sooner ,some latter.

Regretting on this damn crypto world is really a normal thing since its really an unpredictable thing and most traders or investors would really commit these common mistake. Prices is really hard to predict we wont know if we did buy or sell on the right time or not and after that when prices go in other way  we do already start regret.

Most investors who got in altcoins after the spring rise are way down vs bitcoin. I really thought Alts would bounce back after august 1. I was wrong and am paying severely for it. Should have sold all Alts in to bitcoin a months ago.
