Title: can network or cable modem speed improve your mining
Post by: btchaver on May 18, 2013, 06:25:31 AM
What is the minimum and if you had 50ghs running for example what conection speed would be neccesary and what would you need to run just 10ghs.

i have a 25mbps speed with cable modem is that fast enough and what would i need besides a good gigabit router i was told to improve my mining.

A good 'ol DSL 256k connection would be more than suffice.  Hell, I'd even say a 56k modem is capable of pulling it off.  It's not the internet speed that matters for mining, it's the hashrate per card(s).  But then of course, if your connection is wacky and you get dropped pings here and there.. that'll affect it too.

Unless you have a ton of ASICs and are maxing out your stratum difficulty shares or you have a bunch of getwork miners bandwidth is not an issue.  Ping time/latency is more important since lag to submitting shares can make then stale.
