there is no easy explanation for this, only speculation and guesses.

for starters you should know that altcoin market is treated like penny stocks [1]. and people know it is a short term big profit and not much else. with that in mind, my speculation is that whenever the big guy (being bitcoin) is performing well, traders are start to focus their attentions (their money) on bitcoin to make the most profit and leave altcoins alone.
there is also the effect of USD value of altcoins which creates some kind of sell pressure on the their value and speeds up the dumping process.

Why do altcoins price dumping. When bitcoin price pump. Is there any explanation about this?

We can't know the exact reason for this. When bitcoin is undergoing a pump, everybody is trying to get on the bitcoin train. So they sell their altcoins out to buy bitcoin. That's the reason we see dump in alts.

as bitcoin is the main currency therefore most of the people try to invest money in bitcoin and when they feel that now the price of bitcoin is increasing they widthraw all their investment from other currencies and try to invest it in bitcoin therefore when bitcoin pumps other altcoin dumps.

This type of situation happen when the investors are limited and they want to shift their money from one asset to another like nowadays the investors and withdrawing their money from altcoins and they are investing them in bitcoin as they know the price of bitcoin will now increase without any problem to them.

The alternative effect of this, when bitcoin is increasing. The price of alt coin is dumping, this is what's happening. Because alt coin holders are selling their coins and trying to recover from re-investing the profit in bitcoin so price of bitcoin increases.

This is the usual happening when btc up, alts is up. This is due to massive selling of alts and converts to fiat with their bitcoin. But if you remember last time, It happened that when bitcoin was down, alts is also in red.

Nahhh , that is the most reasonable thing to blamed ,
People choose to cutloss and move their funds from altcoin to bitcoin mostly ,
So the other people might following too and its automatically makes the market in one sided to bitcoin only ,
The trade volume produced always decrease in altcoin and increased so high in bitcoin.

My wild guess how this happened, if you are selling your altcoins most probably you will sell it to BTC ,sometimes to ETH. Everytime a trader sells its altcoin, this would push Bitcoin to rise. Thats why, everytime Bitcoin goes down, traders either sell their Bitcoins to USDT or simply buy altcoins.

no, that altcoin short rise was because they reached their bottom!
when an altcoin gets dumped very hard, the price drops fast and big, this means a good opportunity to pick up some cheap coins to sell on the recovery. some people call this a dead cat bounce. you wait for the dump to stop and price to reach the bottom and start buying that altcoin, then in about half a day or so you sell as it recovers for a nice little profit.

for example ETH had about 7-8% recovery today which i enjoyed the profit of.

So, I guess the best way to invest in cryptocurrency is to invest in bitcoin. But maybe trading altcoins is not a bad way to make a profit for now (until the bubble of altcoins burst). However, there're many ICO's.

there's too many ICO that makes us hard to decide whether on what ICO were going to invest especially if we only have minimal budget. However trading and investing maybe risky but definitely worthy.

I don't think Bitcoin alone experiences price pumping. If examined the price pumping is felt over altcoins too. Though both are almost on the similar market the pump and dump happens in different time scaling. During the recent growth of bitcoin found more altcoins in pump.

All of traders switch from investing in altcoins to be on bitcoins because bitcoin's price is up trending
so the traders choose the digital coins that has up trend than invest in the altcoins,
this strategy is good for taking profit long term investment with hold bitcoins than altcoins
basic knowledge of trading always follow the trend of price and never fight the trend.

People sell their altcoins to jump into the BTC bandwagon. Also since all altcoins trade against BTC and when BTC price is rising in FIAT, its normal for altcoins to lose value against BTC price, but is usually the same in FIAT price. FIAT is USD/EUR..

This is the correct answer.

Only a few people in altcoins are there because they really believe in the alt. Most are there as an alternative way to make bitcoin. When bitcoin rises, they cash in and convert to btc, in order to then convert to fiat.

You can take Bitcoin and Altcoin like two entities that currently share the market and maintain its balance. So when Bitcoin prices start to increase rapidly, the vast majority of people shifts their attention from Altcoins to Bitcoin and start buying btc. This is turn leads to the dump of altcoins

I also agree, altcoins get pumped or dumped relative to Bitcoin according to the overall market sentiment. Only recently, the market was expecting a possible Bitcoin split and dump and we had seen Bitcoin nose diving to well below $2000, while most altcoins were headed for the moon.

However the prompt signaling of segwit turned things around and Bitcoin became more formidable and also much more valuable. Now all eyes are on Bitcoin and a good number of altcoins are now on the receiving end.

I don't see that it's always the case. Because it all depends on desire and market conditions there, because sometimes the big players (trading) at that time was in need of many funds so altcoin they mostly sold and exchanged in the bitcoin who was in the pump. It all depends on the situation and circumstances that are happening, not because the system!!.because of the bitcoin and also altcoin is very different, they have advantages and disadvantages of each

It depends upon the market because when ever the price of Bitcoin is increasing there will be small changes happened with the altcoin. They need to be accurate according to the Bitcoin price and the value of altcoin value will decrease accordingly.

You are just looking at the price of altcoins in BTC. I would advise you to check their prices in the United States Dollar as well. In USD terms, the prices of almost all the altcoins have increased. And some of the alts have held their ground so far against the BTC, such as ETH, NEM, and NEO. I have checked the charts and I couldn't see any major crash or correction for the altcoins.

Thats true, As far as i can remember there is a time where both dumping where almost all alts where in bloody red. Though most of time base on my experienced on trading they are indirectly proportional.

They isn't much explaination to this question people are right altcoins are slow whole year but when they increase they don't stop and give a profit of 10x in few hours. Bitcoin grows all year if you conpare bitcoin doesn't fall much and till date it has increased by 200% since starting of this but eth or ripple on the other hand have increased by 2000% before falling short again. With alts you need lot of patience that's the reason people go with btc and avoid alts.

Traders would sell their altcoins to have more bitcoin in their wallet and then when they think through their technical analysis that price of bitcoin is almost or at the ceiling then they would convert to USD having more cash in hand. When the price of bitcoin drop again then they can buy more bitcoin and then shift to altcoins again buying some of it because when price of bitcoin drops, price of some altcoins shoot up so in this way traders will have more money taking advantage of the opportunity.

Usually traders sell their alt coins for Bitcoin, that is why when the alt coin being sold there will be more transaction to Bitcoin and then because you are trading alt coin / Bitcoin then when alt coin being sold it will decrease the demand and causing the price to go down, and because you are trading with Bitcoin it's mean you are buying Bitcoin with your alt coin and that caused the demand for Bitcoin to increase

if i still hold some altcoins when bitcoin price pumps, i will see how many my balance estimated in fiat. if i still get profit i will sell my alt and bitcoins that i get. well that might be 1 reason why altcoin dumps when bitcoin pumps

If altcoins were dumping you would expect the prices of these to suffer, however, as a whole the market is seeing a lot of green at the moment.

I think it's more-so people jumping back into the market who panicked leading up to the fork, which would indicate as to why there was such a poor overral performance through July.

It is simply because altcoins are reversly when bitcoins price continuous to rise and some of the altcoins were dump bevause people sell some of their holdings so they can sell their bitcoins at ATH. That is what i observe and the main use to trade almost all altcoins is in bitcoin currency.

We can't know the exact reason for this. When bitcoin is undergoing a pump, everybody is trying to get on the bitcoin train. So they sell their altcoins out to buy bitcoin. That's the reason we see dump in alts.

That can be one of the main reasons but of course there are more factors on this and sometimes these other factors can be unknown which is making some surprises to many. There were times when both Bitcoin and many alts are jumping in green so there is really no established formula on this one.

This is just showing us that cryptocurrency is a very different animal in different shades. Sometimes technical analysis can be rendered naught with Bitcoin and other coins. Cryptocurrency can be very risky if one does not have a basic understanding of its many intricacies and crannies.

This pattern that used to work well is getting less obvious. I think the more exchanges offer fiat deposit/withdrawal as well as direct trade alt/fiat pairs, the less correlation would be. Excluding cross trading an alt via bitcoin as the only way may reduce this effect.

So it's depend on supply and demand on the coin

The normal idea is this and yes it works like this with most of the altcoins. If BTC gets stable and increasing slowly then altcoins will increase according to its pumps or widespread usage. Some are targeted pumps and dumps of altcoins and its hard to find them.

Bitcoin and altcoins don't really have a solid correlation. Sometimes they tend to follow each other and the other time they become inversely proportional. When new investors invest in Bitcoin, they tend to shift to other cryptocurrencies as well. Thus, increasing the overall cryptocurrency demand and hence the price. According to me an individual currency has many internal factors that drives the price along with the external factors. Thus, concluding any relation is baseless.

Answer is simple;
Because people don't like to miss the bitcoin pump, they will quickly sell their altcoins and hold those bitcoin till there will be correction on bitcoin's price. Than they will just buy back other alts.

It is quite usual cycle and we can expect same when current pump will be over in next few weeks/days.

Why bitcoin price rise but altcoins price decline? simply because people cash out from altcoins and invest it in bitcoin due to bitcoin price seems growing faster than altcoins, even though some altcoins maybe being pumped as well and rise faster than bitcoin. Mostly because people wants to extract their profits from altcoins, let it dumped for a while before decide to buy back. After all, altcoins created to become daily trading objects in the first place, and just few people who see the usability of those coins.

This is many times correlated topic that bitcoin pump leads to altcoin dump. Actually the fact is bitcoin gets pumped because it is being invested by asking money from the altcoin and then selling it for BTC. So you see there is perfect relation that bitcoin is being pumped and altcoins are ultimately dumped that is two with twice the amount as both are being exchanged altogether. However there is also one thing that, altcoins are always strong in terms of USD value but don't know why is that so. May be there are people who invest into altcoin directly from the USD currency. Anyway as a tip we should take this as indication that how the bitcoin will behave when altcoins are being dumped on major scale. That's the strategy too.

Because many wants to be on the trend thats why they are selling their altcoins in exchange of bitcoin.
And when the rally is over they will tend to buy back their coins and hold it again for long term.
But sometimes when bitcoin dumps and so the altcoin. But whats happening right now is bitcoin pumps and altcoin dumps. This is the crypto currency flows in the market as the demand and supply are playing.

This is because of reselling of altcoins so that the value of the bitcoin will incease and the value of altcoins decrease.

The alternative effect of this, when bitcoin is increasing. The price of alt coin is dumping, this is what's happening. Because alt coin holders are selling their coins and trying to recover from re-investing the profit in bitcoin so price of bitcoin increases.

Yes, I would also prefer bitcoin. Trading is bitcoin is easy but I think it is something for newbies. It is good but at the end everyone knows bitcoin is much better than altcoin. It is right that altcoin increases its value but increasing rate of bitcoin is better than that of altcoin. And best thing about bitcoin is that it is the oldest known crypto in the world. It gives more profit than altcoin just all you have to do is build up you skills and work on the strategies through which you trade.

i think it is normal, maybe i can give some explain. bitcoin is a center of crypto currency, whatever happen with bitcoin, the altcoin will get the impact too. so if bitcoin price is increase, altcoin price will be decrease and this will happen with the other side. when we see bitcoin start to climb then we should aware and prepare but don't afraid because if altcoin down, i am sure the other time, the price will be recover like what bitcoin do.

Altcoins are the mere followers of the bitcoins. They are always observed following the footprints of their masters. The value of the coin definitely depends on the demand of a particular commodity in the market. Bitcoins demand is high but supply is low which is playing main role in the pumping of their values.

There are nuances to this. I like to think of Bitcoin as the index, and altcoins as individual stocks. When BTC is stable or bullish, individual altcoins can pump, but if BTC is bearish, altcoins tend to dump very hard.

In May/June, I wouldn't say that altcoins were the followers. Ethereum and the ICO hype was definitely leading the way. It seems now that it's BTC's turn to take the wheel.

I am a novice at this market but too at once saw that when bitcoin grows that all other altcoins fall. I see a situation so, all began to destroy the money and began to inlay in bitcoin. All see that getting up went, capitalization of bitcoin increases. It talks about that getting up followed by the increase of volume, and there will be a height and farther. Therefore all in him are inlaid and forget about other chinks.

It could be that people are selling their alts to buy bitcoins. However, alts like eth increases in value when bitcoin does. Bitcoin cash is also going strong.

And because they are the coin that is probably competiting each other so as it one of them pump they would other one dump so that is how trading works.

You will get to know all the scenarios of prices in the market if you are aware of supply and demand rule of market. Simply when the users of altcoins cash out and start to invest in bitcoins (as they see that its market value is rising) the altcoins prices falls due to low number of users( less demand) in the market.

i think it is normal, maybe i can give some explain. bitcoin is a center of crypto currency, whatever happen with bitcoin, the altcoin will get the impact too. so if bitcoin price is increase, altcoin price will be decrease and this will happen with the other side. when we see bitcoin start to climb then we should aware and prepare but don't afraid because if altcoin down, i am sure the other time, the price will be recover like what bitcoin do.
Yeah, and the impact of bitcoin on altcoin is that the price of altcoin drops sharply, this is very easy to understand. We should think simply if the price of bitcoin increases dramatically, the amount invested in bitcoin will also increase, so the question is where is the money, the answer is in altcoin, investors and traders will be dumping altcoin to pump the price of bitcoin up and make more profit. And when this situation is over, altcoin will be pumped back

Interesting topic, I've asked questions just like you in the past and I think I could answer little.
There are two ways for you to think about this (Bitcoin up -> Altcoins down or Bitcoin down -> Altcoins up):
First, you should look at the "Market Cap" of all cryptocurrency, in this point, I usually use Coinmarketcap, And you can see that:
+ If the Market Cap going up or just stable, and the price of bitcoin and others change opposite way so fast, you can think about traders (or Shark) moving their money from altcoins to Bitcoin or inverse... because there are some news that tell them Bitcoin price is going up, they should invest in BTC for their best profit, otherwise, they will dump btc value just by buying Altcoins, selling to USDT,....
+ If the Market Cap going down so bad, thats mean people are going to leave cryptocurrency just because some reason, and in this case, I think if btc price go down but altcoins go up just a temporary situation, everything will go down!

I think depends every period, a cryptocurrency will become to leader (set by whales and big boy) make the price of all cryptocurrency on market up or down. I agree with you in May-June is the time Ethereum control the price of all crypto on market, do not Bitcoin because in that time Bitcoin just stable and stand still around $2,000.

Today the price of the altcoins are increasing except ETH and other coins. I think Bitcoin is now stable at $4k because we are not seeing a big variation in BTC price from last 1 week. So this is the time for altcoins. Let's wait for few more days maybe all altcoins price will start to increase.

Bitcoin value has always been strong. And dumping and pumping is a part of trading and you ay say that it is the beauty of trading. But let me clear that bitcoin value always increase more than that of altcoins. When market changes. And altcoins value rises then at the same time bitcoin’s value raises even more. So people now have started preferring bitcoin.

We go through periods of money going into altcoins and going into bitcoin. With the price rise of BCC I also think probably many alt speculation moved into there for the time being. Its just the nature of the market since many people who are involved in alts are more speculators than long term holders.

I think it was the BTCUSD rally above $3000 that set this cycle into motion. During the initial rally, altcoins tend to suffer losses as altcoin holders exit their positions to buy back bitcoins. Now that BTC has finally gone through a correction (or the first leg of a correction), money often flows back into altcoins. Since BCH was the most hyped (being launched and added to major exchanges so recently), it naturally absorbed more of that money than many of the other markets.

There is no end to this. The pump and dump of coins will keep shifting between bitcoins and altcoins as well as the traders will also keep hanging between the two. There is no doubt that the altcoin investors do not treat their coins as long term investments whereas bitcoins’ majority of the investors are long term holders.

Perhaps you are right, but nevertheless, for most Crypto-currencies there are no such forecasts as for Bitcoin. Only for Bitcoin they say, That the price will grow very quickly and high. As already mentioned in the forecasts of experts, that Bitcoin in 2021 can reach 100,000 dollars for one Bitcoin. But if you take into account any altcoin, then not one such prospects do not. I think that this is the answer to the question posed.

yes that is right and in fact there are a lot of reason which are causing pump and dump of a currency, in fact when bitcoin price start increasing people try to invest money in bitcoin and for that they most selly their altcion which cause the dump in the price of altcoin but some time people are try to book their profit form altcoin and therefore they sell their altcoin which is also become another reason of the decreasing the price of altcoin.

Yeah, we need to understand that bitcoin and altcoin function more or less on the same platform. So we're supposed to invest based on the time scaling, capital, and the profit expectancy. Investing into bitcoin is good if it's a long term investment, whereas with altcoin its good to invest if you have a large backup to invest and withdraw in a short considering it to be a short term investment.

I agree, your trading portfolio should be around 50-60% for bitcoin and the rest altcoins like ETH or LTC is a best bet. I think for newbies, is really best to go to bitcoin instead of altcoin simply because altcoin can be manipulated easily. We have seen multiple Pump and Dump groups here so I guess you know what their functions are. I'm not saying that there are no manipulations from behind in bitcoin, but is really hard to do it now because a lot of big investors are into it and no one can total control of the number of bitcoins now. So for newbies, bitcoin is the best if you are going to ask me.

Yes today all altcoins price and Bitcoin price is falling. After few weeks again the Bitcoin price came under $4k. Yes like fire and water scenario, bitcoin and altcoin have relation. It happens due to decreasing of altcoin whenever bitcoin price increases. They have a comparison against each other so whenever one raise the other have to fall down most of cases. Bitcoins are never ever going to let altcoins surpass them.

Dump and pump, no one can understand about that. Investor or trader only can give you the usual reason, those coins always connected even sometimes their price moving to the same direction. Basically, only that reason we have and until now, become our consideration to make decision about our trading/ investment. Keep trying to understand market will always we can do but manage our money and control mindset is important. When dump just buy it and when pump let's sell it. When and how much we can trade/ invest only your experience will answer that question. Have a nice day.

Anyone who has stayed long enough in the crypto trading atmospshere will understand that this is not a new thing and the altcoin dump is not something common to all alt as there are some that will still break the odds and still increase. However, even the dumps also comes with its own window for one to buy in and invest because the downward trends is not something that will last forever.

Agree, investing in bitcoin is a good idea for you if you're considering between BTC and order kind of investments (selling stuff, houses,...) because I think the increasing trend of bitcoin was very incredible, I mean more and more people know about bitcoin, the price is bumping day by day and many things could be paid by bitcoin nowadays. Comparing the movement or volatility of bitcoin and altcoin they do really differ but its not really wise to say that we should choose alts instead of bitcoin since we do usually exchange those altcoin to bitcoin later on because this is the only way we can convert it for sure. Price pumps do really matter on adoption and dumps is when there is profit taking happening on the field.

People just switch to BTC because the profit levels are higher. Once BTC stablises in price, the alts will pump hard. This pattern has occurred over and over countless times in the past few years.

Its not always pumps and dumps that affects the relationship between bitcoins and alts and this phenomeon is not proven yet because if this were true we would have had a situation where every pump of bitcoin would reflect a dip for altcoins and to be honest this isn't a mathematical equation either because some alts have a strong community which makes them resistant to such..

When bitcoin starts pumping, then altcoin holders immediately start selling their altcoins to buy bitcoins the price of which is rapidly increasing. They don't want to miss the train and so as a result of this, altcoins price start falling.
But in the same way, when bitcoin price falls down, many bitcoin holders start selling their bitcoins to buy altcoins so that they could increase their bitcoin value as altcoin price increases.Since altcoin is valued based on bitcoin, they do this as a result, altcoins price start increasing.

The number of coins traded sometimes could still easily pumped and dumped by a single trader ,
Speaking about when bitcoin get pumped and altcoin get dumped everytime ,
It's just an adjusment to the global price of cryptocurrency i think.

This type of situation happen when the investors are limited and they want to shift their money from one asset to another like nowadays the investors and withdrawing their money from altcoins and they are investing them in bitcoin as they know the price of bitcoin will now increase without any problem to them.
There is no explanation when there is a changes in bitcoin price and altcoin price in a inversely proportional scenario. It maybe a chance for it to happen because there is a differences between the stock of Bitcoin compare to other crypto-currency which is not related to the pumping and dumping price of each other. But one thing is for sure when Bitcoin price pump altcoin will have the chance to increased it price because most of altcoin depends on Bitcoin value.

It does happen, if altcoin prices depend on bitcoin prices because the volume of coins also has an effect. But indeed the rising bitcoin price causes the altcoin price reduction to be very reasonable.

Indeed! It can’t happen by chance every time that altcoins follow the bitcoins. Bitcoins lead altcoins with proper planning and market support. Besides it is true that one big trader can easily affect the prices of coins and that is dangerous for small traders. These whales are somehow controlling the market.
