Title: Buying high - hold for long?
Post by: Holohippo on August 23, 2017, 09:58:56 PM
If lets say you were to invest when the market price is high and then you suffer the natural dips, does anyone agree that these altcoins will grow in the coming years and it would be wise to hold?

Or are alt-coins just traded for profit at this point and they are 99% useless and meaningless. Also meaning that your investment is going to disappear in x years to come?

I know this depends on the coins but lets use these as an example :

DNT
ZRX
ICN
GNT
ETH

I know "nobody knows" but lets speculate here.

There’s only a single coin in that list that you provided that will be a smarter choice to hold for a long time and that is Ethereum. The price of Ethereum is moving up and down so if you really wanted to purchase high then I would do so right now because the price of that coin will go up pretty soon if the people behind Ethereum keep doing what they’re doing.
People in other coins are positive about Ethereum and some need Ethereum to shine so their coins will stay alive, that’s the only thing that I can really see from holding the coins in that list.

In the trade there must be a price up and down, and if we leave it for a long time the possibility of coin will increase and we get profit, so let it

Consider those altcoin that already established a good volume since their commencement of operation. By looking at their passed ATH, you can tell if that is worth your pennies. Have a look at it's price history and how far it was pumped hard and some of it's established correction price.

In that way, you can see it as a coin that can considered to be good in terms of long term holding.

I think XLM is a good long term hold.  They have a strong plan that looks well into the future.

Also OMG isn't going anywhere but up.  They'll be around a long time, and growing.

I see you have all ICO's there. Those are a new kind of beast that we haven't quite seen the full out come and implementation of unlike the 2014 coins that battled mainly for the crown of being currency. Which If you look at the top 100 there are only a few survivors left... Dash, ltc, monero.... As for the ICO's Eth proved an ICO can make it but also it must be recognized that eth is a revolutionary protocol for smart contracts and most of these  ICO's coming out now are just applications to run on it. Some are set to fail some will win.

too risky to buy high a hold for long :3
but you can try ETH ..
Eth is a great alt coin by the way
you can get it now because it has estimated price
500$ at the end of the year i think
which is good for the holders.

You can't really know if the price is "high", when BTC was 700$ i was like "god, ATH, will never buy at this price", it depend on the project.
Is it good enough to go up in price ? To still exist in 1 year ? There is a lot of variables here.

It is true, we will never know a coin was up what came down in the future. But we can estimate a coin is up what down it can be seen how much the demand is on a coin. How the developer's performance keeps promoting the coin. ETH can still be an altcoin that develops in the coming year, other coins also need to be considered. That prediction can change at any time. We will never know the state of the market.
