Title: Question - Selling BTC for Moneypack. Possible to get scammed? They sent first.
Post by: polygamy on May 21, 2013, 03:05:33 AM
I sold my BTC for a Moneypack. They sent the code first.  I typed it in at my paypal account. It was processed just fine. I sent BTC. Now there is nothing to worry about ya?

The MP code can be claimed stolen, then reversed out of your account, as with all electronic payments.

Ha. We'll see I guess. $40 is water under the bridge.

Just looking to establish myself here. I've a lot of BTC to trade, but will start as small as necessary and even get scammed on little-league transactions if necessary.

BTW the gentleman that I traded with had 5 posts....

He has a newbie rapport with me...

I've just strictly done buying / selling transactions with various exchanges, primarily MtGox.  Obviously I need to go back to the drawing board if I want to land these person to person transactions.

How soon should I possibly anticipate a stolen moneypack claim?

You are generally safe with MoneyPaks if they are purchased with cash. GreenDot is not too fond of refunding people and they even tell you that on the back of the MP you buy. I think the cases of MP reversals on this forum are really low as compared to other methods. An MP has one of the best combos of convenience and security when it comes to payment methods.

It is definitely better than using PayPal or Skrill or anything of the type.

But of course, it isn't a totally hard payment system so always keep that in mind.
