Title: Student without much $$$
Post by: Mr.cryptos on August 31, 2017, 10:23:46 AM
Hey guys
So currently iv started playing with crypto about a month ago, and can afford to put around $100 a week into it. Iv made some investments into OMG, NEO, PAY, IOTA, ETC and XRP.

My question is, should i still be working my way to gaining 1 BTC first before anything? Price is so high right now and i have no idea how its possible when i can invest so little, hence why im just playing with the alt coins for now.

Any tips on what i should change? or what i should keep doing??

Thanks in advance

Keep going bro!
Crypto is best thing you should invest now
Dont care about amount. You should care how much profit you gain!

You actually chose the right path on accumulating your first btc. At $100 a week, you would need 45 weeks before you can earn the whole bitcoin, but by trading alts, it would significantly be reduced since alts are also moving pretty well alongside bitcoin. Just keep on flipping alts and you'll get your 1 btc sooner as I myself am flipping alts every now and then to produce some profits, too.

In my opinion, if you're in it for the profits, just go with what gives you bigger profit percentage increase. If you're doing fine with the alts, then why change your strategy? What I would suggest is to probably do it 50-50 though. Every week, go $50 on bitcoin and the another $50 on some alts that you believe has value in the future. Why invest straight in to BTC if you can reach the 1 BTC goal faster by investing in alts?

So the main goal is for the coins to be a massive BTC grab, but of course no one here sees a problem with that.

1 BTC is a completely arbitrary amount.  You should invest as much as is appropriate for you rather than working towards arbitrary targets.
Any tips on what i should change?
It's quite unusual for a person to continue trading shitloads of alts, most of which don't actually achieve a lot, without losing money in the end.

You can delude yourself into thinking you're a good trader just because the price of basically everything is going up at the same time, but if you really don't have much money to lose, you'll be pretty badly hurt in the next bear market.  Just stay safe.

I think your strategy should work fine. Diversifying is a good idea because we don't know which coins will perform the best going forward.

Also, investing $100 a week is good if you can do it. It's still early enough to make some profits down the road. In 10 years your investment should be worth a lot of money.

Iranus makes some good points.

Altcoins definitely can have a bigger upswing percentage wise - but the downside can be just as bad.

I like the 50/50 option that a poster mentioned above - it gives you a bit of a hedge.

Also, you'd be surprised how well you can build up your cache of altcoins for free just by becoming a contributing member of this board. Signature campaigns and airdrops are a great way to get in early and for free.

You should consider getting knowledge about blockchain and doing some work for some altcoin fundation :) If your work is high quality, you will get pay.

Hey great job investing, your way ahead of the game than most.

Don't think in terms of a single bitcoin as that goal may be hard to obtain with $100 a week. I would recommend keep dollar cost averaging and put in more if you can during the dips. The levels will slowly accumulate and you'll be able to gain way more purchasing power than you would have by just staying in dollars.

Iím going to take a different path then everyone else on this one.  I will assume, since you stated ďstudent without much $$$Ē  you may find a better use for you financial resources then these new digital currencies at this time in your life.

When I was a student, I had no funds for anything then other the needs of a college student.  I have now been an active investor for 40 years since my college years as an EE/computer science student.   I too am new to bitcoin but have years of experience with computer science, TCP/IP, databases, encryption.   Those who donít have my background have much much more work to do just to get to my starting point.

I see many benefits to bitcoin and I am also seeing things which may be roadblocks.  Is bitcoin an investment at itís current point in itís evolution,   I have to wonder about that one.

People are going to jump all over me for this comment but, here goes.   I donít see bitcoin type entities as being investments in the classical sense AT THIS TIME.   One of the first things a young adult needs to learn is the difference between investing and speculating.   I donít consider trading currencies investing, itís speculating.  Not many have the discipline to do well in currency speculation and at this time bitcoin is a long way from being a currency in daily use by the masses.

Best of luck, thinking it out carefully and get many diverse opinions.

I'm also a college student with a limited budget. I originally started with a $1,000 that I stuffed into BTC a couple months ago which luckily mooned up to 3g. I try to focus on the coins that
promise privacy and anonymity like Verge and Safex.

$100 weekly is a good investment in Crypto-Currency.

I personally would put all in BTC, doesn't matter the price, it will still increase even more on long term. If you think it's too expensive now (and it is) you can wait some weeks or few months and see if the price drops a bit with the correction, then you can buy it cheaper. But it's risky as we don't really know if the price will really drop, it can happen or not.

Anyway, Bitcoin is the most trusted currency and I think an investment on it worth more than investing in any other AltCoin like those you mentioned.

Since you have worries then stick with your current strategy and play with that for now.

You don't need to engage in bitcoin trading fow now because while doing altcoin trading, you are also benefited while bitcoin price is increasing since after all, the final judgement of your profit in altcoin trades will be transferred to bitcoin in which you will used that amount to start circulating again your hold alts.

If you think you are ready and now have guts to enter bitcoin trading, then it's your decide since you know your capacity.

Find an online job OP, you can try working for BTC on the forum, doing some translations, maybe joining a sig campaign when you level up a bit. Take part in giveaways and promotions, there's a lot of money floating around in the forum, you just need to be in the right place (thread) at the right time. It shouldn't take you more than a year to get your first BTC if you keep saving up.

A $100 every week is a reasonable amount to invest in altcoins as trading, because trading is the only way that can take you straight to your destination of earning your first bitcoin. The bigger your capital is in trading, the less time it will take. Just be careful about any coin you are trading, coz they sometimes crash really bad.

I am not condoning you should be doing this to begin with, seeing as you are very new, but there are only a few ways you can quickly get from a few hundred dollars to 1btc, all of which are basically gambling and risky. If you choose to try this, don't whine if you lose everything.

You could easily use a bitcoin futures exchange and margin anywhere from 3x to 100x depending where you go. 100x will take your $100, turn it into $10,000 on the exchange, and trade it like normal fiat/btc. Whatever profits you make you keep, but if you go negative past $100, you lose it all permanently. Another way is to straight up gamble the bitcoin on a bitcoin gambling website.

DO NOT USE THESE METHODS IF YOU ARE NOT OK WITH LOSING THAT MONEY!!!

As many have already commented I'd suggest going 50/50, see bitcoin as a secure long term investment and alt coins as risky short investments.
You need to stablish exits; for example If given alt-coin has given me more than 110% profitability, then I sell as soon as the price drops (exit on 100% profitability).

Of course I've regret on selling several coins that went up 600-700% but is a secure way of duplicating my money.

This is much good idea better to 50/50 if you really don't want to lose the benefits you can get in bitcoin better to invest too in bitcoin while you are trading with other altcoin.. so that you can get benefits of the price increase just what happen today the price was increase again that i think you can make more profit if you both trading.
For me honestly  i just put my invest in bitcoin 70% and only 30% in cryptocurrency because there are sometimes  that altcoin increase more high than bitcoin and altcoin is really cheap than bitcoin if you started with altcoin .

In my opinion investing into alts is risky if you don't know what you are doing.

That being said, you could be smart about it, some alts have really went up recently.

I think things like Steem, ETH, and things like that will move up in the next coming months.

That should be an easy trade.

I like the ideas mentioned above not putting all money into BTC, I'd buy some top alts as well (like 30-40% BTC, 10-20% ETH, LTC,XEM etc) and try to spec with top100 alts and not buy 777th coin I don't really know anything about. I've seen satoshi.pie folio, it gave me an example.

It's safer to have bigger portions in stable coins like BTC and ETH, because when the market corrects altcoins will be free falling while those stable coins would survive better.

You should not dream of 1 btc because 1 btc is nearly a penny when get high up rank you will earn more than you can imagine just by working hard and stuff you should earn atleast 150$+ a week if you are a hero member ofcourse being a hero member is no easy it takes more than a year to make that bet you should probably set your goal on making a hero member yourself

Honestly? I want to earn BTC and store them in a cold wallet for a few years as the value increases but for steady and incremental savings that adds up I've been personally investing in VIVA: VIVA Crown, their Treasury Rights (VTR), the Investment Pool (VIP) and TQS.

Fees generated from transactions on Tradeqwik are paid back into their ecosystem so TQS gets daily dividends paid out weekly and VTRs convert and sink into the built in retirement pool every 90 days.  It's kind of a long read but you should check out their whitepapers https://s3.amazonaws.com/vivacoin/viva-white-paper-v-2-1.pdf

I am happy to see you here and I assumed that you are still young...young people have much better chance to really benefit that much with cryptocurrency. The time to get started with the revolution called Bitcoin is always now not tomorrow.

Ok, back to your concern. Yes, Bitcoin is now valued high and for a student like you (though I know you also have your money) it can become prohibitive if your goal is having 1 BTC...so don't fret too much on that goal..rather take your time and buy what you can afford from time to time.

It is also good to be involved with altcoins...and in fact if you have time you can participate in many bounty programs of those which are still in the pre-ICO or even in ICO stage. Good luck to you and I know that soon you can be one of the many who made it big in cryptocurrency...this world belongs to you and your fellow young people.

The basis is to start small. From the small ranks, there is way to participate in airdrop, newsletter campaigns and all that.

Developing a Jr. Member does not take so long. In short, start already rather than find out what might match your laxity to do. Everything does not necessarily fall into the pocket easily.

Learn, and that's it.

Well, one can say not looking for easy ways, try and try, you do the right thing right away that you just sit down for a few coins, but it will not give you a profit here and now but the percentage will increase. The main thing is not to panic and keep the average values of value, look through the year you will enrich.

Having a full BTC is pointless. There are no benefits besides saying "I have a full one!" It's good to diversify. Whatever your budget is, spread it out. Learn the technology, find your favorites, invest.

...

Iīd argue that the downside can not only be just as bad - it can be much worse than with Bitcoin.
Most altcoins have tiny trading volume and can therefore drop 70-90 % in a single day if some
large whale decides to dump his holdings of the respective altcoin.

Bitcoin is much safer in this regard because of the high daily trading volume. As a rule of thumb
you can say that the downside risk of a crypto investment increases substantially if the respective
altcoin has a low daily trading volume.

My question is, should i still be working my way to gaining 1 BTC first before anything? Price is so high right now and i have no idea how its possible when i can invest so little, hence why im just playing with the alt coins for now.

Any tips on what i should change? or what i should keep doing??

Thanks in advance
As far as investing itself goes.

You have stashes in most of the leading coins so losing money is less likely. Personally I would keep 50 to 60% in "high security" cryptos like Bitcoin, Monero, Ethereum (not classic) or similar ones, and put the remaining 40 to 50% into very young low market cap coins with great potential. Split this up among 2 to 5 coins or assets and do a lot of research. Look for projects that aren't too difficult to implement, have a solid team and offer some incentive to holding the coin (the coin should be useful for something). This way you will most likely at least keep your invested money even if all "risky" investments fail, and in any realistic scenario you will make much more money than by just buying the already popular big coins. With the small amounts of money that you're investing I wouldn't really give a shit about losing some in exchange for outrageous ROIs either, which is why I'm proposing this way.

Once you reach a substantial amount of capital that you wish to preserve you can think about moving more into Bitcoin and even Stocks or other low volatility assets.

Depending on your situation you may or may not want to consider student loans. There are some countries that offer extremely cheap subsidized credit.

There are some points to watch out for. First, make sure you calculate the amount of debt that this approach would accumulate and make sure you will not regret it if all your invested money disappeared one day. Then make sure that you are studying in a field with high job security (e.g. Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data).
Basically, with loaning to invest you want to make sure that you will absolutely not run into any problems even in the worst case scenario of losing all the borrowed money. Depending on your situation you could take a small or a big loan, or none at all. That's up to you to decide and don't listen to anyone else about this issue because they have no fucking clue what works for your situation.

Good luck.

Keep going bro!
Crypto is best thing you should invest now
Dont care about amount. You should care how much profit you gain!

"Buy as much as you can, you can not lose!!!"

2 weeks later, it's down 20%

This guy nailed the $4900 top to the day.
I hope the kid did not lose 20% in under 2 weeks.

It is okay if you keep up with your Altcoins  if you don't have enough to invest huge into bitcoin. Investing into altcoin now is okay, cause as time goes on their price will speculate then you can sell to convert into bitcoin.

same here. i dont have much money to buy 1 bitcoin so i decide to buy some alt-coin to roll in a week to get some profits. aside of that i am working here at our forum being a participant on signature campaigns to collect/earn/have bitcoin. so on that way maybe someday i will have 1 bitcoin to roll over to some alt-coins in the market to get much more profits.

Why not to find opportunity through new ICO??? I think you should organize your portfolio first if you want to earn much money
Learn, patient, opportunities, together it will make success, ICO is good like waves or other types which are going up nowadays.

Do not be sad or frustated if you do not have money. I pay my school and my family bills from online job that I do. I was so happy because back then, I was only 15 years old. I started making money at that age because I know that my mother cannot pay my school bills anymore. And I continue working on my job when I graduated and I can make more money than any employed people who graduated from their school.

With $100 per week which is $400 per month, it is good to buy $200 Bitcoin and $200 altcoins.

Why not find the faucet to look for the free sts you will earn a small amount of capital so that you can use that capital to find the next new profit will be very difficult but it will help. New people do not have the capital  ;D ;D

I would personally put everything into Bitcoins. It's the safest. Bitcoin crashes usually mean altcoin crashes, but not the other way around. Diversifying does not translate well into crypto in my opinion.

You are on the right track. Set goals for earning $ 20 a day.You can reach your goals in the next 3 months. That's why you have to work hard. You need the right plan also. It is most important for you because a proper plan can bring you success.

Ye that's the best way to get some extra money. I think he should do that too. Bitcoins could get him some extra dollars.
