So - just wanted to get some advice as to which are some coins you believe have good short term investment value?  

Feel free to include any upcoming ICOs as well! :) (which have good backers/tech etc - I know there are tons of fly-by-night operators out there)

Looking to invest around $1000 but I am a creature of research and homework - so just looking for suggestions/guidance.

For ICO- EOS, ICON, Synchrolife, IMMLA, Minexcoin, Grid+, DDF, KICKICO, HERO, BOSCOIN, BANCOR, Bitconnect, MobileGO, Plasma, Ucash, Dether.

Now there are many coins is stay good position.But my suggest you can invest for NXT,Waves,Monero,Mgo and ETH you get huge profit from this coin investment.

I woud suggest you to buy Waves and Neo. Waves because the price has not spiked like many other altcoins. And Neo because it has dropped so much from ATH that i think it is a very good entry point, i added more Neo myself.

if ico not short term, because in ico selling minimum need one month
shortem coin, you can invest and buy ETH

How about NEO, OMG and TENX (PAY)?

For ICO. People usually invest for long term. For short term. With only 1000$. How many profit you need. 20% or 100%

I think for shortterm is right now EXP a good coin.

One big company would like to Invest 25 Mio. in this coin.

I think best candidates for short term gains are binance and adex as they keep getting speculated all the time. if you could by from daily or weekly dip you can exit around peak and repeat and repeat. that's it. easy.

When the pre ico 50% token is sold out, 3 more days ico will begin.

Ico for short term are rare to find out nowadays. Read about the project understand it according to their roadmaps you can hold it for mid to long term

Root ico is not good as centra project with a lot of people already invested to see the growth another card project based on the ethereum after the tenx and mnaco project. This don't make sense because the pre-sale just sold out until 50% and not all of the pre-sale already sold out and i think the root will raise a little money in its ico.

The true ICo with a promising project are often interesting in the medium term !

But I think KickIco seems to be a good investment !

At the moment there are a lot of coins for investing, nowhere will you lose and will always be in the winning, but I would advise Monero, BOSCOIN, Ucash.

Development is very active and over half the supply is currently staking off market. You can see that there is not much resistance on the sell side, so very small buying activity should push Rads up significantly.
