Title: 5 different cards mining
Post by: azher91 on September 01, 2017, 09:32:40 AM
I had an old mobo lying around , Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 with 5 PCIE slots,

http://cdn2.alphr.com/sites/alphr/files/styles/16x9_540/public/images/dir_56/it_photo_28074.jpg

my previous qs was if i can use something like a splitter to connect a 6th gpu
but then no one had an answer as it could be a hit or a miss so now i have decided to go with 2 GTX 1060 6gb, which i have ordered already and 3 GTX 1070 8gb,

with 5 pcie slots, everything should be fine right? is there any thing i should be worried before i order the 3 1070,

Also i would like to know how much PSU power i would require, i currently own a 600w for 2 of my gtx 1060, now how much should i increase for the 3 1070, i will be connecting a second psu, so please tell me i should get a 750w or an 850?

thank you for all the help

Motherboards don't always support using all the PCI-E slots for GPU's. Worse case you spend ~$175 buying a motherboard known to work, CPU and ram. I would go with the 850 W PSU for the overhead. EVGA G2 or P2 is a very good choice. The price diffrence between the 750 W and the 850 W is not that much and the PSU will run more efficiently at less of a load than the max output.

Its an i7 mobo and ill take my chances of making it work, if it doesnt, ill still order another mobo, yes i was thinking of 850w too, that supports the same configuration.

If the mobo supports it, having different gpus on the same mobo isn't a big deal, i would be safe and buy the 850w but if you're not overclocking the 750w will be fine too. my gtx 1070 (power limited to 70%) uses 115w from the miner software, so probably maximum of 150w from the wall.

How do i make sure that it does support, what more proof do i need rather than seeing 5 pcie slots on the mobo  ???

Also do you have an heating issue, what do you think about these

what sort of hashrate will they give me on ether? thanks

No problems with mixing gpus. There are also many mixed nvidia/amd rigs working normally. As said in other posts the problem could come from the mobo.

Hmm i am a bit confused now, if i just order a new mobo and order 4 1060's, wouldn't that be better? or u would suggest getting 3 1070's?

I can afford 4 1060's or 3 1070's

also if incase i just  go ahead with the 1060's, it will be total of 6 1060's, i already have a 600w psu, should i still go for 850w or 750w gold rated

It depends, are you going to expand your rig further? if you are then the 1070s are better because they give more performancr per card, if not then yeah the 1060 is a good cheap card, the 1070 is better on alot of algorithms too, it all depends on the price, if the 1060 costs less than 250$ and the 1070 costs more than 400$ then i'd go with the 1060s.

Also you can't have proof about your mobo, just trying mostly, and about the heat, most cards on my open air rig dont go past 65 and i live in a pretty hot country

I am getting 1060's for 270 right now, and 1070 for 470 so iam going to go for 1060, thats like 5 1060s for 3 1070s so im gonna go for 1060, now my main concern is the PSU, ill run through a dual psu, already own a 600w, which one should i go for, 750w?

Yeah that would be fine, the 1060 can run on less than 90w i think, a 750w would take 4 or more of them, it can take alot but won't have the connections for it most probably

i am thinking of just getting 1200w Server PSU, they are cheaper and more efficent!
