Title: Recommendations on an altcoin to support a gaming site?
Post by: LuckyNZ on September 04, 2017, 08:57:00 AM
Hi guys! Years ago for a bit of fun I built and ran a small Dogecoin gaming site. Much like the coin itself the point of it all was more for me getting to know the altcoin concepts than being some casino mogul.

Revisiting the idea lately I've become interested in starting again, with new games and less dogecoin.

However there's more altcoins than ever before and they all seem to promise the world. Which to go with has become a massive question.

What altcoin woud you suggest me to use, if i wanted to setup an entertainment focused gaming site? There seems to be a number of casino/gaming focused coins, but they all seem premined!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!! Preferably, there's a coin I can mine a small amount of to use during testing, but it's not a deal breaker.

Looking forward to your suggestions

I think Ethereum is the best solution for this as its the most popular one. There are couple of game/and or casino oriented coins. You can look them for something fitting: examples: edgeless, gilgames, skincoin etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. ETH seems to offer a lot that I don't quite understand (contracts?)

If I were to go with ETH, would it be expected that the site be run via the ETH Dapp system? Optimally I'd use a coin that runs simply on a bitcoind style wallet on the server that I interact with. Would ETH require more work there? Interfacing with it's contracts, or could I ignore them completely?

I'd stick with Doge if I were you.

With gambling, people find it easier to play with a coin they don't mind losing. And because Doge is fun and inflationary, there is no harm losing.

People who own bitcoin and ethereum tend to hoard the coins because they think the dollar value will climb - and therefore might not be willing to risk gambling with them.

That's a really good point alyssa85. The current trend of 'invest in crypto' has no doubt had an effect on the crypto spending market.

Preferably, I'd use a currency that's a little more 'backed' than doge seems to be.

Are there any gaming focused coins that are not heavily premined or heavily ICO'd?

talk to the guys over at Tap Project, they are launching an ERC-20 token and probably would not mind talking to you about it.
