The Chinese government banned ICOs. Naturally as a result, alt coins started dropping. People are fearful they won't be able to get their money out with the government cracking down.

For the next couple of days I think it will blow over and go back up, but only time will tell.

this may be the beginning of the end of cryptocurrency? because i think that other governments can take this as an example with all this repercussions...and let's be honest ... wich powerful government does not want to have full control over money?

Yes. Crypto is dead. Sell everything.

In all seriousness though, I think today's move was just a long overdue correction and had nothing to do with the Chinese government's statement regarding ICOs. Let's not forget we just touched a new ATH after a few days of hesitant floating between USD 4k,- und USD 4.5k,- so naturally the market needs to cool down a bit. The alts followed suit, because that's what they usually do when Bitcoin drops.

This does not surprise me. The Chinese government have the power to influence the cryptocurrency market and that is a fact(Look at NEO). I feel sad for the people who bought a ton of altcoins right now since this is a very bad time to buy. Buying and HODling is still the best strategy though, according to me.

This. When Bitcoin drops, all coins drop and vice versa. It has always been like this.

Thought this thread might tie into the discussion since it appears China is not as big a factor as people make out.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2146048.0

Quote
The Bitcoin price and value continue to rise and this week has seen Bitcoin drive past the $5000 level, a new all time high. Interesting to note that Japan leads the current 24-hour ranking.

Quote
#1 Japanese Yen – 54.54%
#2 U.S. Dollar – 26.64%
#3 Chinese Yuan – 8.23%
#4 South Korean Won – 6.11%
#5 Euro – 3.01%

In 2016, reporting showed that most of the trading was coming from China, however, since the People’s Bank of China imposed strict regulations on the crypto exchanges in the country, the percentage of traded volume using the Yuan dropped significantly. In contrast to China, the Government of Japan passed a law legalizing Bitcoin as a payment system. Bitcoin adoption in the country has rapidly escalated as the merchant, consumer, institutions have embraced this bold move.
=

Found that interesting because China always gets the first look at any reason the price is moving up or down.

Chinese government has not banned all the cryptos, so it's not the reason for the fall, it's a consolidation, it is usually happens after ATHs. Chinese government also mentioned that they ban certain ICOs, but NEO will be OK for the regulation, so not to worry. Despite of this, NEO is also down with the other alts, but for the future, it could be a sign, that they prefer NEO coin before others/bitcoin.

This is normal, because china banned ico, and causes bitcoin and altcoin prices to go down, but this is only temporary and will be back as soon as possible ,, if you are stuck in altcoin it is better to hold, it is better and do not take loss

This is the fundamental explanation, sure. But it's just like when news teams try to explain every rise or drop of a stock price with fundamental news. Sometimes the answers are more technical and related to supply and demand. We hit a major psychological resistance ($5000), and it's entirely possible that supply began to outweigh demand.

The FUD around the Chinese ban on ICOs may have catalyzed another leg down last night. But many technical analysts will tell you that this leg down was going to come either way.

Bitcoin current price is still on its High (though it drops significant percentage today). It is only normal that market will react when there is negative news considering China is a big market but for me this may not take longer.  once market absorb the issue it will slowly  going back to its uptrend mark.

i suspect last night's lows in the $4,000s was a major bottom. it's possible we are entering another corrective phase, but i'm pretty confident that we will at least test the $4,500-4,700 area before then. We could just as easily continue the uptrend and conquer $5,000 as well.

or the market was looking for a reason to dump. when i compare the chinese and western charts, it's not totally clear to me that this was triggered by chinese investors/traders per se. it was also the expectation of a drop by western traders.

Well that is due to the ICO market being banned in China. But I don't think people should panic and start selling their coins. Its gonna be better to hold still first and keeo your coins and observe what will hapoen for the mean time.

I'm not sure about altcoins and tokens -- that's a whole other mess. But regarding Bitcoin, I think last night's lows will be it for a while (maybe another retest of the bottom is in order, though). It doesn't seem like this news has all that much bearing on BTC. There was some FUD about the PBOC banning BTCCNY exchange, but I think that's been cleared up and is not the case.

There could be an argument made that money coming into ICOs via BTC were pumping up the whole market, and now that the reverse might occur, that the BTC market could deflate. But it's not even the case anymore (even in Chinese markets) that BTC is required to access ICOs; ETH/fiat markets are very liquid at this point. So I don't think it's a major factor.

And some big whales are the Chinese people.
They banned the ICO in their country as they see it as a threat in their country and mostly of the ICO's are scam.
They warned their people about this fraud like this is a unauthorized huge fund raising.
And now the existing ICO needed to refund the money of the investors.
But I think nothing to rattle, price will be fine again this week and the price is not so bothering like we're used to this right? Don't be too affected to this and just trust our coins.

there is no valid reason that because of the banning the sudden drop happens. Chinese already did it a few months ago and still the crypto remains to sore high and higher than before.

yes maybe that news is one of many reason altcoin was fallen and it just makes people panic selling although I am sure that there is another reason that makes altcoin price decrease like now. but if its because of the ico scamming people, I think not all ico is bad because I am sure that there is many ico which will give benefits for investors.

it all happens because china prohibits ICO, all the price so decreases because china has high strength in the crypto part. it usually happens on a few bourses and will come back some time later

“ICOs are vulnerable to money laundering and terrorist financing risks due to the anonymous nature of the transactions, and the ease with which large sums of monies may be raised in a short period of time,”
Money laundering and terrorist financing i do not think ICO affects both the reason is not very clear I think.

I think this happens because of the issue of china that prohibits all ICO activities in the country, but don't have to worry if you have this capital a good time to buy altcoin and of course this is at risk, do a good analysis before you make a decision invest your capital which would hope benefit.  ;D

One way to look at it is the we are being presented with an opportunity to buy at discounted prices. We all know that this is a temporary thing and we still have another 4 months for another rally to push the price past $5,000 again and even higher.

people keep saying it is Chinese government banning ICOs but the fact is that it has small effect. the real effect was always because of bitcoin.
a correction was started in bitcoin and the panic sell followed and since it became big all the altcoins got dumped.

it has always been like this and it will also always be like this:
when bitcoin goes down, altcoins go down even more

it is normal that all cryptocurrency price are dropped, no need to panic because some of big whale are stayput on their chair waiting for this moment to buy some and hold.

other says its because of chinese government who banned ICO but i think it is not the reason's why. maybe it has a effect but not too much or totally the reason,  like i said it is normal to all alt-coins to drop.

Almost All Cryptocurrency have fallen The common fact is,
China Govt. bans all ICOs & Digital Coin that launches as public financing but without any illegal Info.
That's why Alternative coins started dropping down.
I am completely agreed with this decision.
I think This decision was taken because Now a days most of ICO's are launched without any proper info & most of them are fake.
This will help reduce the scam, Now only real Alt can sustain on Market.

We all know that cryptocurrency is a volatile market so something like this happening is not that new and because of bitcoin is in its corrective phase, other altcoins followed suit cause many are panic selling and maybe will get out totally to cryptocurrency or would just wait till price is going back up again. We can observe that price is still going down today and we don't know where is the bottom to this but of course there are speculations of where it is so for others who can take this fall, they will hodl and for others who panic, they get out. I think during this time, this is a test of who really can take the appetite of being involved in cryptocurrencies.

The idea is that veteran traders took profit when price is in ATH or almost high and then others followed suit and since it made the price go down, others panic sell and push the price down further. The announcement of China banning ICOs affect some altcoins thus it goes down as well and eventually almost all altcoins are down.

People who rely on income from bitcoin with minimal funds will choose panic and sell it, this will enter the transition period and could be more than three months, I regret this, but this dynamic will always be there, if we wiser then better do not be pushed more panicked because there is still whales that anytime can raise prices again.

Don't worry about it. That's how the market works sometimes the prices pumps and sometimes the price dumps (like happening right now) but all i know for sure is that it will recover soon after a big loss, when i first go into trading i'm panicking because of what happened but right now i'm calm and have patience.

Yes almost all of cryptocurrencies have fallen. Some says that it is just a price correction while other people say that it is because the whales are manipulating the market. For me, it is just a common scenario. Cryptomarket is super volatile. We should not always expect a steady increase. There will always be ups and downs.

It is all about the announcement of China that they banned ICO and it affects the market since most of the investors and whale holders of bitcoin are from China so it is understandable that the market right now is falling but we need to calm and think positive because the market will have a bounce back once the issue is fixed.

I read in an article that the Chinese Government closed the ICOs. That's why the price of bitcoins and altcoins have fallen. And even the rise in the price of bitcoins was halted. Now let's market the rest and rise again. And for all it's bought at high prices. Just hold and wait because you're losing money when you sell it now,
The government is really the same as seeing that development will overtake you because they have nothing to do with it.

This whole mess can lead to the total death of Bitcoin and all the cryptocurrency market. The Chinese government is all powerful and soon they will also influence the USA government to call ICOs as illegal and the use of Bitcoin will be regulated to the max. Now, I am just kidding. But if you think that things are getting serious (like in an emergency ward something like a 50-50 case) then get your money from the coins you invested and then run as fast as you can!

Good, I say let people dump to 1 satoshi.  So we can buy some cheap coins and make easy bitcoins.  China bans bitcoin is a meme now, because It has happened so often.  And ICOs were scams to begin with.  We had premine, people didnt like so much, but it was okay for some projects.  Then we had no premine, but instamine, people didnt like at all.  Then they re-vived dead coins after accumulating, but that was a lot of work for the scammers.  Then they did ICOs, which is basically a big premine, only they get paid in bitcoin or ether.  scammers laughing all the way to the bank.

I think there are a lot of factors here, since bitcoin cannot be regulated, what the powerful nations did. is to hoard bitcoin for their own, russia and china have powerful miners, both governments are keeping bitcoins for themselves and not giving it out to their residences and banning ICOs, I think this a plan for both superpower to overthrow their western counterparts. I think both of them are studying different arts of war, we still need to check on geopolitics here, we need to remember that bitcoin is decentralized, everyone could have bitcoin if they wanted to, and the governments know their fiat system might collapse, so you need to hoard, if cryptocurrencies have fallen no one would even dare to buy it back, but if you see that cryptocurrency will soon replace fiat, you take hold of it, giveing you power over cryptocurrency, and that's what is happening today, the price might go down around 4000 usd to 4500 usd in the coming days, but bitcoin is bitcoin, and no country can regulate bitcoin, since everyone had the right to access it, but it will be regulated once it is depleted, that' why superpower countries are investing a lot on bitcoins right now. I think we should still be very cautious on whatever will happen, there is still the threat of nokor and japan, both countries might g to war, and it can mean bad business for the rest of us.

If the price goes below $4,000, many would surely grab the opportunity to buy at lower prices, knowing that at some point, the price is going to recover again. This is just a temporary pullback that shouldn’t concern those who are in it for the long term. The news about the banning of ICOs in China might have played a part in this drop in price but the overall sentiment for bitcoin is still positive.

What I am thinking now is what the solution is after this ban occurs, usually japan always answer negative news from china and apply the opposite in their own country.

I wish there were two possible things to do:
- the Chinese government made corrections and made strict rules about ICO.
- the emergence of good news to cover the current level of panic.

there is no doubt that China is a sizable investor for every existing ICO, should the Chinese government realize this potential and package it in a positive regulation.

Haven't seen anything which made the value of BTC go down by almost $1000 after the recent all time high of $5000 that it reached. The Chinese, Korean and private Russian investors are almost completely forbidden from contributing to ICOs and this move is resulting in absolute chaos in the crypto marketplace.
IMO, this would only be affecting altcoins which are undergoing ICO stage and the big players like Bitcoin and Ethereum will be back on track in a few days.

This could indeed be attributed to the China's ICO ban.
But if you would ask me if am I worried about it?
My answer would be NO...
For me it is only normal for the prices to go low, since Chinese citizens who owns coins would tend to sell all of their holdings.
Which then led to the price going low: Law of Demand and Supply.
I know this may already seem to be a problem.
But soon the market would again be stable since the dumped coins would then circulate to a greater number of people.
:D

The sudden rise of all coins this year is a bubble, almost all coins are scams, especially ICOs. When in a state of bubble, small bad news tend to push prices down due to idiot speculators panicking. The idiots will depart and the wise will remain.

For several days now, most of the Crypto currency have fallen sharply in price, and for no apparent reason. Apparently, after a long period of growth, the exchange rate adjustment is normal and after a while the increase in their rate will resume. To such jumps, the crypto currency in the price should be treated calmly, given the large volatility of the crypto currency by its nature.

Yes almost all cryptocurrency is going down this day maybe it's effect from china banned ICO, but it's great moment too, to hold some altcoin at low prices if you want.
I just hope it's not the end of cryptocurrency

If you remember properly, the big slide in 2013 December was caused by rumors from China about a possible Bitcoin ban. The prices slid from $1,230 per coin in 2013 to almost $200 per coin in 2016. I just hope that this time it is not going to repeat. Are we prepared for an 80% decline in the exchange rates? I really doubt that we are.

I think it's because of the regulations issued by the Chinese government. they decided to stop and ban any existing ICO activities. china plays an important role in the world of cryptocurrency, so if china to issue such a regulation, would have a huge impact.

I don't know whether others are prepared for this decline but I myself have no issue with it. I was expecting the dip to occur, lately so the reduction in values has not surprised me. Also, when we will recover from this situation, the number of users will be even greater.

The Chinese government banned ICOs. Naturally as a result, alt coins started dropping. People are fearful they won't be able to get their money out with the government cracking down.

For the next couple of days I think it will blow over and go back up, but only time will tell.

I agree with you that if one industrialized / developed country have fallen the ICO everything will in account will also fall. But it does not mean that bitcoin is fail and will be stable as falling down in a London Bridge, I know maybe time will only tell when will bitcoin will rise and gets stable and up again.

Altcoins bave been through this kind of situations - there's a point where altcoin price drop drastically, and then go up the other day. One reason about it is explained by the law of supply and demand. When people don't sell their altcoin, the price of that certain altcoin will probably stable. Once that a number of holders sell their coins  but only few buyers buy (meaning, there's a huge amount of supply), the tendency is the price of that altcoin will go down. But if most people hold on their altcoins and a lot of people are looking to buy (meaning, there's a high demand), then the price would probably go up. Remember that this is just one case of why altcoin price is changing. There's a lot of possible reasons for that, but this is the basic in the world of economics.

I agree with you. It is not scary to see a falling price in the market because it is like a huge discount for the coins that we are watching and we can grab that chance to buy a lot of cheaper coins than before and generate some income if we will have another increase on the price like what is happening now in bitcoin and other altcoins.

Ah yes. This is actually good news!™

While I generally find it very positive that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies start to find their place in the legal frameworks of the world, not every regulatory attempt may be as sane and benign as Japan's. I doubt that the USA, Russia or China will try to kill off Bitcoin any time soon, but politics can be fickle if you're on the wrong side of whatever is currently being lobbied.

Seriously? The beginning of the end of cryptocurrency just because of a decision made by a country on ICOs? Guess you are just kidding. Wonder why people bother too much about rise and fall of all digital currencies at the same time, it is not new. Anything can cause it just like a normal forex market. The high volatility level is just the difference between the two.

Any negative news about bitcoins and altcoins would affect most of the time the prices or value of these coins. And that's something normal in the world of cryptocurrencies. But it does go back up after a while, it can't go down forever.

I'll tell you what happened. This fall is similar to the fall that happened between 11 June and 15 July this year when the bitcoin was 3000 USD. Now the bitcoin price has attained the value of 5000 USD (on September 1st), it will continue to fall until 3800-4000 USD. Then it will start to grow again until 7000 USD.

You can tell this from the bitcoin/USD chart from investing.com
 https://www.investing.com/currencies/btc-usd-chart

Look at this chart at 1 Day, place on it the Bolinger Bands and the Stochastic, you will see that the bitcoin price is under the average value of 4400 USD. It will continue to fall until 3800-4000 when the stochastic will start to go up. At that moment my advice for you is to BUY.

Sep 08 been a higher low than Sep 05 and that has been higher than Aug 22, this support line started at Aug 05 so beeing on a rather short timescale. A longer lasting line would catch today's level merely at end of November again, leaving space downwards still.
Trend since mid sommer: Bullish, but not on rocketfuel.

The cryptocurrencies are all connected. They can be traided against each other without having to use fiat money in between.
So when some news occure, either good or bad, that have to do something with the exchanges, all cryptocurrencies will react in a similar way on that news.
The unfortunate thing is that the news that occure at the moment are mostly negative.
Fake or not, just the possibility of disrupting the exchangeability between cryptocurrencies makes one groupe of people tremble a lot: the traders.

A rising tide raises all boats and the one sure thing to rely on to see things normal again would be for Bitcoin to stamp its feet on the ground and all its descendants would be rescued. I am wary of Altcoins and especially these days, they seem just about to drop real hard something worthy of doing is to liquidate holdings in altcoins and possibly buy again at low prices if need be.

This is due to the fact that the Chinese have banned the ICOs and the fake news circulating that the Chinese have also banned some exchanges in the country as well which turn out to be false news which am sure was engineered to bring down the value. But the currency is rise again since it's not cryptos specifically that was banned by the way, these ICOs sells tokens which the government deems fraudulent.

I don’t think so. Because as we all see that the people are investing in high volume, so how can it be said that almost all the cryptocurrency have fallen. May be other cryptocurrency have fallen due to non-investment and no popularity and not welcomed all over the world, but in case of bitcoin this statement is totally false and there is nothing to accept in this statement. China’s central bank has enforced ban on ICO so there can be a decline in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for short term. This is also another chance for people to buy coins, for me it looks like buying phase now but I have no enough money to buy coins. Bitcoin has met many such incidents like this but serves the head of crypto world till now, so we can expect a good price hit in future.

It has occurred as a result of china banning ICOs.As a result of it,chinese started to sell their crypto holdings which created a huge price fall in bitcoin from ATH price of $5000 to nearly 20%low resulting in $4000.But since there is still a huge buy wall, bitcoin price is recovering and its price is now $4161.As the result of china banning ICOs,altcoins price also started to decrease. Also, the FUD added fuel to the fire. But as far as bitcoin is concerned,it is not totally dependent on china's decisions any more.It has investors world wide. But for other crypto currencies,we would have to just wait and see the situation.

Mate really, I am now very much done with this thing. Bitcoins prices have nothing to do with the banning of ICOs by Tthe Chinese government so there is no need to create a fuss out of this because it is spreading fear in people. 80 percent of bitcoins trading is held in China. China supports not only bitcoins but the other crypto currencies also. The downfall in price is not a consequence of that political move. It was happening even before this news.

Yes I agree with you that the dumping of coins is a good way to buy more for the traders. Dumping is a normal move in the market so don't be panic because their are traders who are waiting for the dump of the coin while the others are panicking to sell their holdings to avoid big losses.

Basically the people who are fear due to price of digital coins (bitcoins and another altcoins) down, they can not control the psychology of trading, maybe they know about analisys technical and any other about trading activity but they didn't know about their psychology especially the emotions in trading due to psychology of trading is something different with analisys on trading and there are no many source of information about psychology trading.
This is a little bit past psychology and what have you! What is fact, is that China holds very significant amount of Bitcoin and other major altcoins  and if the policies of their government are now bending their hands and invariably compelling them to sell-off, what did your Econ(101) say about excess supply in a market? Presently the price of Bitcoin have breached the $3000 price level and we can now start to see huge demand and subsequent bullish pressure that would likely take price up again.

I saw today that the price dropped to almost all the cryptocurrency available on the market. does anyone know something about this topic? what to expect next days ?
Well, the only things I know why other crypto currency falling is because bitcoin pumping. Look at eth today it is so dump while bitcoin pumps. When bitcoin pumps other alts down, when bitcoin dumps other alts coins pumps especially eth. This is not problem at all because this is already the pattern of economy of the coins, even bitcoin is like that so you must be ready for that.

I don't understand how your seeing price if your looking based on USD then you might see the big difference but if your following other cryptocurrency or bitcoin price comparison there not much difference I am seeing.
I think he is seeing the price of other currencies in relation to bitcoin that is why he is saying like that but actually the price of altcoins are not falling but actually the price of bitcoin is increasing and if he will look the price of altcoins in relation to usd then he will notice that the price has not fallen.

altcoin price drops in because many people sell it and divert to bitcoin because bitcoin, the impact of the appearance of bitcoin gold, I think that's what makes altcoin prices down

That will be always, cryptocurrencies will go down and up. The exchange rate of such currency as bitcoin is formed due to active demand, as it is with other currency assets. But since bitcoins have low overall capitalization, bitcoin rate is strongly influenced by the massive hype and major players. Also in that time China has caused a large crypto collapse.

Once again the same gas been taking place. Most of the assets were found declining in value along with bitcoin, now bitcoin has gone close to $5750. Hope the trend continues for some more time period and will start pumping towards the price from which it started to decrease once after the fork.

Keep calm and don't panic.

If you are a speculator, then volatility is to be expected and it's how you make money (buy the dips)

If you have invested your life savings, take a deep breath, wait and they will probably recover

Of course, with the rise in bitcoin value, this was bound to happen. And I think it will take a long long time before alts can come closer to their previously achieved heights.
And only a few would be able to actually break the shackles too.

This is why we need to hold our nerves when its bad times. In case you have bought bitcoin at the mark 3000usd then you have already doubvled your money now.So there is a famous saying "Buy when there is blood in the streets ,even if the blood is yours".
So when the market is down everyone is selling you must buy.And when the market is up and everyone is buying thats the time for you to sell.

That is true that almost all the cryptocurrency have fallen but there is one cryptocurrency that is still on the top and that is bitcoin and that is why for me, it is best to get some bitcoin too aside from the altcoins because the market of bitcoin is stronger than altcoin so it has a high chance for getting to the top and staying to the top.

Many people are interested to earn free bucks from the bitcoin. And they are not interested to just buy the bitcoin caused by its tech. Bitcoin as the primary crypto has very bright on its future. But this just give a conclusion about those are interesting caused by the bitcoin hardfork. Even some people are said that to hardfork bitcoin anytime to generate the free money to the bitcoin holders.
This is the power of the hardfork of the bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not declining man it is moving in the steady manner and it is already there at 6000usd and those it will move in upward direction for more two months and I am not sure about other crypto because bitcoin has so much influence in my life that I never think about any other coin, because bitcoin is giving me whatever I want and also declining of other crypto is just because people are loving bitcoin.

i realized that anytime there is a rise in bitcoin prize, all other coins always go on the reverse part of the game. i don't really understand this but i think it has to do with investors perception most times.

By its nature, crypto currency has a very high degree of volatility. which simply frightens her unrecognized users who are beginning to sell her and this further aggravates panic and aggravates the situation. However, a sharp decrease in the rate of crypto currency should not be frightened. After a certain time, it is again restored in price and continues its growth. Recently, a strong panic and a sharp decline in the rate was caused by information on the prohibition of ICO and restricting the circulation of crypto currency in China. Despite the fact that this issue in China has not yet been decided, bitcoin recovered at a certain time in his previous course and now confidently beats his own records in this regard.

This is just a correction of the last couple days of bitcoin growing a lot. The alts are now rising again because many people are selling their bitcoin in order to buy back into alts.

Fluctuation in the market value of Bitcoin usually affect altcoins negatively and positively  some time, and that is why many of them decline at that time, coupled with the news from China in relation to the ban of crypto currency ICO activities.

The scenario of the cryptocurrency coins on dump is literally always normal because the changes were are based on the market changes wherein the demands of the cryptocurrency coins happen in changes. This is just a normal characteristics of a currency just like Dollars, Euros and etc. We must see this as an opportunity to buy more coins since the price is on dump and we must ecpect that sooner or later the price will be back to normal.

The price of the market can not be emphasized by anyone. While it is not possible to say what is the price of coins, depending on the market's demand. Bitcoin's demand is increasing day by day, so the price of Bitcoin is rising upward. Today is a coin Prices may increase and tomorrow may be reduced. It is entirely dependent on market demand. Therefore, we all have to be aware of the market and Bitcoin's B Yabastu should be spread among all.
