Title: Bitcoins for Haitian Earthquake Victims
Post by: nkocevar on May 24, 2013, 01:54:39 PM
Although it has been over 3 years since the earthquake in Haiti ended the lives of almost 220,000, destroyed the homes of hundreds of thousands, and changed the lives, for the worst, of over 1 million. Although Habitat for Humanity, along with other groups, have build tens of thousands of houses, there are still MANY more to rebuild.  I am collecting Bitcoins to fund a trip to Haiti to be alongside H4H and build houses, as well as provide funds to families so they can stay stable for a while and be able to have nutritious food for them and their children. I know that I am going to get a whole bunch of comments saying I am going to "take the money and run" or I am a "scammer", but I will do neither of those things. That is why I am going to set up an escrow account with John K so he can distribute the money to me appropriately and I can provide him and you all the proof you need so that you can see that the money is being spent appropriately. I have yet to set up an account with John K, but we are talking about it in detail. I am not coming to you now asking you to send Bitcoins to a certain address, for I have yet to set up the account... All I am asking is that if you feel, in your heart, the need to do something right, that you pledge a certain amount of BTCs so when I do set up the account, I can contact you with the info you need to donate. Thank you for reading this, and I hope that some of you realize how lucky you really are, as I have recently. Have a nice day :)

Take a look at Boom Financial.  Bill Barhydt, who runs Boom and was at Bitcoin 2013, explained that Boom has outlets in Haiti.

Boom Financial Raises $17M to Make Banking Available to All (http://venturebeat.com/2012/07/18/boom-financial-raises-17m-to-make-banking-available-to-all/)

Use Boom (http://www.useboom.com/)

Barhydt might be open to some sort of deal, in which you, Boom, and CampBX or some other hungry Bitcoin exchange could arrange things such that the value in the Bitcoin found its way to the tent cities in Haiti.

I know that I am going to get a whole bunch of comments saying I am going to "take the money and run" or I am a "scammer", but I will do neither of those things. I am glad to see that escrow agents are in increasing demand.  I am thinking about registering my company as a trust agent, and this announcement has me leaning even more in that direction.

Thanks for the advice! So what your saying is others and I could get a "sponsorship" from the said companies, to fund a trip to Haiti "In the name of Bitcoins", so not only can we help, but we can show that people interested in Bitcoins aren't always in it for the profit of "self-gain", but also Self-less, Humanitarian Efforts? I also agree with your statement about escrow agents, and I do believe that registering your company as one would be a great idea, because even though Bitcoins are very secure, they are also very easy to scam and run with, so there is the need of those types of escrow companies! Heck, maybe if I get a lot of support from the community and enough pledged donations, I could be your first customer  ;)
