Title: 2FA on bitcoin talk
Post by: dreamer81 on September 05, 2017, 06:50:47 PM
Any possibilites that you guys can enable 2FA on this forum? there is so much scam and cheat going on, that its kinda hard to keep up. I really think it would lift the quality of members on here

it's a great solution to enable 2FA to give users the convenience that their bitcointalk account will not be broken or hacked by irresponsible people.

a great Idea, We as members of the forum should support it so that it can be submitted to the admin, lately there have been many who complain their accounts on the  hacked, I guess there must be action to this matter. I will suport

I think this is good  idea , with 2fa we have protected better for our account,  I hope admin will have a new function for bitcointalk forum. Thank you very much

I don't really see what the benefits really are with the extra security of 2FA.

No one is going to lose any money if there account is hacked or password is lost.

I don't seem to have any problems, but I would support any simple system that increases security.

Yeah, the owner may not lose any money on there account but the hacker can scam somebody using your account and somebody may lose money on it.

I support OP's idea it would be a great way to add some security on the site.

I agree with you. There are a lot of scam topics and a lot of cheaters. That's why sometimes I feel very insecure. If we use 2FA on this forum, it will be very useful for us. And we feel secure.

My account ibinsad was hacked yesterday.
I think in addition to 2fa :

1. Passwords must be longer and complex, all users must reset password

2. if hacker change the email I must approve the changes to the original email, he/she must have access to the email before having total control of the account

3. Optional phone verification, send an sms before important changes.. If someone want maybe have to pay because sms are not free.

So administrator and users have not to lose their time to resume accounts

i like  number 2 because it 's perfect
hacker access to the email  is  not possible , because email have sms phone, 2FA ......
i don't know why bitcointalk  don't update this function
it is not too difficult
it can help admin ,mod don't must recover or verify member's account .

I agree and support each and every idea being suggested by the respected members to the admin regarding security and protection of our bitcointalk accounts. If anything like receiving an automated message to our registered email address everytime we log in to our account is possible then that would be helpful too.

It will be good if someone want, approve the login, after that with that computer or mobile you can be logged forever.

Blockchain has the feature to approve the login.

Correct but the money are from the account that people spend time to rank up. All the effort of contributing in the forum will just go to waste if our account were hacked. That's why any security for our account will be a great idea. Kampay!!!

I would 100% support this idea but it has been discussed repeatedly, again and again. It will not be done on the current forum software.

1. Passwords must be longer and complex, all users must reset password
Depends on what you think is complex. Most of the accounts were hacked either through malware or leaked database; it is very inefficient and a waste of time trying to bruteforce any accounts here.
2. if hacker change the email I must approve the changes to the original email, he/she must have access to the email before having total control of the account
Its not easy, most forum members do not actually have a valid email right now.
3. Optional phone verification, send an sms before important changes.. If someone want maybe have to pay because sms are not free.

So administrator and users have not to lose their time to resume accounts
Not so much of the anonymous nature of Bitcoin being included in the forum, right? 2FA is really more than sufficient, if anyone can get through 2FA, they will get through everything you stated.

I definitely agree with what you are saying.
I just know what people are like from a day to day viewpoint, whereby they will always use the same username and password for all their sites no matter what they're told.

[/quote]
i don't think so because we know so the first register we have a valid email to receive  email confirm .
if not we have message for they and they can update email  then come  back bitcointalk .
and last question "why not update 2 FA because it is best ".

Maybe the best solution right now is to change password frequently, it seems there is no interest to improve security.
If you have a Legendary account and you make business here, you have to wait couple of time until it will be resume, so change password frequently.

The info managed in this account is too much important to be lost by hackers

I also had a hacked account. Moderator blocks the account only via sign message. I suggest that the introduced 2fa.
I also think password change would be possible only from the original email is a good protection for us BCT users.
I'd like to see more protection being introduced because I've read about many hacked accounts here.

I think it's a great idea.
We spend time contributing to the board and having it just vanish sucks!
I am still trying to recover my real account from 2015 board hack without much luck.

I use 2FA just about on anything.

2FA would certainly be a very good addition to the forum but I doubt that it will be added in the near future. The best way to secure your account is to keep your anti-virus up to date and to not click on random links.

I have no hopes for 2FA or anything meaningful on this forum at this point. It doesn't seem like the devs or mods care. I tried to regain control of a thread I've created in the local forums after getting hacked and even that was completely ignored by a mod despite a polite and well-explained inquiry.

I have proven the ownership of my hacked account as well and have not gotten any sort of response in over a month. The email hasn't been changed either apparently, but it still won't let me to restore the password via email.

It's quite interesting that nobody seems to care about anything on here and I wouldn't be surprised if a substantial amount of fresh investors got deterred from Bitcoin entirely solely by strolling through this forum. There's definitely no surprise that some billionaire investors proclaim that Bitcoin itself is a pyramid scheme or scam if they went through this place as reference...

Hopefully the admins actually care and will do something about this situation, but since 2FA has been requested for such a long time that seems unlikely. There's absolutely no quality control in posts either and people just deliberately spam and copy paste absolute garbage throughout the entire forum.

Very sad to see what BCT turned into over the years.

Yes, I'm also think like this, what you get with 2FA, safety??  ??? ??? I don't think so, just what we need is very good password and checking location from which you access to your account.

Try to be simple, don't complicate.

There's nothing complicated about 2FA. And it can also be optional, so people can freely choose whether or not they want to use it.

But right now the forum doesn't even need you to require a password change via email, otherwise hacks would be pointless.

I'm with two hand for 2FA. In past months Digital Section is filled with hacked Hero/Legendary accounts.
For example I have 1-2 years old staked address, but the procedure is too slow in case of a problem.

that's right with danya 2FA will add good security features and provide more level of comfort to the user.
it seems that just relying on passwords and emails is not enough to make our account safe so there is no harm if there are other 2FA features.

If 2FA cant be put on this forum then a 2nd idea could be making logins only via email rather than username.  I'm no security expert but hackers already have all the login username for taking random shots to hack anyone on this forum.  I know before 2fa the exchange BTC-e used to have username logins and changed it to email for this reason.

Checking this thread in 2018, can't believe we still don't have something like 2FA.  The thought of legendary member and project team accounts being hacked makes me cringe a little.  Hopefully we'll see 2FA implemented sometime soon.

Bumping this thread in hope that some forum moderators see this. I expect answer why this has not been done yet. Addition of 2FA shouldn't cost too much so where is the problem?

Title: Re: 2FA on bitcoin talk

Even without 2FA it is highly secure. Quite often users from newbie accounts create thread stating that their account got hacked. This issue is not much of the security concern or the 2FA into implementation. This happens most of the time due to the careless of the respective user of the particular account.

bitcointalk really needs 2FA...my account was just hacked by someone in Turkey, they gained access to both my bitcointalk/email and effectively changed the email on file on the account/password thus locking me out completely. I've messaged Cyprus about recovering my account but for users that did not have a bitcoin address set up or had PGP key in place, they are SOL. very frustrating as i've had the account since 2014 and I have no way of recovering it.

I don't really see what the benefits really are with the extra security of 2FA.

No one is going to lose any money if there account is hacked or password is lost.

Many people make money here on BitcoinTalk by participating in Signature Programs. Practically losing an account means losing money.
