Title: Dual mining

Sorry for the newbie question, but could someone explain what dual mining is, and the benefits please?

If you are referring to Claymore's Dual Miner it basically boils down to mining one coin that utilizes a hashing algorithm that primarily memory intensive and another coin using a more calculation heavy algorithm.

I understanding what mining is...

I am more asking what Dual Mining is? Mining two coins at once? Two Pools at once? How do this effect hash rate?  Does it half the hash rate of mining a single coin at once?

Thanks

Like I said, you mine two coins in parallel. The primary one is usually Ethereum (at least with Claymore) and the second one something like Decred (DCR), Siacoin (SC) or Pascal (PASC). The miner's affinity toward the secondary can adjusted towards the secondary to some degree.

Dual mining is refering to a specific mining software : the Claymore"s dual miner.

This software is the only one who permit you to mine 2 cryptocurrencies at the same time, with a good hashrate for the two (very near than full hashrate for the first : Ethereum and a bood hashrate for the second : Decred, Lbry, SiaCoin, Pascal...).
This is possible because some crytos use more the GPUs units (calculations) and some others use more the memory (GPU memory).
