Post by: digitalindustry on May 26, 2013, 12:10:55 PM

v0.6.5.2
Block Explorer: http://nib.p2pool.nl/stats/

: D

Current Version is v0.6.5.2

Explanation of Changes

With all the recent problems we have been seeing with up and coming potential currencies , We took action to try to make life for the miner/investor at these early stages as good/ secure and solid as possible.

how we aimed to achieve this was:

- Kept to a predictable and ultra low fee structure.

- Stabilized the Wallet and fixed the code issues.

- All Sync issues are fix that we know of

- Added Checkpoints.

Things we are reviewing for the future :

- Dynamic third party Checkpoints

- Possible move to PoS - if we can avoid the code bloat and the issues.

like any other Cryptocurrency it is what it is !    : D

what's Twitter?

it's probably more valuable than Twitter in the future.

It only looks like twitter cuz it is a bird and it is blue.  If you had run with red from the start I don't think so many people would be posting retarded "twitter" comments.

yeah agreed ! , i really like the red , we are in very early stages here , but for the moment i think we should keep it blue, although I’m open to feedback.

These seniors have to attack any new Crypto that could be promising, its just what they have to do, its like the wolf and the sheep on that cartoon , they clock on and off at the end of the day , i bet they are mining and buying but .

Definitely not a hater, been mining nibbles since they were released...But...the logo is just the twitter bird flipped.  Just curious why does the  logo have to be a bird, and why so similar to twitter?

hey no problem , hope you see good times ahead !

logo does not have to be a bird, it could have theoretically been anything in the world.

I don't think it is like Twitter, but I don't think that others thinking that is a negative thing either.

but to answer what i believe,  i think you are getting at :

Cryptocurrency can only be successful if it is not an "underground" inequitable idea.

Bitcoin got some press, any MSM press is of a very suspicious nature, (if you are as intelligent as i am ; )   )

That aside - Cryptocurrency needs to be of benefit to the most people possible to be successful , it remains to be seen if Bitcoin is any of those things.

the rest becomes a little more complex:

you may say :

" but fiat is the most inequitable and it is a success!"

yes but fiat was the original "original design" , also it is sanctioned by the Nation state.

lets minus those two things from the equation - and look at Bitcoin.

now we have something that has a credibility problem which was partly caused by it's own success.

why a bird ?
becasue the market is not this forum. the market is the person you just brought your coke off.

ha ha no friend , this is the [ANN] of the new logo and new client , the original was :

 -   Launch date time approx - May 18th 2013 @ 11PM -  UTC

its in the topic under specs - no pre -mine no "Instamine" becasue of a low reward output up until diff 1 , this is the real deal.

the Dev dosn't hold a bunch , and neither do I , i will be buying soon but.

Nibble is not a scam, like gold coin.  Gold coin dev stated in a thread he premined 2 million, and these people are still supporting it.  Now there's a scammer who added an s to the dev's name, and is giving people viruses.

Support Nibble people!

Difficulty is still only around 4!

Is a bird-logo connected to twitter for all times?

As far as I know, birds do exist longer than twitter does...

Let's say we started mining NBL where can we exchange with BTC?

We have purposely kept it off any exchange for the moment - I will update the Topic with the exchange link  that Don is running .

You can offer it on here, or any other forum , there are many trusted sellers..

Question is but :

Unless you have a large amount of hash power why would you sell it straight up now?
It makes little sense ha ha  ?

I’m not a master Chess player but...  it just wouldn’t make sense to sell a bunch now , but if you are I’ll be a buyer !
You see, there is a general misunderstanding that on to an exchange means success....??

all an exchange is , is a market for buyers and sellers...

Well sure its a success for the Dev if he premined say 2 million , yeah so he can dump them at whatever he can get for them?

but that's not what we are doing here , that's not the type of operation we are running !  : D

I would consider changing the coluor but to tell you the truth the fake "Twitter" calls are not a real problem, even if this gets known as "Twittercoin" that's not a negative really

all these people are doing is associating twitter to our legitimate design , new people or people that wouldn't know any better might think there is some connetion, i.e free press.

so really guys don't let that annoy you its actually a compliment .

If we had an App with our logo and/ or we promoted it outside here , i think that would be effective.

having said that we are still on the forum here , so Red could be pulled off , but i do like the blue still , lets see how strongly the other users feel about it.

ha ha if i now see a bunch of unknown new users saying to change it , that would mean the senior spammers hate the blue = we keep it.  : D

edit*** i hope you guys realize that most of the accounts on here are fake, the idea is make fake accounts and promo your "coin"..

further too that the Bitcoin group were/are making a lot of the "spam coin" their idea was to dilute the base of sCrypt , and help their own cause, if any sCrypt currency design goes to $20 $30 = sCrypt breakout = ASIC death. = lot of lost money.

i'm sure this keeps any ASIC owner or indeed ASIC company up at night.

only problem is i can see the future and read your mind, i was given those super powers by the Russians, so  : D  < joke

regardless we are here for the new people, and we will move to a forum of our own if we have to, but my better advice is to an ASIC owner, cut your loss or break even you have ONE currency you live or die on, that's not really a market , and the currency is very centralized, you are more like a gold owning sovereign hoping for the collapse of the USD. = disadvantage .

or more accurate you are like an Army running around trying to attack nations that are not selling and trading in your currency in say oh, you  know oil for example. , except you have no military advantage and you are communist like inefficent.

edit****

this also means sCrypt was a success, the first thing that was tried was an sCrypt ASIC and it

= Cost up front prohibitive
= Cost in power lots more.

Agree that if people think "Twittercoin" that's not a negative really, if anything that's a bonus. A familarish icon on a crypto coin might be a great marketing ploy!

Imo the blue looks very clean and inviting, the familiar bird makes it look trustworthy and user friendly too.

I've always considered the bitcoin community to be pretty hypocritical when denouncing alt coins as "scamcoins"...many criteria they use for this label also apply to Bitcoin:

  • Mysterious, anonymous developer who disappears off the face of the earth soon after launch?  Check!
  • Huge premine?  Check!
  • Massive advantage to early adopters?  Check!

That's off the top of my head.  Ok I know it is not quite the same situation now and of course Bitcoin was the first and the original pioneer...but the similarities do exist.

then add dodgey deals and huge centralization. what's that = ?

Are there plans for any exchanges to accept nibble?

yes there is , need to be patient . we don't want to put it on just any exchnage .

we would rather have it on less , but larger , having said that any exchange can list whatever they would like.

I would seriously considering revamping that logo. Maybe a blue coin with a bird's head on the face. Flow with the river and ride the currents. You may face an insurmountable upstream current if you decide to stick with the twitter'ish logo.

Good luck and god bless! :)

thanks for the encouragement ! - i guess we will find out ! ?

i like swimming upstream !

maybe the nibble bird is flying against the wind ! ?

because we are not a fake spam coin made by the BTC devs - their plan (according to my mind reading abilities)

was to spam out bunches of "coin" to hurt LTC and any "up and coming" threat of a currency

once we got one listing - and BTC-e knows its not spam , then we fall into "Threat" category because we are not Porncoin or SExcoin..

Can anyone with a relevant new pool info - pm me or post it in this topic , the idea of me having one is i'm on here more - and thus can keep this one updated for Hyoshi .

in fact all and any updates can you post here so we can keep this topic the main nibble topic - if hyoshi doesn't mind that is.

if he pm's me i will update anything he wants.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2055869/German-cafe-Apfelkind-logo-dispute-Apple.html

You can see the differences in the link, somewhat different but got massively sued by apple. You have to watch out. Twitter is about a 11 Billion dollar market cap company quite big. I would be very wary about the use of a logo similar to twitter. You could lose your house, and everything you own if you did get in a lawsuit.

I do recommend some changes, perhaps a red bird? Or a bird on a coin, though on the news the color was different made no difference.

Though reading on closer inspection the person did eventually win the battle, though
do you really want to create a mess of lawsuits, and lawyers, and deal with judges?
And maybe pull through?

Best regards
Lightlord

Lightloard sent me this Pm - so i want to ask the forum, what should we do ?

i mean its a pretty scary prospect to be sued by a billion dollar industry such as twitter and stuff.

i mean we wouldn't want that right.

i might throw this to a vote?

The way it works is if a company believes they have a copyright they will contact you and ask you to remove/change it first. They dont just outright file a lawsuit.  ::)

Absolutely. Litigation can be expensive, and even companies as large as Apple or Twitter like to avoid it at all costs. Not only would they use any means at their disposal to contact you, they would warn you (and probably more than once) before any action is taken.

you know i get a lot of mail , what if i miss the letter?

something like that could get out of hand , becasue then they would think i'm just ignoring them, should i contact them first you think?, prempting a letter that they might send, both Apple and Twitter just in case?

maybe i could Sue them first ? or is that stupid?

Again, they will make sure you are located & contacted by whatever means they have at their disposal before litigation. I mean, how are they going to summons you if they dont know who you are? And how would they look in front of any magistrate (after somehow dragging you into court), without having first advised you that you are in breach of copyright? They would be laughed out of court. I'm no lawyer but if your really that concerned I'm sure there's some numbers you can ring to obtain free legal advice over the phone.

They will send a letter and you will eventually have to change the logo. This will only happen if Nibble succeeds. So if you want to have a brighter future change it now. Changing it later will be more damaging to nibble.

what if i see the future and it tells me :

1. its hard to sue a Cryptocurrency

2. Who the fuck am i?

3. I don't care.

Ever tried to sue the Palestinians MicroGuy? You know some people you just can't sue , that's my point mate.

 hey i didn't mean to be grating .

No problem thanks for the feedback , it will be a popular currency - but in a certain sector , to answer you no i don't want to have a strictly "retail" environment for it.

But it will be worth more than Bitcoin in the future v USD  {i do see the future} .

So it depends how you measure success?

i'd say buy some. mining at 1.7 diff is also stupid easy.

I'm on Cryptsy and will be watching it along with a few others. Good luck man with your coin and I wish you all the best.

Hey thanks ! : )

Also with your service - does it work the other way , does your service provide an easy way to get from Paypal to BTC?

I will go and check it out , just a bit busy now , i heard as Paypal absolutely despises anything Crypto there is problem with charge backs, going in that direction?
PP > BTC

if so id definitly like to use it .

its good how good will generate business.

Hi

Just to inform you I have added Nibble to my escrow services and I can now perform trades between users. Whether you are buying items, digital services or wish to swap to other cryptocurrencies you can now.

I charge a rate of 3% for standard transactions but this can be lowered for exceptionally high amounts or volume discounts.

Please visit www.KoolioEscrow.com to carry a trade out!

Please note if you wish me to add a manual orderbook if your coin has no exchange presence this can be done, but rates would be 5% or a sizeable donation from devs in return for a lower % fee for all trades.

Please PM or contact me through my site as I may miss replies on forum threads....

Thanks

Koolio

feedback welcome on this Topic - obviously if you have supported nibble from the start or held it we will consider your opinion more seriously.

explanation :

not intending to dump the blue bird all together just wanted to simply an official nibble logo .

And no fear from Twitter that was never going to happen, this way the white nibble shrinks much better.

White represents freedom , blue trust - average investors will warm to that much more - as we have to decide those things here before we market nibble outside -

ha ha you can have that one , if you want to believe it , but actually i wanted to simplify to make it shrink for coinchoose and smaller logos on the wallet that led me to the white - i've always known the blue is trust , that's my background - white is obvious, also you will see my comments before about how i knew the logo was too complex-  i could choose to make the bird black - but then i lost the eye and the chest - so white was the obvious answer , another colour does not contrast well at 16x16.

all credit to eMuni i love it , but its logo is not as pretty as nibble ha ha , but it dosn't have to be,  to do what it needs to do . in fact i suppose it needs to be more "Transactional" -

you need to catch up to me Nick i have :

i can claim you copied the blue?

Blocks are being solved - the intention perhaps of the miners is to push us back to higher diff , this is an aspect of the free market - i support this .

the holders of the units have to hold or sell after this point.

we will monitor and work against any potential attacks in this period - if we believe this has occurred we will take all action necessary.

but you can put a cross though "Bottelcaps" soon as I sent 1100 odd to Cryptsy and they went to never never land.

I don't want to be rude , but it all just looks like bad management, not Verns fault but this is why we didn't rush to move to PoS.

This is going to sound odd... but check that your variables are matched correctly...

28337 is what it seems stuck at...

See that all ints, units, longs, floats, doubles, etc... actually give what you expect in ranges.

Same with shift commands and masks... It is obviously related to processing of a "valid block"... Unless it is screwing-up the NONCE or the wrong value for the initial genesis-seed/block is being used. (Thus, rejecting all our work, because it is all invalid.)

I would bet that it is something silly, like cramming an int into a uint, and reading it back out as an int. (That alters the value when it shifts the byte for the negative-switch, to the last bit. Safe for small numbers but once you reach half-int, it changes.)

Though, it seems to be letting me mine. Will be sad if these blocks just disappear too... like my last days work mining.

As I typed, I found block 28338... now it says I am synched... I fixed it! lol... or just gonna eat my coins again!

lol... spoke too soon... I think...

Says I found a block, but nothing in my wallet... seems orphaned.

If I am on the right chain, and the other is the wrong one, then it should show later, once this one grows-up past the incorrect one. I assume that the other one my wallet sees is invalid, or it would have me mining on it. It must see it, or it would have added the found block to my wallet.

so... does that mean the other block is invalid... or it just isn't selecting the correct taller chain? (Could that be the bug? That it is selecting the second largest chain, or that the other guys are just not "talking", sending the taller chain, but still reporting the height?)

ISAWHIM :

can you confirm if it was orphan or not?

as far as we looked the chain is not forked , but i don't discount this possibility i will start to test now.

can i ask where you mined or did you solo mine ?

is it possible for you to register here?:

http://nbl.pnwminer.com

If you mine a block here as a test - I will give you a block so that we may help resolve this .

My wallet count went up by one block, the chain went up by one block... the cgminer reported it as "approved"... (Nothing indicates "orphaned" blocks in the wallet. I would have to dig through the wallet to actually "see" the block info.)

The block I found was the one listed above, 28338. Even the coin-choose website indicated that was the new block-height, after I found it. (The one that I stated was just found, as I was typing.)

It could have just been a one-time orphan. I switched to another coin after that.

Testing again tonight...

If it orphans again, then there is a fork, and I am just on the wrong side of it. (Not sure how that works, if the wallet is the mining access, and the network it is talking to has identified it as an orphan, it should be moving me to the correct chain.)

The only thing weird I noticed, is that the wallet still said, "not synched", while I was mining that block. The block-height was the one listed on all the coin pages, to I took a risk and mined. Once it found that block, the orphan, my wallet finally said it was synced...

I will try registering on a pool later. It does not show you approved or rejected blocks, only approved or rejected shares. If that pool is on the right chain, then it would show with the other miners, since they are all mining to the same wallet for the same chain. (The pools wallet).

brb, trying to mine it again.

P.S. I am not worried about loosing one block, after the 60+ blocks (3000+ coins), I lost from the days of mining it after the 27th to the 29th... all those disappeared from my wallet.

I still can't connect to anything that runs...

Latest block is 28353, 4 days ago, as the wallet reports it. Never gets past that point.

Starts downloading saying the block-height is 28224... Goes up to 28353 then dies...

No IPs in the list ever go past that block... Yet, someone is mining.

NOTE: This is the windows build (v0.6.5.2-g397646f-nibble)

Might be why the coin is taking a nose-dive in value. Still waiting for a fix. Not sure how anyone can be trading if the coins can't be sent to anyone...

I'll test it but as far as Ive seen its functioning all be it slowly after the diff hike - i'll check it out .

everything i have says 28353 - so i'll investigate - the market drop is a part of the market mechanism why would people want to buy high into selling multipools ? , i don't see this as an overall negative in fact on/close to next diff change I will try to inform the market as to pull any large buy orders , in the effect to make these guys sell lower .

but that's up to the market again .

the miners are serving a purpose and the buyers want to buy cheap , why not?

for DGC, i'd advise number 1 on the list of things to do would be a Dynamic hardened check point system , for Nibble we of course would roll back or stop the BC but for DGC it would do a lot of damage , if i were the DGC Dev that's what i'd be spending my funds on , or not of course.... its an interesting political environment.

If i were DGC I'd Checkpoint every 1000 blocks - without a worry in the world.

why they have not done this or even updated the broken client , I'm not sure ?  perhaps they are giving up on it ? but I'll make these suggestions to them.

My comment about buying wasn't about "why are they buying it"... as in... "why spend money on it"...

My comment was about... "why would they buy a coin that can not be sent"... since it is "stuck" on that block, there is no possibility of "getting any transactions"... since a transaction requires a block to be solved, to transmit the coin.

You have a bad node on your list...

Use this config info...

(You may have to delete the block info and peer info files. Everything except the wallet.dat and your config file.)

splash=0
server=1
gen=0
testnet=0
daemon=1
maxconnections=10
listen=1

addnode=106.187.94.209
addnode=70.79.24.157
addnode=109.80.94.251
addnode=95.110.156.138

addnode=99.132.231.140
addnode=72.11.149.185
addnode=207.12.89.2
addnode=46.39.246.24
addnode=54.244.198.104
addnode=72.78.100.3
addnode=71.59.225.19

Just be aware that there only seems to be 4 connections alive, including my own connection, at the moment. The top four are all I can connect to. The rest fail to connect.

Also note, I am the one who found the last two blocks... though I found 2, I got only 1... Both were accepted, there is no-one else to be orphaning... something ate one of my blocks. It even updated the network with my block, but it never made it into my wallet. Only the block after the first block I found. (Unless it doesn't give us credit for the block just found, until the next block is found. Which makes sense, sort-of...)

Nice to know I am not the only one mining now. I don't mind earning all the coins for myself... but I am effectively 99% of the network at the moment, by the stats. lol... screw 51% attack, I'm gonna 99% attack! JK

BTW, do you have the new client? I have not seen that since the old client.

I am running the latest greatest from the OP in this thread. I have been having the Litecoin sync issue on every version of the client since it came out.

I mined 28361 and 28363, the latter of which must have orphaned the one you are missing ;) sorry bout that!

As for the bad node, I am trying to check my peers when the client tries to sync up with LTC, and I noticed that 1 peer had a starting height of ~64k and a weird port number.

yes I've look at this this is due to the IRC Node fallback - we may even take this out of the code , but its not a Client error

if you put the Connect node in your list also.

let me double check but have you guys got this in there

great to see - i don't want to blow our own horn here but we have had a solid node built in since 6.5

We have one of the most switched on Devs working with us , Caps has only just decided to build in nodes in 4.1 i believe.

**

I like Caps a lot they have done interesting things with he re-target , but i'm not convinced that all the Forking isn't due to that in some way either, but they have taken the rough road and hopefully it will pay off , i respect that in the same way we refuse to bend to the "latest" and change our parameters either.

history will judge us.

How unfortunate for it , what I will try to do is ring around , make a few calls , and see if I can't  locate it ...

I will zip down and put up couple of posters and see if I get any calls about this missing file .

In the meantime I will try to locate a complete and perfect copy and put it in its place but perhaps at a different download location hopefully that will suffice ..

If anyone sees this file wandering aimlessly or looking lost/ begging for Nybble on the street  please contact me.

Don't aapproach this wild file.

I wouldn't be the top or highest authority on that matter , but.

Salsa is the hash derived from Colin Percival , it made up sCrypt the most popular now hash type , started with some previous currency but breaking popularity with LTC.

SCrypt- Jane was touted as a " cpu only " type of hash , but that is spurious at best and proved incorrect .

As to the details I haven't found the need to look into them , as they did not derive any special benefit as I could see.

But you could look at sCrypt-Jane politically as an attempt to do what LTC did but with a pre mine aspect as the coders  probably had a GPU miner before the " public"  as was recently suggest that LTC had done so .

Without any further evidence to the contrary , that's what I would assume if I was you, but as it turns out I'm not.

What i will do now,  is carefully go over the source and get it recompiled , i will not use a compiled version i have as if a PC has been compromised that file would also be .

that would be nasty business indeed ...

I will bang a fresh new client up from the source, and hopefully all will be well and good.

Indeed post your address id like any new supporter or profit miner to have Nybble.

This blockchain you will be mining was the first truly verifiable honest start and many miners and buyers currently hold it , in some shape or form.

Cryptocurrency moves in frequencies like many other entity's of our/ this planet.

On the headline and in the future there will be coming an update , im still looking over the structure of such.

I am also having trouble getting connections in order to synchronize.  So far, my nibble client is showing 0 connections.  I am using the config from the first post.  Are there any working nodes that we should know about?

With other clients, if the sync was stuck at a particular block, I have closed the client and reopened it and the sync then continues, but I cannot even get started.

It seems that most of the network mining power disappeared and left the difficulty of the coin at 7.1957 which is quite high for the remaining miners.  I have a pending transfer at Cryptsy that has been sitting there for over 10 hours with 0 confirmations so have decided to put some mining power back on NBL and see if I can get some movement.  Up to now there appears to be only 4.4MH/s mining, so with my 2.3MH/s - maybe we can start moving blocks.  One problem that I foresee is that the difficulty will stay this way for at least another 1200 blocks or so, before it will drop down to match the mining power and get reasonable.  It isn't helping when we cannot synchronize our wallets and when our transactions cannot confirm.

Finally some movements, 2 blocks in the past 3 hrs, means 2 confirmations on transfers it seems.  So we need to keep mining blocks to keep the system running.  Now - how do we get our wallets synchronized?

Current block is 39099 - taking a bit of time to crack, been working away for just over 3 hrs now.  Next difficulty change in 1221 blocks - something to look forward to.

[Edit] Now current block is 39102 - been taking its time.

I took my laptop to my sister's place and used her internet - Nibble eventually synchronized although it sat there saying there was 7600 blocks to go, for a very long time.  After dinner I found it had synchronized.

Now at home, I start the Nibble client and it got one connection to the network and appears to be synchronized - certainly it is at block 39102 which agrees with the mining pool that I am mining at.  I think the problem for me is that I go through two firewalls at home, so may need to look at that and work out if I should dedicate a virtual machine to running the client and have it available 24/7.  I have a few hardware upgrades to do first though.

Anyway, the peer that I am connected to is:

"addr" : "109.10.236.54:8550"

That might help you.

Looks like there is still life in this old bird.  A couple of other miners have come out to help - one of them with a lot of hashing power.  However these blocks are still taking their time to crack.  Also I opened my Nibble wallet again, and now it hasn't found any connections - will leave it for a while.

Last block found is 39106 - although the mining pool was still working on this for the past 5 hours, so I am having to do other things with my rigs for the time being - need to try to earn some more coins somehow.  Most of the other miners are gone, so I am having a go at solo mining.

One thing I should mention is that this morning, I was unable to get connections to the network until I realized what I had changed since last night.  I changed my nibble.conf to put back the connect line last night and after that it failed to connect.  Then I removed the connect line, i.e. changed it to

;connect=nblnode.digitalindustry.info

and then restarted my Nibble client, and it got a connection - 1 and now 2, and updated to the current block 39106, but the green tick hasn't come up yet - maybe it takes a while, so try this - everyone who is having trouble connecting and synchronizing.

I solo mined block 39107 - cgminer shows block accepted, and my wallet shows 1 transaction, but no details - so what is going on?  No amounts unconfirmed either.

I checked the nbl.pnwminer.com pool and it is showing as currently working on 39107 - so did I just waste my 2 hrs of mining for nothing?

Also, somehow the wallet is trying to sync onto the litecoin chain.  Somehow it connected to a litecoin wallet and thinks "~44817 block(s) remaining".

So, do I close my wallet and open it again?  If I do this, will the block that I just solved stay?

[Edit]

I closed my wallet, then reopened, and it got connected to the network - yes, green tick.  It still says 1 transaction but no transaction details.

I went to the debug console, and the listtransaction command gave me the following:

[
{
"account" : "",
"category" : "immature",
"amount" : 50.00000000,
"confirmations" : 1,
"blockhash" : "b03e6b6e004265075d0d3081e05880b65b5117bb7c79ce40a310fbb09d41f78c",
"blockindex" : 0,
"txid" : "9503ba399997b3d31d4c8d268c4e8f6f10e89e53e226049958ff9d69429274c6",
"time" : 1388288694
}
]

So, I guess this is good, and I just have to keep mining away!  A pity that the wallet only shows Confirmed and Unconfirmed amounts, so maybe have to wait for the immature amount to get a few more confirmations before it becomes unconfirmed...

[Edit2]

Sorry spoke too soon, the green tick went away and it is trying to sync again to the litecoin blockchain.  I guess it won't succeed, but maybe I should just delete my peers.dat and start again.

I stopped my wallet, then deleted the peers.dat file and restarted my wallet.  Now it comes up and didn't try to sync with the litecoin blockchain so I guess this is fine now.  Also I changed my firewall settings to allow port forwarding of tcp/8550 to come to my wallet machine - maybe it will make it easier for others who may need to locate a node.

After 5 hours still working on block 39108 - but noticed that the wallet now says out of sync.  This is probably based on the time of the last block received or found.  The 4 other peers that my wallet is connected to - show 39107 as the current block number.

Block 39108 has finally been solo-mined - took 9.5 hours.  Now my wallet says 2 transactions, no details, but Immature is 50.00 NBL - shouldn't it show 100.00 NBL?

listtransactions in debug console shows:

[
{
"account" : "",
"category" : "immature",
"amount" : 50.00000000,
"confirmations" : 2,
"blockhash" : "b03e6b6e004265075d0d3081e05880b65b5117bb7c79ce40a310fbb09d41f78c",

"time" : 1388322989
}
]

Also the client is again trying to synchronize to the litecoin blockchain.  When I check the debug.log file, it appears to be wanting to connect to a peer on port 9333.  The debug.log file shows that mostly these clients on port 9333 are disconnected for misbehavior when they respond with a different version i.e.

Disconnected 85.11.41.149:9333 for misbehavior (score=100)

But, this is not happening to all of them, and eventually one is used as a peer, then we have the problem of trying to sync.  I read that previously this was fixed by using the connect=nblnode.digitalindustry.info but this node is not working, so the problem continues.

I have been persisting with the Nibble/Nybble mining - current block being worked on is 39117.  However I am finding that the client is making connections to not just litecoin but also worldcoin and other altcoins.  This comes about because the client code is based on the original Bitcoin client - future developers should really change the subversion to make it distinct and then check for this when making peer connections.  This should avoid peering with incompatible altcoin clients.  An example of what I mean is:

Here we see WDC client on port 11081, LTC client on port 9333, and FTC client on port 9336.  I realize that we cannot restrict based on port 8550 alone because some clients may be forced to use different ports due to local network restrictions, but maybe the "subver" could be used to indicate "/Nybble:0.6.5.3/" assuming 0.6.5.3 would be a later version to 0.6.5.2 - then we could make peer connections based on looking for Nybble etc.  I don't find this problem happening with other altcoin clients, and I do run quite a few of them from time to time - so can we get this fixed?

Happy New Year!

I don't see much mining activity on NBL at present.

The last block solved was 39119 - very slow going.  The block has been broadcast, but I don't have any incoming confirmations as yet that the network has accepted it.  I think this might be due to too few operational nodes - maybe they have shutdown for the holidays.  I was looking at a pool but the nbl.pnwminer.com pool seems to be behind at 39117.

A few things I have done, I configure my Windows Firewall to block nibble-qt.exe from accessing certain outbound tcp ports.  After I did this and continued to block ports I find that my client now does not try to synchronize with other coin's blockchains.  I realize that this is really unnecessary as other blockchains cannot be incorporated but it does reduce the network traffic and reduce the cpu usage as the received blocks are not being orphaned all the time or being rejected.  I am blocking these ports, 2543, 4401, 7785, 7999, 9333-9337, 9527, 9556, 10333, 10442, 11081, 11351, 12128, 13809, 15678, 19667.  I realize that I could just block port ranges, but wanted to keep them individual - I check the debug.log file from time to time whenever I see it trying to sync incorrectly then block the port again etc.

Now I seem to only be connecting to one other node 54.200.132.23.  My client does connect to 70.79.24.157 but that node does not respond with a version message.  My node address is still 124.189.53.150 - so if there are any other working clients out there, can someone let me know.

Hi - we need more miners on nbl.pnwminer.com - I tried solo mining, but gave up when I realized that solo mining requires 120 confirmations, now I am back on the pool which only needs 20 confirmations.  The current block is 39139 - been working on this for the past 8.4 hrs, we need more miners to speed this up - only 1181 blocks to go before the difficulty retargets to something a lot more reasonable.  I know this is a big ask, but if someone has spare mining power - NBL is still a good earner, but we need more miners so that transfers and deposits don't take forever.

[Edit]  This is just a long block, usually it has been taking around 2hrs per block, but if we get more miners, we can reduce the time.  Transfers and deposits generally need 8 or so confirmations, meaning 8 blocks to be solved - currently taking a day to confirm but more miners means more hashing power means quicker confirmation times.

Great - thanks.  Let's keep it up - there are 4 miners at the moment, so blocks should be getting quicker.  Currently on 39143.  That block 39139 took 19.5 hrs - I almost gave up on it, but glad I persisted.  Let's all keep this coin alive, although it looks like Cryptsy isn't confirming deposits - one I have is stuck at 8 confirmations for the past 4 blocks.

If we are just 4 miners, we could change the source and recompile to change faster difficulty? is just an idea but we could do it by consensus.

That is not advisable.  Also it will not work unless we only solo mine, since the wallet would have to be changed on the pool servers as well.  I suppose that there was never an expectation that the mining power would more or less disappear - which is sort of what happened.  With the release of new coins - many of the big speculative miners will jump onto a new coin, get a bundle then go onto the next coin.  They wait for the coin to hit an exchange, then sell out.  This then leaves a lot of coins in situations that the difficulty is high, and with little mining power.  However NBL still is worth something - more than some coins anyway, so it is worthwhile mining for a steady income.  I am aiming with my 2MH/s to get about 0.02BTC equivalent in coins a day.  With NBL I am not reaching my target, but am prepared to keep going.  Once the difficulty drops in 1176 blocks - we should be able get around 0.1BTC a day I expect if the coin value doesn't drop.  When will this happen - if we get a few more miners, maybe get to 20MH/s on the pool, we can do this in about 1 month.  If we can't - then it will take longer.  Don't forget that the target block time is 2.5 minutes, so once the difficulty retargets, we are aiming at about 576 blocks per day or 28,800 NBL a day or something like 2880 NBL for every 2MH/s miner - current value is 0.15BTC.  This is optimistic and might not work for very long before people find out about it and start mining it again - but if we are there at the beginning, we have a head start.

What is a reasonable bet for the difficulty to reset to normal values again? I may join the mining party if it makes sense (experienced Nibble from the start).

Hi',
     I got a nibble wallet (0.6.5.2) & a load of nibble.

Wallet is constantly out of sync...doesn't upload the blockchain.

Is their a fix or an updated version?

Nice nibble reward for the solution.

Update your nodes in the .conf file of your client (if necessary, create a .conf file) and restart client. Look earlier in the thread for the nodes to be added.

My client is connected to 1 or 2 most of the time, use these:

addnode=54.200.132.23
addnode=109.10.236.54

also, you can add my client

addnode=mentat.cable.nu
or
addnode=124.189.53.150

since mine is a dynamic address from the provider, I registered with a ddns host to use the name - try using both.

Another thing, if you have the connect statement in your conf file, remove it.

What is a reasonable bet for the difficulty to reset to normal values again? I may join the mining party if it makes sense (experienced Nibble from the start).

If you read what I was saying a few posts down from yours - that is where I was making the case.  Since then I have been checking the pool block stats and have the following:

At block 39144 we were averaging 5.5 hrs per block, pool hash rate around 2.5MH - at current rate 9 months before difficulty retarget.
A week earlier when I was the only miner on the pool - hash rate around 2MH - average was 8 hrs per block - would have been 1.3 years.

In the past 9 hrs, we are at 39149 - there is or must be a solo miner out there who has solved the last 4 blocks - probably 4-5MH.

If we can get to around 10MH on the pool, we should be looking at solving 18 blocks a day - estimate 65 days to difficulty retarget.
If we can get to around 20MH on the pool, we double that, and reduce the time to about 32-33 days or so - 1 month+ which I believe is achievable.

The gains for us, if we can get enough support is explained previously that the target block time is 2.5 minutes, so our pool instead of solving 4-5 blocks a day now, we could get 576 blocks - the equivalent of 1.5BTC a day.  What does this mean?  A 2MH miner would get a return of about 0.15BTC equivalent in NBL - right now if I mine other coins with my 2MH, I get about 0.018BTC a day, so for me I think it is a good investment.

Now, I don't claim that everything will be sweet - when the difficulty readjusts, we are sure to have other miners join in - however if we are at the beginning, we reap the rewards first.  The danger is that we cannot keep the pool small and end up in the same situation with mining after 2016 blocks driving the difficulty very high again - but with mining, it is always a risk.

Ok - who's in?

What is a reasonable bet for the difficulty to reset to normal values again? I may join the mining party if it makes sense (experienced Nibble from the start).

I forgot to mention what the earnings estimate would be for a 2MH miner.

I am getting about 220NBL average a day, and my hashrate is about 2.2MH, so estimate 200NBL a day per 2MH.  This is about 0.011 BTC at current exchange rate.

As the pool gets larger, we don't necessary get more because more blocks are being solved, because we are sharing the results with the other miners - but that is my estimated return until the difficulty readjusts.

The assumption is that when the difficulty readjusts it will be at a target difficulty that allows 20MH to solve a block on average in 2.5 minutes.  At that rate  we start to get 2,880NBL a day.  This should last for about 2016 blocks until the next difficulty retarget - I am not sure what happens when huge miners join the party, but we should still be solving more blocks, so hopefully we can maintain this earning rate - I am optimistic of making about 1BTC every week or so, aren't you?  Maybe someone can check my numbers.

[Edit]  Just a couple of more points.  Most 2MH miners can mine other coins and get a return of 0.02BTC a day on average - sometimes more depending on the coin.  We don't have to be on the pool all the time - by all means, mine other coins from time to time, to keep your earnings up - just devote some hashrate to the pool and we can keep this coin going.  Don't forget - if all mining stops, the coin effectively dies because no transfers can take place, no confirmations etc, other than what is within the exchange.

Hi',
     I got a nibble wallet (0.6.5.2) & a load of nibble.

Wallet is constantly out of sync...doesn't upload the blockchain.

Is their a fix or an updated version?

Nice nibble reward for the solution.

My client is connected to 1 or 2 most of the time, use these:

addnode=54.200.132.23
addnode=109.10.236.54

also, you can add my client

addnode=mentat.cable.nu
or
addnode=124.189.53.150

Hey', JL0z.

Seems to be working but the blockchain is slower than 10 mins in the showers @ barlinnie prison.

Gonna leave it running tonite.....Fingers crossed.

Thx mate & to the others who tried to help out.

I'll get back to ya soon.

since mine is a dynamic address from the provider, I registered with a ddns host to use the name - try using both.

Another thing, if you have the connect statement in your conf file, remove it.

The blocks are coming through a little quicker now.  Revised estimate of earnings for a 2MH miner is now 280NBL a day or approx 0.015 BTC.  Block average is about 3.5 hrs per block - but this depends, some blocks can take a long time, but hopefully we can keep this up and get more miners.

Current block 39155.

40320 is when the difficulty retarget will occur - 5.6 months at the current rate, but if we can get more miners in the pool - can reduce it down to a month or so.

Hi guys, I run nbl.pnwminer.com. So far my experience is this. Things go very slow after a diff change, but when we get within about 500 blocks or so of a drop in diff, I get a LOT of people who jump on and start mining. And once the diff drops, it is usually just a matter of hours before the pool blows through all 2016 blocks at that diff. Timing varies, but it will happen.

I can not be all the time because they would lose a lot.

Please CaptainAK can invite more people to mining NBL? thanks

I know that happens, but maybe this time - some of them will stay longer and we can make good progress through the next difficulty.

Unfortunately at the current mining power, being VERY VERY generous @ 12 blocks per day, you are looking at close to 3 months for a diff adjustment.. now if you are a bit more realistic its a bit longer.  i would say you need a few 100 mh/s to get the network back on track.. and maybe make some changes to the diff retarget to try and avoid this?

You are being very generous.  I think we are averaging 11 blocks a day at present.  We were averaging 7 blocks a few days ago.  Yes, a higher hashrate would come in handy, but what we really want to do is to taper off the hashrate before the difficulty change, so that the difficulty gets easier, not harder.  But then we cannot control what other miners do when they see an opportunity to make a quick buck.

Yes, a change in the retargeting would help.

Yeah, i suppose you need to reach the balance between network hashrate and difficulty i never thought. pumping up the network would indeed leave you in the same predicament... Is the retarget based on average network hash over the past ~2000, or just the last few blocks, or what?

I don't know how the retarget works, only know when it will happen.  I am making an assumption that if the network hash rate around the time of the retarget is whatever it is, the difficulty will change to allow the blocks to be solved on average in 30 seconds - this being the target block time.  Maybe I will have a look at the source code and see if I can work it out.

gizzig,  Hi.  No, my transfers were going to Cryptsy, but the one from 2nd January is still being confirmed.  Another one from yesterday is not showing up at Cryptsy so I have changed to go to my wallet and maybe should stop the auto-transfers.

I have also opened a ticket with Cryptsy to look into this.  Is your wallet up to date?  I.e. block 39169 right now?

Yes, the link is wrong - I am looking for a block explorer for NBL - if I don't find one, I might have to install a local one.

If you check on your wallet, click on Transactions - they should appear after 1 confirmation, so the one from before 39144 should have already confirmed.  I might do a manual payment to my wallet and see what happens.  I also emailed CaptainAK.

gizzig, ok.  You can also now click on the transaction id - it will pop-up with the full transaction id.  Once we get a block explorer, we should be able to search for this transaction.  When it shows confirmed, I believe that it means that 8 blocks have occurred since the transaction, meaning it is in the blockchain.  Have a look in your wallet - you should see something there as long as your wallet is synchronized.

To check if you are on the right blockchain, go to your wallet, help, debug console, then type the command

getblockhash 39169

it should come back with the block hash which is e06d6119ba5a49941a6fc060338192c4f8d1ae6d68d6f6e64ac1d04b6373aa2a

My wallet, and maybe all wallets are a bit strange.

Now the transaction is saying Unconfirmed (2 of 6 confirmations), however in the summary, it shows the amount in the Balance, then unconfirmed is 0.00 and immature is my mined blocks.  The transfer I made should have stayed in Unconfirmed until 6 confirmations, then move to Balance - very weird behaviour.

Ok - maybe your wallet wasn't synchronizing.  I usually check by going into Help - it will show the last block and time in your local time.  Usually the last block will have come through within the past few hours.  It will also show the number of connections.  I have 1-2 connections most times.

The debug command  "getpeerinfo" will get the list of connections together with what block numbers they are reporting.  Sometimes the connection you have is a bit behind (not-sync'ed), so your wallet will be behind - which explains why you didn't see the transactions.

Yes, it may be that it is not connected, even if it showed as connected.

If you are getting the green tick, then usually this is good, unless the connections you have are all behind.  Current block is 39171 - nearly 2.5 hours now.  Sometimes need to stop and restart the wallet.

Spent a few hours tuning a smaller mining rig.  Basically 1x XFX Radeon 5850 Black Edition - was running at about 321Kh/s at standard clock rates.  It has had the heatsink and fan replaced with a Accelero Twin Turbo II from Arctic (due to previous stock fan failure) - and runs at about 61 degrees Celsius.

I had been playing around with overclocking my 7850 so wanted to do the same with the 5850.

Now I am getting a stable 369.4Kh/s - but obviously getting hotter at about 70 degrees Celsius.

If anyone is interested, the stock black edition clocks at 775 for gpu and 1125 for memory.

and my new settings are:

--shaders 1440 --thread-concurrency 5824 --gpu-engine 890 --gpu-memclock 1125 -I 18

It uses 297 Watts now - previously was I think 250 Watts.  I did try raising the memclock but it seemed to make little difference, i.e. gpu at 900 gave very little improvement in hashrate, which needed memclock to be increased - but this means the memory runs hotter, so for me it wasn't worth the extra gain.  I was trying to get it to go past 370Kh but keep temperature and power down.

I have a brand new Radeon 7870 so will now play with that.  Also trying to upgrade my Ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10 - the 13.04 says the 7870 is unsupported.

I knew I should not play around with too many things at once!  The Ubuntu 13.10 upgrade froze, and now the system doesn't boot.  The USB disk seems to be corrupted - the disk doesn't mount, and I can't access it even on a Linux notebook.  Luckily I wrote down the cgminer settings as I was working on it!  Now I will install Ubuntu 13.10 from scratch.

new developments?

As in?  NBL is still mining, albeit a bit slow.  A big storm took out internet at the pnw pool for some hours.  Then I moved back to pnw but then just now I rebooted my main rig because one 7950 was getting hot.  It seems one of the fans isn't working, so have shutdown to take the card out - maybe put in a 7870 instead.

The current block is 39250 - change in difficulty in 1070 blocks, so getting closer.

Back running on 2x 7950's for the moment, getting about 583Kh per card.  Will now work on getting the 7870 hashing properly.

Returned my MSI 7950 - they gave me a 7970 as a replacement.  Tried this in a test machine, but it is getting very very hot.  First with little hashing rate, like 300Kh at intensity 12, it kept getting hotter and hotter until maximum fan speed was reached, and kept going up - got to 94 degrees celsius before I quite cgminer.  This took about 1 minute, so guess I have to take this one back too!  Luckily I didn't stop my main mining rig to try it out - this current NBL block 39254 is taking ages - tried mining it yesterday, but had to stop, then let it run all day today and it is still working on it.

I am connected to these two nodes, then you can try myself - usually the nibble client is running 24/7 unless the laptop gets rebooted.

addnode=77.251.56.232
addnode=54.200.132.23

Mine would be

addnode=124.189.53.150

Great - good to see you add your hashrate to the pnw pool.  I am waiting for this block to finish so that I can make a hardware change on my main mining rig - swap a card.

This pool was still running yesterday

I sent in a support ticket for coinmine.  I logged in today to check on how my coins are going - all of my unconfirmed NBL are missing - not showing up anything at all.

Still no word from coinmine as yet - some of my NBL should have reached 120 confirmations by now, but balance is zero for both confirmed and unconfirmed.

Anyway, we are at block 39314, difficulty change in 1006 blocks.  Sorry it has been slow going lately - I had issues with my mining equipment with a 7950 being replaced with a 7970 that runs the fan at full speed and keeps getting throttled by cgminer and gets less hash than a 7850.  The 7970 is now sitting in its antistatic bag waiting for my 7950 to come back.  Have built another 1Mh miner, but need to wait for a case to come in so that I can run it properly.  I don't want to run an open rig like I have been doing previously so want to put the miner into the garage so that the heat and noise doesn't bother us.

No problems - we are getting through the blocks slowly - 39434 just 27 minutes ago.  Averaging at present 8 blocks a day, only 886 to go before the difficulty retarget.

Definitely, that would be a great idea.  The fork would have to happen at the end of this round of blocks, so the wait is still there, but it would be a great idea if the dev can make the changes like other coins are doing.

[Edit: The dev is digitalindustry but have no idea what time he can commit to this - let's ask him]

Do you think it's possible to change amount of blocks needed for difficulty change?

Yes, but we would have to change the source code, decide when to make the change - usually when the difficulty change is supposed to happen, which means a hard fork I suppose.  But then the updated wallet would have to distributed somehow so that everyone is using this one before it can happen.

Block 40320 is when this could happen - ideally to implement KGW, but there is no shortcuts so we still need to get through the next 804 blocks.  Currently at 39516.  If we can pool our hashing power, we could get there, but most of the time pnwminer is only running about 1.6Mh which means only about 4-8 blocks a day.  NBL is still keeping reasonable value - at 0.00002433 BTC right now, but this is a bit low due to the BTC meltdowns that have been happening and should recover some in the near future - hopefully back to around 0.00002800 BTC or so, once people's confidence in BTC goes back up.  It could go even higher - sold a few at 0.00004500 BTC only 10 days ago.

Hi - you need to add the following in your conf file

addnode=198.0.43.100
addnode=mentat.cable.nu

The second one is mine - I am keeping it running for as long as I can, pending power outages, windows updates etc.  A few days ago, I lost power for about 4 hours but generally it is running, so you can use it to get synchronized.

If you would like to help us - you can mine at the nbl.pnwminer.com pool - currently three of us there.

[Edit]  Ok, I see you were there already.  You actually don't need a wallet to mine, unless you want to solo-mine - I run a wallet so that others can keep synchronized and payout my coins to Cryptsy.

Does anyone have a working node?  My connection node stopped a couple of days ago, maybe in line with the IRS ruling, but I am stuck at block 39621 and the current block is 39627.

Also nbl.pnwminer.com has stopped mining due to this IRS ruling.  So we might not have any working pools.

I apologize for closing the pool guys. I just do not want to get caught up in any IRS crap. I WILL be leaving my nodes open for a while (probably a few months) to allow things to continue of with the Nybble chain. I also will not be removing my block explorer (or if I do I will give at least a months notice).

Thanks for mining with us and good luck in future endeavors!

Andy K. - CaptainAK

Andy,

I want to thank you for all your help while running your pools.  Can you let us know your NBL node address so that we can try to synchronize with it until we get enough people running the nodes?

-John

I will add those nodes to my wallet when I get home. I wouldn't mind to setup a pool, but I would need to rent a vps here in Portugal or Europe... it has some costs.

It will say out of sync if the last block was more than about 10 hours ago - mine does this a lot, but will eventually show the green tick when a new block is found or seen.  Current block is 39681.

No mining pools I know of are up to date.  https://www2.coinmine.pl/nbl/index.php is still at block 39678.  Cryptsy is still trading NBL so I might just try sending some NBL to Cryptsy to see if they see my transaction - if they see if, then they are up to date - but if not, then maybe some of us have forked for some reason.

Hi,

Is anyone still synchronized?  I didn't realize that my laptop had rebooted due to a Windows update a couple of days ago.  Last block seems to be 39739 from a couple of days ago.

I also tried sending some NBL to Cryptsy a few days ago, but nothing is showing up there.

[Edit]  Actually the last block was more than 3 days ago.

I put my miner on it yesterday, got 1 block yesterday - nothing today as yet.  The difficulty is very high - we really need a developer interested in doing something with this coin.  Still currently trading on Cryptsy - last price 0.00000970 BTC - I hope it goes up.

Just an observation here, but I noticed in an earlier post it was noted that the current block is 39732 (the post was on April 29). I had a transfer to Cryptsy held up for quite while recently until I started mining my own pool again. Once a block was found, the held up transaction finally went through.

I guess my point is that my pool is still on block 39700 and seems to be in sync with Cryptsy's blockchain. So is Nybble really still at 39700 or did it fork somewhere along the road?

Ok - then I guess we must have forked somewhere along the line.  My wallet shows 39745 - the same as my other peer at 185.25.148.16.

I did do some mining, but I suppose I am best to be on the same blockchain as Cryptsy, so maybe I will delete my blockchain, then exclude 185.25.148.16 and resynchronize.  Hopefully I can get back to some mining.

I renamed my Nibble folder, and created a new folder and copied the wallet.dat and the nibble.conf file - remove the 185 address from the list.  Now it is not synchronizing - no connections.

Ok - now synchronized and transferring some coins to Cryptsy.  I hope the price stays up by the time it gets there.

Hi Everyone,

About 10 hours ago, I was just checking the mining pool and noticed that the current block had jumped to 39745, when earlier in the day, it was at 39725.  I noticed that the pool found blocks were all orphaned.  Then I checked my wallet - sure enough, back to 39745.  The debug log shows that a number of blocks came through at 39679 that invalidated the previous chain.  We must have forked back then - a group of us went on to 39745, and others had gone to 39700 or so, when mining was continued to 39725.

I had moved from the 39745 blockchain because I wanted to transfer coins to Cryptsy.  Now it appears that Cryptsy is also on the 39745 blockchain.

What this means is that any transactions that occurred on the blockchain from 39679 to 39725 on the other blockchain have now disappeared, but if the wallet has sync'ed to 39745 - the transactions would resend.

The current block is now 39748 - just 15 minutes ago.

Good to hear from you "digitalindustry".

I just had a look at nbl.pnwminer.com and see a lot of miners - that is fantastic!  Current block is 39793 with hashrate rising in the past six hours - let's keep it up and get through these next 527 blocks and then the difficulty can readjust.

Everybody - let's get back on board.

[Edit: Pool hashrate 28MH/s]

We have gone through two difficulty adjustments already, first to about 1.798, and now back to 7.195.  Some big miners have been getting lots of NBL - pool hashrates have been consistently around 3-400MH/s.  I hope some of you were able to capitalize on the price hike, got up to 9999 satoshis for a short time in the past week, and now sitting around 1550 satoshis.  Some 1400NBL are being mined every hour at the current time, meaning that lots of NBL are hitting the market - you can guess what might happen to the price.

Current block 42737.
