Title: Mt Gox opens in less that 5 hours. Anyone gotten a "Recovery Success" email?
Post by: geek-trader on June 23, 2011, 10:25:38 PM
Mt Gox opens in less that 5 hours.  Has anyone gotten a "Recovery Success" email?

I "claimed" my account the first few hours it was available to do so.  I got the "We have received a recovery request for your account that pointed to this email. To verify this email and enter the recovery process, please use the link below." email (and I clicked on it's link and finished the process), but I have yet to receive a confirmation or other email from them.

When I click on the link now I get the same message as everyone else:

"Your account recovery request is pending review by our staff. Once your account has been reviewed you will be sent an email advising how to access your Mt.Gox account. We will begin sending out emails with instructions within the next 24 hours. If you do not receive the email after 48 hours (see above) please contact us so we can look into your claim request"

Anyone get anything more than this yet?

Thanks

I haven't gotten anything from 'em, and none of the friends I've asked today (about an hour ago, asked four people) has either.

Nope. Pretty sure it'd be big news here if anyone had gotten one, I think it's safe to assume none have gone out.

Considering that they've blown through every previous target date/time I think it's pretty clear they won't be opening when they predicted.

Yeah, their mistake is announcing times they can't meet, not waiting. Waiting until it's right is vital.

no.

They need to be more honest about what they're doing and how long its goind to take, they're acting like school children holding off finishing a project. We need a proper fucking time frame and some clear and definitive information, what hes given us so far is practically cryptic considering the seriousness of the situation.

I agree -- they need a PR person to deal with the public.  Running MtGox in this fashion only directs anger at the owner at a personal level.

A PR person would, I think, give steady updates, and also include within the update when we can expect the next update.  And, of course, keep to it.

how many more minutes?

From Mt.Gox:

"Users with reclaimed accounts will be able to login to Mt.Gox on Friday June 24th at 3:00 GMT (12:00 JST). Once you are logged back into the Mt.Gox site you will be able to withdraw and deposit funds as per usual. You will not be able to trade initially, but we plan to activate trading within an hour of the site being up (4:00 GMT)"

3:00 GMT = 20:00 PDT (8pm) = 23:00 EDT (11pm), so 3 hours, 3 minutes from now.

Me as well.

If I were in charge of a market that was re-opening after a dive, I might wish to ensure that I allowed the net buyers on first to get the price up to an attractive level - and then allow the net sellers to trickle in.

Of course this is just wild speculation on my part and the devious methods I'd run my exchange using are sadly, as yet, uncoded and launched.

You don't really need it until right before the open:
Between now and tomorrow at 3:00 GMT you should receive an email with instructions on how to access your account, provided you have successfully completed the reclaim process at claim.mtgox.com.

Disagree... I should have never lost access to my funds. They also missed the 48 hour deadline they set.  Apparently once you reclaim you are able to move funds, just not trade.

New site goes down and another perfect reason to delay the re-launch some more.

Cool down, my friend. What does it matter when you get your account reactivated? Even if you had it reactivated a day ago, you still won't be able to do anything until Mt. Gox reopens.

unbelievable amateurish practice.

There are actually potential reasons for what Mt. Gox is doing here. It is beneficial to security for them to wait until the last second to send out emails, to ensure that no one gets their account stolen.

Think about it. What if a scammer files a claim for an account that the legit user does not file a claim for until later? Any accounts with only one claim are much more likely to be claimed, but if an account gets multiple claims it will be scrutinized more closely by Mt. Gox's team.

It is unlikely that any new legit claims are going to come through this late in the game, but Mt. Gox presumably wants to be as secure and helpful as possible after their huge fuckup, and in the end this will make all of our accounts safer.

This sucks, but honestly Mt. Gox has handled this horribly bad situation as best as they could have as far as I can see, provided we don't take into consideration the very possible theories that Mt. Gox is using this delay time to run away from something they can't fix.

Although, considering they have proven they are still in control of the 500k~ bitcoins, this also seems unlikely.

Note: They did a bad job of handling it before the crash, clearly, when I say they've handled it as best as they could have I refer to after the shit hit the fan, aside from making deadlines they aren't meeting, which is pretty aggravating.

Rejected.

Take note that you can only submit each type of claim once.  In other words, put all your other "proof" in the first claim.  You can't keep adding proof later.  You can only prove you have one IP.

I am supposing that if you were rejected, your password was cracked and someone else is attempting to claim your account at the same time you are.

You know, they should just have an option to send your account balance back to any previously used address.  I suspect many people just want out anyway.

What?
If you received a "rejection" email, please go through the claim process again  at claim.mtgox.com and add additional account information such as the account numbers of the services you used to deposit along with the amounts. Also rejected, which is my own fault because I submitted without further proof (I only saw the "Add proof" button after I clicked submit, as it was on the bottom of the page...).

How can you chat with them?  They have an IRC room?

I was going to add my other IP and other Dwolla information but the drop down box were mission those options.

I just wonder what proof my doppelganger is giving them.  Hmm...
