Title: How to claim BCH with 2 electrum wallets on 2 computers?
Post by: RealBitKat on September 15, 2017, 01:09:22 AM
I have 2 separate electrum wallets on different computers. Both have pre-Aug 1 purchases. Cannot figure out how to claim BCH with this setup. Really have a mental block with this. Afraid of that Fyookball guy stealing my BTC.

It had been 1.5 months since the fork occurred... To my knowledge, there has not been one instance of anything untoward occurring with the "official" ElectronCash client.

The only instances of loss have occurred due to user error or people downloading binaries from unofficial sources and getting scammed.

If you're paranoid, just create a new Electrum wallet, send your coins to be addresses... Then import the old Electrum seed into ElectronCash and do whatever you want with the BCH.

If you're totally paranoid, then run ElectronCash from a live USB/CD or a Virtual Machine (Oracle VirtualBox is free btw).

Thank you HCP. Still not clear to me however. Can anyone else explain this in simple newbie terms? Can I combine the 2 wallets somehow? Then how to remove old wallet? I tried and could not.

BitCoin will never catch on mainstream because it is far too difficult to buy, store and use.  >:( The average person does not have the time to deal with it. Techies are only a small percentage of the population. Not worth it to the rest of us.

What isn't clear?

Step 1. Create a new Electrum wallet.
Step 2. Send BTC coins from old wallet #1 to new wallet.
Step 3. Send BTC coins from old wallet #2 to new wallet.
Step 4. Create a new ElectronCash wallet #1 using seed from old Electrum wallet #1.
Step 5. Create a new ElectronCash wallet #2 using seed from old Electrum wallet #2.
Step 6. Create a new ElectronCash wallet #3.
Step 7. Send BCH coins from ElectronCash wallet #1 to ElectronCash #3.
Step 8. Send BCH coins from ElectronCash wallet #2 to ElectronCash #3.

You now have new Electrum wallet with all your BTC and ElectronCash wallet #3 that has all your BCH. :)

Thks a lot HCP for the clear summary, I did it for a single wallet and it worked perfectly.
This is the link I used for the clean electron cash wallet: https://electroncash.org/
