Title: Beginner in mining, looking to use GekkoScience 2Pac
Post by: TommyBoy1980 on September 15, 2017, 11:08:08 AM
Hi All,

I'm relatively new to the mining of currencies world (I've recently purchased currency XRP, USDT, REP), I've played around with minerGate to use my CPU (on my mac) but not seeing much gains so was looking to start myself with a small setup using GekkoScience 2Pac USB miner and Raspberry Pi and gradually build up then once I've learnt a bit more.

But I wondering if the GekkoScience 2Pac can mine other algo's apart from SHA256 like XMR, Steem, NXS, SC? If not are there other recommended USB miners which can?

Also apologies if in wrong forum.

Thanks,
Tom

No, the 2PAC is an ASIC, it can only mine sha256d coins like bitcoin, BCC, peercoin,...

If you're looking specifically for usb miners for other algo's, i can only say there are some usb miners for scrypt available (moonlander). But, just like the 2PAC, the moonlander is an ASIC, so it can ONLY be used to mine scrypt coins (LTC, DOGE,...)

Cheers for the help, another question would either one of these USB work plug into a MacBook Pro to start with?

As was thinking of a Raspberry Pi setup connected to multi USB connector

I don't own any apple products, but afaik, you should be able to get them hashing using an usb miner.

About a usb hub: be carefull, most of these miners have a power draw of several watts, it's best to go for a powered usb hub.

Also, you do have to realise it's very hard ( if not impossible) to roi with these devices. I would advice against buying loads of them if you want to mine profitably...
