Title: Drop on cards
Post by: CryptoSquad on September 16, 2017, 01:54:16 PM
Hi.

Using RX 580's and a custom bios. Not getting any crashes using Claymore miner, and not getting any hardware errors in HWINFO

However every now and then one of my cards (can be a different card each time) drops its hash rate to a fairly low figure. It bounces up again, but of course this is effecting my average and reported hash rate.

my temps are all good, sitting nicely between 65-72.

What might cause this?

You many need to increase the power limit in the MSI afterburner.

It's currently at 0. What's a safe setting to put this on? Right now whilst trying to get it stable I don't mind my power usage

Thanks

often times every card has different mining behavior, are all of your cards identical? if yes, you may check your risers, try to swap them with other cards, or try to swap them with PCI-e slots, I don't think its a power limit issue. check also if the average drop bouncing up is acceptable, if yes then no need to fix, just remember not to fix if aint broken ;D

Could happen due to overclocking / using your custom Bios. Start gradually increasing the power limit so your GPU can consume more power, in order to stabilize your GPU's functioning / hashrate. You could use the MSI Afterburner or the AMD's software. Both will do the trick.

Is it always the same card or can you tell? The only thing I can think is that the way that work is being handed out that not every card is working on every workgroup. In other words, Perhaps it is being handed out to the cards at a different rate or following some standard or protocol in the software.

Sometimes it's just ms share issues I wouldn't be too concerned unless it's happening very often

I suppose this would still be true even if it was the same card every time.
Obviously if there was something critically wrong that the card would never reach a higher rate.
