Title: Sapphire 5870 Intel MB ... keep replacing all the time... recommendations ? Post by: thedrs on June 24, 2011, 03:12:16 PM Hi All,
I am mining using a Sapphire 5870 on a win7/x64 OS. http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?psn=0001&pid=287 (http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?psn=0001&pid=287) I have a core i3 2100 CPU. My current MB is (was) Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3765#ov (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3765#ov)) I use the computer for 24/7 mining plus as a home computer. The problem is that this card heats up so much it freezes the system because it heats up the MB chipset. I changed a few Chasis configurations, but when mining (even without OC @ 850Mhz) the system will freeze after 24-48 hours. When I checked the MB temps I saw that it reaches the 50 deg. C, the gfx card itself can handle its own heat whether it is 65C or 85C. The only solution I found was to open the side of the case and put a big house fan there 24/7. But even in this configuration, which gives me ~43C on MB and ~65C on gfx card, after 2 weeks my MB died. Before this MB (P67A-UD3-B3) I had a Gigabyte H67-D2H-B3 which acted the same. I don't want to invest in an MB that can handle 3-4 gfx cards as i have only one, can some one with a similar gfx card recommend anything they are using ? Post by: fascistmuffin on June 24, 2011, 03:32:35 PM I just looked at the motherboard on Newegg for reviews and saw that it is one crappy motherboard (31% 1/5 reviews, that's pretty bad). From what I read there, I doubt it's the graphics card causing the problems. I doubt it's even heat issues, rather an unstable motherboard.
Does this sound like your situation?: Quote ...Second: Once I finally get the computer on and working properly, it randomly crashes. The display freezes or goes black, and I have to restart the computer (running into the reboot loop while i do). Third: After going to sleep mode, several issues arise, from either the keyboard not working to the display not working... The situation described is exactly what i experienced. Now the MB is dead and I am looking for a new one.... any one out there with a sapphire 5870 and can recommend a good MB ? this one has been able to handle a 5830 overclocked to 1025mhz for weeks on end http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157228 Title: Re: Sapphire 5870 Intel MB ... keep replacing all the time... recommendations ? (even though i am looking for a s1156 board, i would like to see if your board has the MB heatsink right under the GPU like most boards do)
Title: Re: Sapphire 5870 Intel MB ... keep replacing all the time... recommendations ? Post by: Salzgitter on July 04, 2011, 07:37:00 AM Hey there,
in my rig, i have three XFX 5870s on a MSI P7N Diamond. Running fine for three weeks now. But I have to admit, it's inside an old bigtower case with a couple of fans in the side panel and a 120mm fan in the Front thats blowing out hot air. Board is 100% stable though. In my work PC, I recently had problems with my mainboard too. My 5 year old Intel DG956WH became unstable and finally broke, i think the northbridge heated up to much by the single 5870 directly beneath it. Now I bought a cheap Asrock P5B-DE, because I just got my Q6600 Intel quadcore some weeks ago, and didnt wanna go all the way to buy new processor, DDR3 memory and so on.... As a precaution I although installed two 120mm fans in the case. Hope the board will last another 5 years now ;) Title: Re: Sapphire 5870 Intel MB ... keep replacing all the time... recommendations ? I run a fan directly over my northbridge and would have at least 2 intakes and 2 exhaust fans for this kind of work. GPU's make for some nice space heaters. Post by: thedrs on July 05, 2011, 09:12:04 PM I used to have a case with 2xIN 2xOUT (all were 80cm) - didn't work.
Now i have 1xIN 1xOUT (all 120cm) + open the side panel and put a big house fan at max speed blowing in air - doesn't work. I think the MB is not designed to work at high temp (even though my mb is at ~42-44C). |
