Title: PoolMunity.com - ~2BTC bounty inside! pool shutdown + selling sourcecode
Post by: talpan on June 24, 2011, 06:34:09 PM
Hello,

I want to introduce my new pool, here are some basics about PoolMunity (https://poolmunity.com).

I know the design isn't really good, but I hope I can change this soon!
Currently I take a fee of 1,5% of every block.
With this fee I'll make giveaways, pay the server
and eventually hire a professional webdesigner.

Features: - SSL
             - powerful dedicated server
             - multiple workers
             - stable server location in france
             - API (json)
             - periodic giveaways!
             - INSTANT payout (min 0.1BTC)
             - banner with your stats
             - IRC support
             - email alerts on idle miner
             - charts
             - embedded Forum
             - 8 decimals are used for payouts
             - Coins are stored internally as integers for 100% accuracy
             - You can choose between Bitcoin and Namecoin
             - cheat-proof scoring
             - mining on port 80

regards, talpan

I will donate 50% of my block earnings to the block finder. At the moment ~ 2.15BTC

come and join us! cheat proof scoring system, later shares are no disadvantage

Hello,

I knew it wouldn't be easy starting a new pool, but I don't know what's going.
What do you expect from my pool?
Are there any features that you want to have?

I really would appreciate some feedback :).

The site's security certificate is not trusted!
You attempted to reach poolmunity.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site.

It's no security issue, I haven't got a signed SSL certificate yet (it costs about 40$ per year).
I have made myself a certificate which lacks in no way compared to a signed certificate.
Of course, if you don't trust me, you can google it ;).

Except that it totally lacks any point AT ALL?
Anyone can generate self-signed certs for your domain, and still do MIMT-attacks and similar?

The whole idea with SSL is worthless then, stop using it or do it right.
Take a look at StartSSL or similar (or just pay $9 to get one from namecheap.com - it's not THAT expensive.)

Hello,

I have great news.
I've updated the software to V2.0.
You can now choose between Bitcoind and Namecoin.
I hope you enjoy it, more updates comming soon!

regards, talpan

Edit: And we have now signed SSL Certs, thanks for the tip Jine :).

Not true, it ensures that no eavesdropping can occur between the server you are communicating to/from, assuming dns is trusted. If you import that cert, you'll know something is up if it changes.  A signed by trusted CA cert would make masquerading attacks more obvious. However, no one will take the trouble for a small pool.
Anyway, startssl.com provides free certs. I'm not affiliated with them.

Hello,

in fact I did buy a signed SSl certificate and sadly startssl.com had a view issues and
they are not giving away free SSL certs currently.
But thanks for the hint.

I'm mining BTC on bitcoins.lc with my PC and Mac GPUs.I get 400M/Hashs (sometimes) doing this.My MacBook Pros CPU is mining namecoins with your pool. Why do I do this? I seek to gain maximum returns on multiple currencies being mined at the same time to prevent missed oppourtunity problems as I'm not yet ready to move into full time NMC mining due to my current setup and limited access to systems outside where I live as the workplace is too far away to use their computers.

My radeon HD 6950 get me 384MHash/s at these settings:
Clock 890MHZ
mem clock 948 MHZ
Volts is 1.1V currently

To get stable clocks at more than 900MHZ+,how much do u need to increase the voltage by to be safe without damaging the card or crashing my system? Thanks.

HI film2240 and welcome,

sorry I can't help you overclocking your card, but I can tell you,
that all (iirc) 6950 are in principle a hd6970 and you can flash the bios
and gain more speed.
And a little note to cpu mining, especially on a macbook,
sadly the results are not worth mentioning.
They consume more power than bring you something.

Hey Talpan,

Thanks for the mail regarding the stales I had with Phoenix.
I didn't look at the stales because I never had more than 0,5% stales on BTCmin.

Now with "poclbm" my hardware output on my HD5770 increased from 207 to 213Mhash/s and no stales so far!

you store passwords as plaintext  :o
and then you e-mail the password to the person who created the account

there's a few reasons why that's dangerous:
1. if your db gets hacked people's passwords are accessible to the hacker which they use for other sites
2. if my e-mail gets hacked my password is accessible to the hacker which I use for other sites

imagine if Mt.Gox was storing plaintext passwords

Hi,

I do not store the passwords as plaintext.
Only the worker passwords are stored as plaintext,
an attacker could only submit you some hashes :).

ok, but you send them as plaintext to my e-mail  ::)

Let me explain to you how it works:
1. you create a new account and type in the password
2. everything is checked
3. an email is send with your plaintext password
4. the password is encrypted and stored in the database

Now, if you forgot your password, you have to enter a new password,
the old one will not be send to you as plaintext.

;)

yeah, so if my e-mail gets compromised they'll get to change the address my reward is sent to as well
never quite liked the sites that send me my password because I have to make sure to delete the e-mail, clear my trash, etc.

Hi,

and welcome.
If you open up the main forum page you'll see at the bootom of the page
the total numbers of members registered.
However the memberlist itself doesn't count members, who haven't
activated their account yet.
If they do not activate with in a reasonable time, I'm going to adjust the
fees manually.

edit: I've deleted 3 spam registration.

PS: now let's hit that long block ;)

Awesome,  I think you should also make a requirement for power contributions too.  IE: 100mhps minimum to reap the benefit.  Just a suggestion.  This way you might get more big contributors.

edit:  I just realized what you meant.  so unactivated accounts will still take priority for the 0% once they become active? Instead of my active account currently working at 300mphs?   ???  that seems a bit off

I just put in a few extra Mhash to speed up things a bit...

One question: when I set a "payout treshold" it doesn't payout, while it's way beyond treshold.
If I click "instant payout" it pays out, so it doesn't really matter but maybe you can take a look at it  ;D

Hello,

I'm proud to announce that we will launch a Bitcoin/Namecoin exchange.
It should be finished by tomorrow, or at least by monday.
I'm planning on taking a fee of 0.1% of every transactions.

I'll probably give some little status updates.

regards, talpan

It is active effective immediately.

Sweet! That's my favourite too. Inaba from EclipseMC has some teething problems with it though - apparently it has to manage some very large numbers. You might want to PM him for advice.

Please join us guys, if you want a "cheatproof" pool :)

Stales are very low!

@ Talpan
I think "merged mining" is the future of both BTC and NC, will Poolmunity be the first to enable "merged mining" as soon as it is available?

Definitely, I've already looked into it and I'm amazed of the concept.
But with the current rate the namecoin blocks are mined this could take a while.

Currently I'm finishing our own Bitcoin/Namecoin exchange, should be finished on saturday :).
May be some more miners come to our pool mine some coins  ;).

Hello,

I'm proud to announce that I finally finished our own Bitcoin/Namecoin exchange.
You can now trade Bitcoins and Namecoins with a fee low as 0.1%.
The minimum amount for a new offer is 0.1BTC/NC.

In order to prevent some errors that might occur, outgoing payments are delayed for 1-2 days.

Happy trading, talpan :)

This is really a facepalm worth.

beware, my esitmated rewards went from 0.07 to 0 in a day. So the system is somewhat sketchy. (I have stopped mining with it and went back to deepbit).

Hello,

this can't be.
I'd suggest you write me a pm, before you put out something like this.

Hello Miners,

since the pool isn't getting any traffic, I'm shutting it down.
This will happen at the first of september.

And as a quick reminder  there is a ~2BTC bounty for the current and probably last bitcoinblock.

I'm going to sell the poolsoftware and if required the domain too.
If you are interested write an email to talpan@poolmunity.com with your offer
in bitcoins.

Regards,
The PoolMunity Team.

The calculator will be used again in my new project, more details next month :).

And I've created a thread with some more information about the poolsoftware, which I'm selling.
