Here I am not talking about any new releases within the last 10 years. For any game to make your list they must be at least 10 years old, if they are younger they simply do not count. Do we have some old timers in here?

My top 10 favourite retro games older than 10 years are:

• 1. Doom 1
• 2. Quake 2
• 3. Counter Strike 1.3 (preferably the older versions)
• 4. The Sims (The first)
• 5. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (torn between 1 and 2 here)
• 6. Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne
• 7. Black & White (Best God Game period!)
• 8. Wolfenstein 3D (classic! and the one that really got the FPS genre started - how can anyone forget that?)
• 9. Red Alert 1 (good memories playing against my dad in this and friends online on 56k modems)
• 10. Theme Hospital (I like organising things)

Counter strke 1.6 ist the best Retro game! Played soooooooooo long man! Good old times :D

Hitman is an awesome classic!

Loved to play Red Alert in college. I like Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun even better though.

Absolutely! I still play Mario on my NES tbh :) THE best GTA game was the 2nd one AND the first 3D one - that experience of being able to go around in a real sandbox world game like that, was awesome, especially when taking into account that we had been used to a top-down version up until then.

90s were the best! AND the early 00s :)

I love street fighter the arcade one, would love to play arcade games again. Shops closed a few years ago in my city.

My favorite would be tetris, metal slug, and Lego island. When I was a kid, these games really curbed my imagination because back then, we can only afford to buy a PS1 and not toys. Still, they're tons of fun especially Lego Island. Tetris kind of helped my build up my spatial reasoning.

My all time favourite game is definetly warcraft 3. I still play it with my friends sometimes.

I also played Counter strike 1.6 for a long while back when I was in primary school. Back then I was hoping to become a proffessional gamer.

Also, the last but for sure not least game that I loved and I will always love is super mario bros. I remember playing it on my sega console ever since I was around 4 years old. Every day, when I got home from the kindergarden, I just plugged in my game and play that game with my best friend until the parents would stop us.

Original super Mario bros, 1,2, and 3! Also Sonic the Hedgehog, and the Myst series.

Just to name a few. The Dreamcast was always a personal favorite and N64 just had an incredible amount of great games.

Mafia, Mario, you can still recall a few quest and logical, it was cool to play on pixels, inexpressibly, not like what is now in the game.

I always enjoyed playing tough games like Metroid and Megaman. Ha those were the good ol days :D

Prince of Persia is my favorite retro game... It's been there since the beginning of PC... during the Floppy Disks are still being used as a data storage... I missed those days.

You have an excellent list of retro games on your PC. But if you say simple games, then I liked the games on NES, such as Super Mario and Battle City.

The Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition - GameCube is the best

I remember it was a cool computer game called something like Poker Club. It was popular when all used Windows 95.

I like the old atari games like Frogger. I also love all Mario Kart games! I've played them all, and love them. In fact, I'm going to get one out right now and just have some fun! I haven't had some fun, it's been all work and no play for too long...

I loved the Quake 3 fun maps.

But depending on how retro we're talking, I'd have to go with the Mario games for each console up to the N64.

Mario 64 was quite insane when it came out. Jumping into those paintings was just surreal.

Ohh.. I was so young and innocent human being when I first saw it. It flashes back my fairy childhood memories. The fact I may operate a character on TV screen amazed me much, still stuck with it a bit. That is why I watch NERD episodes sometimes  :)

We need a new word to replace retro. That word is kind of annoying. Why not, "What is your favorite old game?"

I guess to me they are all video games, and the word Retro makes it sound as if they're supposed to be different. While older game perfectly describes what they are.

But I guess I'm stuck with the word retro.

To be fair, the word is used wrongly in this OP title anyways.

If I created a new game today that is similar to an older game, it would be a retro game.

But old games are not retro as long as they were not trying to emulate an even older game.


People just use words without understanding their meaning all the time, and retro is just one example. People literally use "literally" in the wrong way all the time as well, to a point where the word has pretty much lost all of its meaning. But what can you do. :)

Zombies ate my neighbors was classic, I remember getting it for ten bucks at kb toy stores. Played it all summer in 93 or 94. Now I'm old and just go to work

I remember one - can't remember the name - but the object was to set up traps in a castle and try to lure the visitors into the various traps. I think your character was a ghost or something.

 I loved balloon fight!!!! It was the best! Two player when your little brother wants to win was never fun because he always popped my balloons! We still have an NES and a ton of games!!!!
