I can confirm this is the real deal.

Fully automated, quick moving rounds, and very low fee.

Just avoid the "Pay with MyBitcoins Account" button and you'll be fine.  It is a bug in their API, and those bets will have a chance to be lost to the void.

Come join now!  Plenty of time left to double up!

I think the problem before was that he was using SQLite, and people were using MyBitcoin wallet instead of the client app.

For the record, I used MyBitcoin Wallet for that the whole time and it worked fine, but the SQLite was a huge mistake. I've recouped my losses at least. Feel free to payout that 2nd round if you see this post though! (To NothinG)

That happened to me with .3BTC. I'm hoping that MyBitcoin will return the voided bitcoins, but I'm not too optimistic. Herb sure doesn't have them.

Payer:   Bitcoin P2P Network
Payee:   herbertfilby

Payment Note:   ORPHAN PAYMENT FROM SCI - CUSTOMER OVERPAID

That's due to someone not paying exactly the same amount that was asked of them. They are probably new and added the transaction fee manually. It should automatically refund them after 24 hours... but this is not a hack.

This is the same person that overpaid I believe, so there are no bugs.

I also eliminated the drop down betting, so you can enter any amount between 0.1 and 2.0

Figure that's a low enough spread not to freeze the round.

Some news. I'm making a second game on the site for high-rollers.

- 1 to 3 min/max bets
- 1 hour game
- Starts and ends on half past the hour (ie. 2:30pm-3:30pm) every hour

Will give out 1.2x your bet...

The lower multiplier makes the game less risky and will hopefully last longer.

Again, last person in line gets the remaining pot.

I will post the link once I am sure the payout script is working.

The fact that it's hourly and automated I think is enough to satisfy most people.

That's what this game has over all others in this forum... There's no waits for payments because it's all automatic.

I tried playing on a few hour games; and it just goes too fast. I think for starting out the game should last about 3-6hours at a time. Once it gets more popular, then 1 hour games would be awesome.

NothinG may have a point. Hmm, perhaps let this run a few days, and if it picks up more, great! If not, keep 1hr rounds for the times a lot of people play, and elongate others, e.g, a 7pm round that lasts till 10.

I disagree. There are PLENTY of other games around to choose from that last longer.

This is good for people who actually want to play a shorter one.

Look at the entries per round, its like 1-2 entries. Make it longer duration and you'll get more bites.

I feel like short rounds work around midnight and such, but longer rounds would work for other times. Leave it for a few days to gather data, then alter (if you want) as needed. Also, Herb, it may be redundant, but you may want to copypaste and create a new thread about King Of The Mountain separate from the KOTH one. Frankly, no-one seems to know about KOTM, and a new thread may help to spread the news about it. I'll do it if you'd like, I just didn't want to create a post using your game and your words without throwing it out here first.

1. I will consider making Mountain 6, 12 or 24 hours, but if I do, I will bump the minimum back up to 3 if that is the case. Small betters can stick to Hill
Let me know what you guys think would be appropriate haha

2. I didn't create a new thread for Mountain just because so many people have Doubler games now I feel that I would be spamming. Since the games are so similar, I figured if anyone has problems with one, they could easily find me here to tell me about it rather than mucking about in 2 different threads.

This seems like a good idea. It's sad to see these polished solutions get beaten by dime-a-dozen  spreadsheets that are spamming up this forum. I almost feel like those should be restricted.

Seriously, I don't see how those spreadsheet ones are so popular. You have to hope the guy running them isn't a scammer. Here, mine is all automated, and you don't have to wait for me to send you payment.

I will extend King of the Mountain and make a new topic for it later tonight. Maybe that will entice people.

Yup i thought this one would be more popular too  ???. But what i really don't like about these automated games is that you have to use mybitcoin to send payments, it really slows you up. I know why its necessary but i rather see something like betcoin.eu, just sent your amount to an address and it automatically shows up.

Well, at spreadsheet ones you have a human operator, have a nice experience, probably get a refund if you screwed up. In automated ones it's still possible that the guy running them is a scammer, though the risk is lower. Or it can be hacked. Or whatever.

I think I'll play yours though ;)

True, i like the personal touch with the spreadsheats too :).

question:  Although the system says game has been stopped 1 minute prior to ending, it appears that bids are still entered during that minute. I watched 2 bids register over the course of that minute.  Is this correct?  Or was it just delayed registry of entries before that minute mark?

Title: Re: King of the Hill - Automated Bitcoin Doubler (Rounds Start Every Hour)

Come on people, let's keep this moving. We don't want another dead round!

Also, I think we should return to the older "fixed-value" system, and possibly drop the multiplier to 1.9x in order to prevent "zeroing" of the pot, which people seem to use to avoid taking a loss on their investment. It makes pot distribution at the end frequently 0, which quite frankly, kills the whole round.

EDIT: There seems to be something up with the pool. This one person keeps sniping at impossibly early times, and this time, they got a bet in before the round even began. The round always begins 16 seconds in, and yet this person got something in at 14. I'm inclined to call foul on this.

2011-06-27 04:00:14

We need a secondary captcha. After sending your payment, you must solve a captcha that is the same to everyone on the site.

Title: Re: King of the Hill - Automated Bitcoin Doubler (Rounds Start Every Hour)
Post by: herbertfilby on June 27, 2011, 04:22:33 PM
The 15 second buffer time was set up to prevent anyone from placing a bid while the end-game script was running. It seems that people are hovering on the MyBitcoin page (which I have no control over) until 5-10 seconds after the game starts and throw in a bet early, at the risk that they could lose their bet while the end-game is processing... I don't really have a way to prevent people from doing this, and they do so at the risk of losing their money.

I feel that a second captcha would discourage a lot of people because it's an extra step. Most people aren't playing just because they have to pay through MyBitcoin and for some reason that makes them feel like it's too much work  ::)

For long term non-sniping games, I recommend King of the Mountain, otherwise, King of the Hill is good for people who don't mind fast-paced sniping rounds.

I offer both in the hopes that I have something for everybody.

You could prevent the above by having the GAME ID as part of the form data. So they have to wait for a round to start before submitting the form which takes them to mybitcoin.com.

eg, form says <input type="hidden" name="gameid" value="7"> so if they hit that submit button at the end of game 7, hoping to get in quick at the start of game 8, then it'll just ignore that payment because it came from game 7.

People will still have to race, but they won't be able to prepare for the race until the game has actually started...

Title: Re: King of the Hill - Automated Bitcoin Doubler (Rounds Start Every Hour)
Post by: herbertfilby on June 27, 2011, 04:40:18 PM
I was thinking about doing that, but the only problem is that their payment WON'T count towards the last game if they submit it after the end-game processing script is run, because the last person in line will get the remaining pot... And their bet won't count towards the new game, because it's marked for the previous round... So their bet will essentially turn into a donation for me, and I feel that in a game of sniping, too many people would end up losing their money and blame me for it.

You could do some stuff with partial association. if($currentRound != $paymentRound), $pot += $bet

Toss those bets into the pot if the round ID doesn't match.

That's no different than what it's doing now.

Are you saying, put the money into the pot, but don't give that person a place in line? Would discourage cheaters.....

Exactly. Of course, we'd have to prevent a positive  pot from forming (everyone paid out, but coins still in the pot).

if($everyone_paid == 1){
   pay_operator($pot);
}

Well, the way it's programmed, the extra pot would go towards people's doubles or the End-Game last person in line, not me.

Well, the way it's programmed, the extra pot would go towards people's doubles or the End-Game last person in line, not me.

The scenario I'm talking about would be one where everyone is paid out, and whoever bids next gets doubled if they put in 50% of the pot. We don't want that scenario to occur, due to the potential for abuse.

Another possibility is to have all voided entries go towards a bitcoin lottery jackpot.

I am a bit confused on the King of the Mountain game.  The rules state it is an hourly game, however here it states it is 24 hours and the page time shows 24 hour game(and this is what I thought it was changed to).  At the end of countdown it said it was resetting the game, I put a payment in after 20 seconds+ (registered at 34) and then the game reloaded with all previous bets in place and the timer reset, while my bet is at the bottom.  Did I miss something?

Sorry you got caught up in this, we're on IRC now in #bitcoin-koth on freenode. There seems to be a bug that occurs when both kotm and koth end at the same time, leading to neither ending.

Right now, the current solution:

HerbertFilby:  ok, I will extend King of the Mountain for another 23 hours so people in the chain that bet 3.0 will have a chance to get multiplied, and king of the Hill should be fine at 1am EDT in 50 minutes
[12:11AM] HerbertFilby: I will tweak the cron settings so the games are not executing at the same time, offset it by like a minute
[12:11AM] HerbertFilby: then we will see how tomorrow goes

Title: Re: King of the Hill - Automated Bitcoin Doubler (Rounds Start Every Hour)
Post by: herbertfilby on June 28, 2011, 04:27:56 AM
Yeah, we had a glitch at midnight. When both games were trying to reset, it in fact executed NONE of the resets, which is just odd... I reset the timer on King of the Mountain so that it now ends 1 minute past midnight every night. Hopefully this bug won't happen again.

Nobody lost their funds, but the round didn't reset like it was supposed to, so the game essentially was extended by 24 hours.

Wouldn't it help if you ran both games on different databases?

Just make 2 copies of the games in different locations.
I know it's not exactly a fix, but could help keep the game running smoothly until the problem is corrected.

Either way, it works now.

Yeah I think it was that both Cron jobs were trying to run at the same time. I offset the mountain game by 1 minute, so should be good tonight.

I would hold off sniping on King of the Mountain's new game tonight after 12:01am EDT, just in case. If the game STILL doesn't end, I will do it manually. Then you can feel free to go nuts. I will be in the chat tonight around that time to give everyone status updates on what's going on.

No no,
King of the Mountain is long-term. King of the Hill is more fast paced for snipers.

Best of both worlds.

If you don't like sniping, I suggest King of the Mountain because most people get multiplied throughout the day

EDIT: Both games are running just fine now. No problems now that I've offset them by a minute. Go Game!

Lol, no.  18 seconds is confirmed to be impossible as a "valid" bet.  The script takes 16 seconds to run, and bets that get to the address before this are either applied to previous round or lost to the void.  MBC + the bet script takes between 5-15 seconds to confirm the payment and place your bet in to the database.

You obviously have figured out the exact second to send your payment to ensure first play each time.

I think the problem is that the "ponzi games" have lost their appeal to most people.... all of the ones I read about have little to no interest.

The problem is not that it's a "ponzi games", but instead there are too many with a limited about of players.

The only suggestions I have is to give the design a facelift, then start working on your search engine ranking. Once the SEO is pending, start doing some research on old ponzi type communities and contact the admin and see how much they charge for advertisement or maybe even a mass mail campaign. This will also help spread the BitCoin movement. It's not hard to get them to use BitCoin, since most of them already using eGold and LR.

I believe the entry is processed as soon as mybitcoin sees the transaction come across (doesn't wait for confirmations).... so it shouldn't ever be an issue unless you try to send while not connected to the network.

using the client I usually have 8 connections

last week I had two payments which didn't get a single confirmtation for hours

one was a very small one 0.002 if remember correctly the other one more then 5 BTC

in the counter client there were no "grey" unconfirmed payments either till the first confirmaton showed up in the sending client, so I doubt that there is no problem...

I was making so much money, my bank called me up interrogating me. I was like "WTF?? You think i'm printing fake checks from my home computer or something??"

Then the lady responds with "Well, I don't know, you tell me!"
lol

She asked, who was my employer, and I said " I don't know, his name is John something"
She goes "YOU DONT KNOW WHO YOUR EMPLOYER??!?!"

I was pretty heated at the time, but thinking back it's kind of funny lol

It was an interesting scheme... From what I could remember, it took about 3 months to break even to get your money back, and then everything after that was pure profit. I got in about 1 year before they quit paying people. Didn't make a ton, but would have been nice if they'd kept it going for just a few more months :P

So you have a 20% chance of winning 2x? That's very low odds.

BTC Riches is basically 'just a number', it's a 1 in 8 chance of winning 7x.

It's not that people lost interest, i mean there are other games out there that is dominating. There one problem you need to fix if you're going to keep it such short ending. If you look at the time people place their bets, they done it within a few seconds from when the round started. However, making it last a week wouldn't be a bad idea.

hey herbert, maybe reconsider closing koth and make them both variable ending times with at least a couple days like mtrev is talking about and have hill as low roller and mountain as high roller.  Maybe lower the ratio from 2x down a bit to maybe like 1.5-1.75?  He's got a point, and unlike the other automated ones, yours is completely developed already with everything worked out and safe.

is the "Last Round" link on the page not supposed to show anything other than the table headers?  I would really like to know what the level of participation looked like in the previous round so I have a good idea of if I should jump in or not.

I only have 3.27 BTC to my name, and this just seems risky.  HOWEVER, the current round DID start this past night/morning, so my chances of getting a return "seem" good, eventhough that return would only be 1.5 BTC on top of the initial 3 BTC I put in.

Just look at archives because the last few rounds were dead for an unknown reason (no one participated).  It was really popular and then declined as the "age of DT" games came to an end and then now begins to grow again.

Wow, haha, I'm surprised to see this one going so strong :D

I haven't received any complaints, so I assume everyone is getting paid automatically. Thanks for the support all :D Glad this game finally got some momentum.

Yeah, as for the "last game" link, that is empty because the last game didn't have any players. Archives is more complete.

The 1.5x multiplier is nice for KotM because 3/4 of people are getting paid back instead of having the game stall out in the first few rounds, so I'm happy everyone is getting something back quickly. Tell your friends :D

Yeah this game is really cool, glad lots of ppl are playing! Everyone else, play right now early sign up = quicker payback.

people are waiting for the final few minutes in an attempt to be the last bidder, i guess.

I'm not bidding because I only have 5 bitcoins at the moment.  Will probably wait and see if and when bids start coming in near the end of this weeks game before I decide to bid.

The minimum bet is also very high. I know when I first started getting into these games 1 BTC was either far more than I had available, or would result in all my money being gone.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a bunch of bids at the end, considering how many people are in this round... And even if you don't get multiplied this week, you can always make up for it by getting in early next week  :)

actually that is quite a good analogy.  As the snowball gets larger (larger winnings), more people are needed to help push it up the hill (fill in the bids of earlier bidders).  BUT, whomever is the LAST person to join in with helping push it gets to ride it all the way down the hill (wins the remaining pot at the end).

Also, fixed topic title.

That was me.  For the first 20 minutes or so of the new round, it read Time Left: 0.  But then it was working, so I assumed you got my PM and fixed it.   ;D

Game has been problem free.  I put BTC in and got paid.  Now we just need a few more players!

I'm glad it's  been working out for everyone.

The timer at the top of the page seems to be buggy at the beginning of a new round and still says 0 for a few minutes after the new round begins....
Don't worry about that. It's more aesthetic and does not influence the game itself. All of the game's processing takes place behind the scenes in a separate script.

You'll know that a new round has started if you refresh the home page and the previous round has been cleared. Your bets will work like always.

The new game should start around 12:00:15 am EDT. Don't place any bets unless you clearly see that the previous round has cleared.

I am working on the timer script to figure out why it's buggy...I think it has to do with the switch from one week to the next at midnight. I'll keep you all updated if I manage to figure out what the deal is.

The bets are pretty steep.  You and I know how to play these games, but to a noob, 1BTC minimum is a lot.

That said:

Plenty of time left!  Enter and WIN!!!!

Hopefully this will spark more interest for people who don't have a lot to bet starting out.

There are several threads in the "main" area, but it's gone, no one knows why, the rest is speculation.

I hope you didn't lose too many BTC, man.  I like your game, I hope you can find a way to keep it going.

Game is suspended until we hear something about this. Goddamnitalltohell. I've lost everything  >:(

I will pay back the last person in line if the service ever comes back, but I don't have any bitcoins left personally to pay it back now. Everything I had was in mybitcoin, which thankfully wasn't more than $20. But still.... F*ck.

Ouch. Yeah, considering how much I paid for the source code and paying people for screwups, I've probably lost about 20 btc total running this game. All the fees I would have gotten were still in mybitcoin so those are all gone.

Like I said, all the money was lost when MyBitcoin.com went down, so I don't have the money to pay the last person on the list. If the service comes back I will, but this was a problem beyond my control.
