Title: Bitcoin Fork
Post by: alwaysapps on October 03, 2017, 01:48:07 AM
Any information to verify this statement.

" Those holding BTC during the fork (from Oct 25th to Nov 1st) will be eligible for free BitcoinGold."

Thanks

Yes this is true. A fork by definition means you will get the same balance of bitcoin gold in your existing bitcoin addresses.

Thanks.  Could you suggest the best place to hold at the time, if a fork were to occur or do we need to wait until confirmation and announcements upon who will adopt.

Going off the BitcoinCash Fork, only some exchange and wallets were to adopt the fork and issue the new coins.

If this Fork was to be confirmed.  Would you agree in saying that, plenty of people will buy bitcoin and be holding BTC leading up to the Fork just to get the equivalent in BitcoinGold.   ?

Do you remember the previous fork this year when bitcoin split into two and that is BTC and BCH. Those who have a btc on the exchanges have received an equivalent amount of BCH on their balance after the fork. The same thing will happen to the fork , after the fork those who have balance on the exchanges will also receive the same amount of coins in the form of BTC Gold.

Guys,

Is Bitcoin Gold "segwit2x"? Why am I hearing dates for October, and November? Are there TWO forks incoming?

In another thread, a person said that there are two, and no one corrected him. Please advise.

No, "bitcoin gold" is what formerly called itself bitcoinGPU.

Notice the funny little "ICO" part?

Is this another hard fork? Then it is right, just like the last time. I have no information about bitcoingold, what does it have over bitcoin? Why another hard fork?

Yes, just noticed about it BTCGPU and ICO part, they are intend to use GPU mining, and disabled ASICs in order to decentralize mining industry which is a good point of this hard fork coin. It become uncertain whether people will get free BTG or you should join the ICO presale, LoL ;D

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2124256.0
But the point is whether people interested to buy this coin? as most people thought it will be another free coin, the value of BTG will be determined by how much money invested into BTG or just like BCash or Byteball free distribution. Still unclear

Haha I guess I will get BTG for free like BCH.
and now it is clear that there are no more fork. everyone is not speculating about this.  8)

Sweet. Do you just have to have a balance in a wallet that isn't on a trading site and we get another Bitcoin offshoot free money drop?

Yes you just need a balance in a wallet from which you own the privatekey, so no exchange wallet for example.

also curious... does it have to be in a wallet on your computer or can it be a wallet on the exchange?

If that's the case then I guess time to party as the fork is near and we are ready to get the free BTC gold in our wallets.
I prefer to keep my BTC on Bittrex as I did the last time when BTC was forked and I got BCH in my bittrex wallet.
The advantage of keeping BTC on exchanges is that when we get free BCH or BTG its quite easy to trade it quickly on the exchange.

How true is this bitconGold, I don't see it making waves like BCH. There is not much news about it. More like a rumor.

Thanks.  Could you suggest the best place to hold at the time, if a fork were to occur or do we need to wait until confirmation and announcements upon who will adopt.
you have two choices each with risk and benefits:
1. hold bitcoin in a wallet that you are the only one having the private key. for example a paper wallet, hardware wallet, desktop wallets like core or electrum,...

the risk is that you will have to download the other coin (BTG wallet) which may be malicious, with bugs or lots of other issues and also risk waiting a long time for confirmations, and wait a long time for exchanges to list the coin and enable deposits before you can transfer the coins there and dump.

benefit is that you will be holding your "bitcoin"s safe. and you will be in full control of bitcoin and any airdrop that comes to you.

2. send your bitcoin to an exchange that promised to credit you your airdrops.
it is like BCH. bittrex promised to credit and they did it on time and well enough.

the risk is that you will be keeping your coin on an exchange. and they will control the airdrop, they may change their mind even.

benefit is that you will be the first one dumping before the price tanks. you can even enjoy all the swings in the early days (buy in the dip and dump in dead cat bounce).

that is a possibility, yes.
although i don't think it will have big effects on bitcoin price though.

This is true? BCH and bitcoin gold? May be we have more than one coin from BTC

This is true, just like what happened in august with bitcoin cash. Though probably not all wallets would support this free coin/airdrop. But a lot of exchanges would surely credit this airdrop like bittrex.

I'm curious to see how many "Bitcoins" will we have in like 10 years. 20? Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Dark, Bitcoin Gold, Bitcoin Dark Cash, Bitcoin Dark Gold, Bitcoin Dark Gold Cash ... I'm just still missing other cool coins, like "The Real Bitcoin", "Bitcoin Classic" etc.
Anyways, only Bitcoin will survive in the long run.

And also, will I be able to mine BTC GOLD with my rigs?

Yep this is legitimate like what happened in the last fork in august i think or September can't remember. You will be given the same amount of the bitcoin you hold to the new token that is fork in this case bitcoinGold. You just have import your encryption keys to a wallet that supports it or exchanges. This new coin might be a pump and dump just like BCC. But who knows maybe it is back up by some corporate entities.

Yes I do remember that mate, and for me it's so unfair with bitcoin economy which those bigger whales paid selected exchanges just to divert bitcoin investors in order to transfer for new BCH coin. But I don't believe that it has a huge significant effect to the economy of bitcoin lately, nothing happens with their plan and luckily we hit that $5000 this year and falls back after china banning of bitcoin speculations. In summation to that fork, bitcoin recovered within a month after those struggles.

Or maybe it's a tricky deception with this BitcoinGold ???.

The risks involved are straightforward, as in easy to spot. Of course replay attacks. And typing in your private keys into some new wallet of unknown reputation.
So best practise would be to move your BTC first, into a fresh and safe wallet, before unburying this new treasure.

It's national hollyday in my country, and I am boored. Maybe recieving another airdrop of some kind could lift the mood?

I have chosen to hold BCH, but I think this time I will sell BTG for BTC directly.
LocalBitcoins compensated their users for their BCH airdrop, but by selling them and redeeming BTC instead. And announced to not redo such all to often. https://localbitcoins.com/blog/bitcoin-bcash/
That could dampen the moods about another BTG rainfall.
Seems the first market swing would point downwards in a sharp curve, bouncing two or three times up again. Some traders do like that, however it's difficult to trade.

I don't know whether giving away free coins like last time but it's good that people are hoping for that. Any division reduced capitalization and is able to create a market dump. If people would keep their coins we painlessly pass through the fork and the fact that the landfill will not compensate for the lack of free coins.

people haven't been really claiming their coins though. i have been checking some of the big addresses and small ones and i keep seeing their BCH coins untouched. this can have many meanings though. some believe BCH will have better price, some don't care about the trouble of claiming it, some don't even know about it.
in the end creating these new coins doesn't mean everyone will get them really even if they are free.

What do you mean about who is november? the fork of the bitcoin about segwit 2x will take the one and the second phase about that and that will be happened in the october and november. i think that the fork should happen around 2 months just like bitcoin segwit that has started on august and ended in september.

If I think it is likely to happen because the longer you wait for execution time until the end of profits that can be obtained in the future is also greater and satisfactory but most important do not forget your own wallet address for the place of acceptance.

Reality Check:
This one started with a horrible website featuring broken English, which they "fixed" by eliminating all the text, and are currently simply linking to Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Have any top 10 exchanges indicated support?
