Title: Sell Litecoin for Bitcoins?
Post by: obinisti on October 04, 2017, 09:57:08 AM
Hi all,

I'm kind of a newbie in the crypto-currencies world, but quite fascinated in fact...
I started to create my own portfolio of currencies (small one, 2500€ to start), where BTC represents 20%, and LTC 35% (and some loss, right now :-( )
So, I wonder if I should not trade some of my LTC for BTC

Or buy more BTC if we think it should raise and hold my LTC...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Olivier

even if I have lost money with LTC right now?
Try to compensate the loss by a raise with BTC?

thanks

It's good to hold bitcoins if you want to see good $$ Figures in your portfolio. Infact i always advise people to keep oscillating and always think profits in term of USD not coins figure, IMO LTC will fall significantly once more before rocketing.

litecoin price has been stable compared to many other altcoins and it has a lot of potential to rise and actually there is a good chance to have a big pump in near future.

in any case if you feel uneasy holding LTC then sell it, remember that it is always better to have your mind at ease rather than invest and have the stress of holding something.

but you don't have to sell all of it. you can sell some until you reach a level that you are more comfortable with.

Just choose that suits you.
for now we should see Bitcoin bullrun, which mean everday or everytime Bitcoin price will increase.
if Bitcoin price increasing every altcoins should be drowning.
which mean Litecoin price will drop even further from now on.
if i was you i will sell my Litecoin and buying Bitcoin for now.
when that time comes (i think it's the peak),i will sell it and then buy it again(Litecoin).
Bitcoin price increasing and Litecoin price decreasing, you sell it at the peak and can buy litecoin more than before, right?
but sometimes you will see Litecoin price increasing with Bitcoin.
for now the safest way to increase your portfolio is buying Bitcoin, most of Litecoin users came from chinese.
while chinese right now doing a drama which is not good for the price

You probably lost money wit Litecoin because it, for whatever reason, does not follow the patterns that Bitcoin does. For example, the previous exponential rise say Bitcoin multiply by more then 5 times its initial value, whereas Litecoin barely rose at all. This is not what normally happens... most cryptos rise with Bitcoin. I am not sure why Litecoin does not, but if I were you I would sell LTC for BTC right now.

i think better you keep holding your litecoin, the ceo of litecoin now focus at litecoin and leaving coinbase, with this fact i think litecoin can rise again, but i dont know when the rise come.
im holding altcoin too, ethereum classic and ethereum, if i compare to valueable (dollar) i lost arround $1000 and now im still holding it waiting the price rising again and earning a lot profit than holding bitcoin.

You can keep some amount in ltc-because it will be growing in future,LTC- most stable coin now in my opinion

I would keep some litecoin but I would perhaps re-arrange your portfolio, maybe swap it around to have 35% btc and 20% ltc, I think this is a better bet for the future as I believe btc has a better horizon than ltc.

As the above comments LTC does not have too much  potential  and trust of traders, why don't you think of investing in an Altcoin other not LTC. I recommend investing in AVT or NEO and let God know you.

You can say that Litecoin doesn't have a potential but still, the price increased by ~20 in 6 months about. Bitcoin never did this. Litecoin is not a crypto to make a profit in a short period of time, it is the type of crypto that you keep for at least 1-2 year.

If you were thinking about a short-term plan then it may be better to sell your litecoin, but for the long run, keep your coins, forgot about them and come back to see after a few months.

If I were in the shoes of the OP, I would have split my initial investment in more cryptocurrencies, from 5 to 10.

I would sell 10 LTC and buy bitcoin before 25th October, then you can sell you bitcoin when it hits 5500 USD. So you can compensate some loss. How many loss do you have made? So we can calculate it better.

That's good strategy which other cryptocurrencies do you chose? Maybe OMG, LSK, Neo, XRP, …

Do you think that Bitcoin Gold will have the half value than Bitcoin Cash or will it be higher?

When I bought it, I had approx 15.2 LTC for 900€, so 58€/LTC - value is now 680€ (-23%) - not a huge loss, and I still think it can go up.
I bought them for mid/long-term: most of you (and what I read) seem to think I should keep them.
But I don't know what their prices could be in 2 years.

So maybe I will sell some other altcoins to buy BTC.
Or just buy BTC: not one, unfortunately, but maybe for 500€ (590$)

thanks,

I bought my litecoin around March ending this year for about $4.5 and someone on this thread thinks Litecoin has not risen or it does not have potential? Litecoin has been a very stable coin but not without growth. If you want to trade normally, you may as well not go for Litecoin, but for a long term holding, Litecoin is good enough and I would not trade what I have for now anyway. Who knows? After all, it isn't hurting my wallet. I feel OP should just do what is best for him. Either you buy bitcoin or keep litecoin, I don't think you will regret any of the decision you end up making.

Sell your LTC and buy Bitcoin will become the right step you have. LTC is bad investment/ trading ( for me ), because they doesn't has significant price moving and low volume. See again their history, even LTC can survive until now but for me is not the right coin to invest/ trade. Thank you.

You are only holding two coins in your portfolio which is not quite good way to invest. You have to diversify your investment into multiple alts like ETC, ETH, BTC, LTC, XMR and also hold some in fiat (USD) to buy more when there will be dump.

Invest in some good project during ICOs to get maximum profit after few months.

Not a good idea to sell Litecoin if you already lose profit.. if you really wanted to make profit better to hold it for a long time..
Looks at coinbase is also supporting litecoin so i think there is potencial that lite can be increase value like ethereum ..

Like other said just diversify your your investment.. don't focus only in litecoin and bitcoin..
You can also try dash, zcash and ETH because mostly miners are mining this altcoin and they are supporting this if the price increase sell it because most miners are selling their holdings if they seen the price was increase..

I say yes, sell the Litecoin and get Bitcoins. But maybe not just all of them because sometimes it's good to diversify the investments and Litecoin isn't bad coin although doesn't have such potential as Bitcoin. You might also include ETH in your portfolio but still keep the majority of funds in Bitcoin, that is still the most profitable.

Ltc is in top 10 of all coins, so its a relatively safe bet. I'm holding some, I have no intention to sell anytime soon.

Litecoin is much fluctuate than bitcoin and it's value is not prominent to convert for bitcoin we have so none of the people will concentrate to sell the bitcoins for ethereum or BCH. These are much look faced coins in altcoin section.
Instead of doing just he can hold it sometime and it's value also will increase without any issues.

In fact, I don't have only LTC and BT
I've also some ETH, LSK, XRP, OMG, ARK & ARDR
But, LTC represents 35% of my portfolio and BTC 19%
That's why I was wondering if I did not have too much LTC

What are your plans about bitcoin and LTC? What's your main goal, are you planning to hold for a longer time or you want to become a short term / day trader? Those two coins you are holding are good to hold and you just have to do nothing with it. But the idea of buying some more bitcoins is what you must do. As many news are coming out bitcoin's potentially growth is there and after some years the price today will be very far from the future's speculated price.

Hope for pump of lct because bitcoin is surely will increase its value. Both ltc and btc are profitable and if you could hold do so. It is most speculative that price will rise and everyone who beleives will earned.

Wow, 2500 Euro is not a small amount, at least in my country. But I am happy so see that you understand the need of diversification. I Would not say it is a good idea to sell your litecoin to buy more bitcoins because that entirely depends on your risk taking capability. If you think for long term, then you can go ahead and buy bitcoin by selling a percentage of your litecoin. However, if you have a short term outlook, then you will be disappointed.

I'm not sure that selling Litecoin for a loss is such a good idea. I can see selling a bad coin for a loss if you realize you made a mistake but I don't think Litecoin is a bad coin. Generally I wouldn't sell with a loss.

If you want to do that, I recommend that you wait for a time when Bitcoin is down and Litecoin is up. I also don't see a problem holding both Bitcoins and Litecoins long term. They are probably both going to make you money. It just remains to be seen which one does better long term.

I sold my LTC to buy BTC,
Why?
I collect more BTC now,
After forking the orice of its and its forking are higher,
Altcoins are dropping now.

After rich holdingb BTC and Forking, buy altcoins.
They are cheap,
More altc and bitcoins,.... only selling forking it may be a good idea and keeping BTC,
It is like free coin.

LTC to BTC is a best option now,
BTC will rise
BTC will give you its forking, it is free.

Altcoins is dropping,
buy it using BTC Forking and it makes you richer right.

I think you should hold on to your LTC and buy more Bitcoins, separate the two and just don't focus on just 1 coin. And make sure you buy these coins when they are at its lowest price though btc is a good investment; there are times it is very low so buy them when it reaches a low price.

For my own opinion, big NO. Litecoin is very promising altcoin, since it has several projects that is really quality and have potential. Since the price of litecoins is low, it can easy to pump so fast. Like what happened in Ethereum, it's 7$ only last january, now, how much each ethereum? around 300$ . Coin that have low price is the best coin to hold.

I think it would be better the other way around, 35% BTC(or more) and 20% LTC. So you should sell some LTC not all, and also invest the remaining in some other coins ETH XMR, etc. Usually,  as it has been seen, LTC and BTC go hand in hand if one takes a dive then so does the other and if one rises the other also will follow soon, so LTC should be up in no time.

Litecoin is a good coin but in this moment it's not at all, when the blockchain system which presented by Bitcoin or Etherum are too strong for now. So in this moment you should hold for it. Future is volatile so it's unpredictable, maybe sometime litecoin will have it's moment and you could become rich cause of holding it ? Opportunities are everywhere, the thing is you need to see it and take it.

in my opinion, if you invest in ltc, it means you are go with long term and should not worried about the price. if you know before ltc has increase, its only 0.003xxx btc equal $6.xxx and now the price reach 0.01xxx btc equal $50.xxx and it need long time before its reach $50. for short term litecoin doesn't give any good price but I think ltc is stable and its in top ten in the coinmarketcap.com.

the other coins you have is good choice and you might thinking to add more eth and xrp for a long term investment too like ltc. for lsk, omg, ark and ardr, I think you can go for daily or weekly or monthly.

you will get a double benefit when the price of LTC and BTC go up.

The movement of LTC is slow, so I dont suggest you to exchange btc with ltc, not a lot of people are using ltc so it will be hard for ltc price become very high, and btc is a very good investment, the price going up in a very good rate and can recover really fast, so it is better to exchange ltc for bitcoin

Yep hold for longer term but not that really long. Beside on what I suggested on what you must do is also when you see good progress with LTC or you are able to earn some good amount then you just simply sell some of your LTC and the profit you'll be getting there is the one that you'll be using for buying another bitcoin. This is being done by most of the traders, they are selling their alt coins for bitcoin.

Ehhmm, I would say that would be a good idea. Litecoin does not have as much potential upside as Bitcoin at the moment.

I have to agree. In 2013 and 2014, Litecoin was the most important altcoin out there. The number of users were quite high, and a number of websites and stores were accepting LTC. But things have changed ever since. Litecoin has lost the race to newer alts such as Ethereum and Ripple.

At the end, it depends on each individual. There is nothing wrong with the OP holding litecoin if he wants. It has shown some LITTLE BIT of progress lately and I sure will hold what I have for as long as I want cause I trust it so far. It might not have some potential as much as bitcoin since it was apparently created as the silver of bitcoin anyway, but that does not make it less better than some other altcoin.

The truth is that no one can predict the future, and the OP should just follow what his mind tells him so he can own up to his own decisions either litecoin moves up like speed of light eventually or it remains as it is.

Buy Litecoins when the market is bleeding same as Bitcoin. but ofcourse the number 1 coin here is bitcoin. if you'll going to sell litecoin make sure you gain so much profit and sell it to bitcoin
that 's a good strategy.

I would also do the same had I being holding the LTC . But bitcoin's price is already very high. There is no much room to grow. I think currencies that are relatively cheaper, are the ones that can guarantee the biggest profit. I mean, if you want to get your initial investment times 2, bitcoin would have to grow to an enormous price of $10,000, while litecoin will have to get only to very small amount of $100. I think there is a higher chance of a virtual asset hitting $100, rather than hoping for $10,000.

I think that litecoin itself is a very good altcoin and there is no need to sell LTC for BTC. Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that enables instant payments to anyone in the world. Litecoin is a very promising and a very popular platform.
I agree with you that investment in litecoin is more risky that investment in Bitcoin but the rate of growth of litecoin is higher than that of Bitcoin. You can expect the price of litecoin to climb to 200$ mark within 3-4 years.

Thanks,
Olivier
PS : sorry for any languages mistakes, english is not my first language

In most cases percentage of BTC should be more as it is the main crypto and all other coins are traded with BTC.

I think you should hold onto LTC as it has great potential in the future and you can still sell it and get the BTC. So store it and don't sell it.

Litecoin is a died coin, i dont know why it is still being pumped, and i dont know why most people try to hype it a lot, it is died, maybe sometimes it goes up by some bucks, but it is never more than 5% per pump, and this is not enough for those who are holding it in large amounts.
Sell those litecoins, and invest on bitcoin, you will get free bitcoin gold after the fork.

Ehhmm, I would say that would be a good idea. Litecoin does not have as much potential upside as Bitcoin at the moment.

I don't think litecoin will be going anywhere soon however I don't think it has much more room to grow. As you've said it was made the silver to bitcoin and bitcoin will always be considered better and bigger. So my doubt with litecoin is what does it have to offer besides being a testing ground for software to be implemented in bitcoin?

Bitcoin is the most promising one.
Also as one poster noted - consider upcoming forks - easy money are always good.

So if you can close your LTC positions with profit and want it - why not. Otherwise I see no reason to quit LTC with locking loss.
The problem is that its not a best time to place buy orders for BTC right now.

I have to agree. In 2013 and 2014, Litecoin was the most important altcoin out there. The number of users were quite high, and a number of websites and stores were accepting LTC. But things have changed ever since. Litecoin has lost the race to newer alts such as Ethereum and Ripple.
That is absolutely what happens when you cannot keep up. Technology keeps advancing and you just have to always be one or two steps ahead everytime rather than feeling you have arrived. Even in future, so many things will change and even ethereum can get bounced from its position. People move to what gives them more value and if they find a better alternative to what they had, it happens like tornado.

To me is Litecoin is a good coin but in this moment it's not at all, when the blockchain system which presented by Bitcoin or Etherum are too strong for now So in this moment you should hold for it .

I sold LTC.

BTC is promising now.
It ll have forking,
Free money.
Hold it and later you can buy cheap altcoin from that forking.

Conservative approach.
we never recommended LTC to any of our clients. Atomic Swap and other SegWIT Stuffs were just hype, In long term the altcoin that will stand is ETH , Lisk , XMR.

Selling Litecoin for Bitcoin is the best way now. If you are good at trading skill, investing in BTC is the safest way to earn money. However, maybe you have to wait for a long time.

Despite all statements of Charlie Lee, I think light's prospects are very vague. It is a fork of the cue ball and the units. the advantage is a fast and cheap transaction. Therefore, the light will not grow rapidly. Even now it seems to me that the cue ball will soon grow up to 16000 rather than the light would reach $ 200.
And Yes it is better to keep your coins in a much larger number of projects. To reduce the risks. And so it is better to keep on different exchanges in different countries. You never know where you will run into Scam

In as much as we can expect anything huge for any of the altcoins, we cannot really say much yet, can we? I sure know most of these coins you have mentioned will have a chance to grow, but the ocean is large and even ETH is not really giving so much as expected so far.

With the development so far, I hope it does but with a lot of competitors coming up with the same type of project, a lot of work should be done so it does not get overtaken. Litecoin on the other hand is one coin I will just stay mute on for the moment.

I was thinking also bitcoin is more potential then bitcoin.
So by selling ltc and  buy bitcoin then its good move.
