Title: What You Need To Know To Get FREE Bitcoin Gold During The Fork.
Post by: Bruce Wayne on October 04, 2017, 07:30:07 PM
Hey guys and girls -

Thanks for all the private messages, sorry if I have not been able to get back to you yet, Ill try to do my best to answer everyone's questions.

ON TO THE FORK:

As most or at least some of you know, Bitcoin is (again) forking.  There are TONS of articles out there on what, why and when.  But I see a lot of people unsure about what they need to do to be able to get this new Bitcoin Gold and what it means for Bitcoin.

Without further adio' here are answers to the most common questions Ive been asked:

1.  When is this fork?

The actual fork is Oct 25th -ish.  There is a general consensus that this will be the date that the block 494,784 will be mined.

2.  What the hell and why is there another fork?
The idea is that this will make the new fork minable by "normal" computers and generally be a faster, (less fees) version of Bitcoin.

3. If Bitcoin isnt owned by someone, who decided to "fork it"

Anyone can fork Bitcoin, BUUUUUT the new chain will only have value if the community decided to mine and use it.

4. How do I get some of this new FREE money called Bitcoin Gold?
Follow these steps:
1. If you have Bitcoin on an Coinbase or any other purchasing/exchange platform - MOVE IT.
2. Move it by, creating a desktop wallet for your Bitcoin and transfer the coins to that wallet.
3. Do nothing. Yep. Nada.  Here is where people get confused.
4. IF YOU control the private key for your Bitcoin via a desktop wallet then YOU will have Bitcoin Gold in equal amounts.

5.  Wait, so how do I get this Bitcoin Gold, do I need a special wallet, how do I find the Gold?
Lets say you now put your Bitcoin into your desktop Wallet with a private key of "123456789qwertyuiop".  That key allows you to log in and view that BITCOIN.   Now you wont see the Bitcoin Gold in that wallet because it likely does not (yet) support the Bitcoin Gold chain.  You now have 2 options to "FIND" your Bitcoin Gold.  Option 1 is to FIND a Wallet that supports Bitcoin Gold (likely after Nov 1st).  Download the NEW Bitcoin GOLD Wallet and use the same private key "123456789qwertyuiop" you use to access Bitcoin, to access the Bitcoin Gold.  The NEW Bitcoin Gold will appear in your Bitcoin Gold enabled wallet.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

There is NO rush to get your Bitcoin Gold so long as you have Bitcoin stored on a hardware, paper or desktop wallet where you control the private key before the snapshot Oct 25th.

I would wait until late Nov to find a Bitcoin Gold wallet to transfer to because there will inevitably be fake, scam, poorly run wallets that may expose you to losing your Bitcoin via the private key.  Take you time to find a trusted wallet.

Cheers and happy investing!

Who is behind Bitcoin Gold?
This is the first time I am hearing such a thing.

I guess 2017 will be known for its multiple chain attacks against Consensus?

The best part of all this is that no one will be proven to be correct at the end.
All parties are wrong and these current actions contradict the system we
participate in. The positioning is ultimately worthless, IMO.

extra advice to add..

after the snapshot date.
move the coins. so that the bitcoins are no longer on private key of (ops eg:)"123456789qwertyuiop" using a bitcoin wallet.
so that while the bitcoin gold still has coins on that (ops eg:)"123456789qwertyuiop". you no longer have them on the same privkey on the bitcoin side to worry about any cross over

then.. knowing the bitcoin gold snapshot has coins on private key of "123456789qwertyuiop".
your then safer to import privkey into a bitcoingold wallet without worry of some hacker/middleman attack taking your privkey to empty your bitcoin stash..

personal note..
i prefer to think of core as the bitcoin gold altcoin. or just naming it segwit as they do NOT want it used as a peer-to-peer currency, they prefer the hub/spoke reserve currency. much like how gold transactions occur.

but then again core have always been screwed up with their buzzwords/ bait and switches and twisting the truth

Well it's already known for this, so why not just amplify it to the point so that we have multiple people trying to split off from the REAL Bitcoin.

Seriously, I don't understand why people are doing this again. Bitcoin Cash didn't work, and won't work. Right now it's just a traded coin. This coin is going to be even more shit then Bitcoin Cash, which crazily enough amassed an insane amount of Market Cap. People have to get on the train that Bitcoin is going to be it, there will be some trading coins but they're never going to be gaining any real usage traction.

Stay with Bitcoin and you'll be fine.

No matter what they're forking the real bitcoin is BTC and this will never change. Some has to understand this reality and give up their useless chain splits. Nobody shall change BTC's fortune.

As most or at least some of you know, Bitcoin is (again) forking.
Bitcoin isn't forking, someone is creating a Forkcoin. It's a crucial difference that can instantly stop all FUD.

Why not make it an even block 500,000 ? I love round numbers!

Just like Bitcoin Cash: I trust no fork-wallet at all! Solution to cash out anyway: move your real Bitcoins first, then install the wallet inside a virtual machine (or if your balance is worth it: a dedicated laptop), and send them to an exchange. Or, if you're into that, just keep'm.

Forks are terrible if you use paper wallets, it's extra work for something that's supposed to be long-term storage. I haven't even sold all my Bitcoin Cash yet, but if it drops just a bit more, it's not even worth it anymore.

I dont know why people are complaining, these means that there is going to be a new coin available for you to sell and get more bitcoins in return of that. Isnt this a fun way to make money? If you ask me, i want a fork everyday :P

In the last fork i moved my bct on freebitco.in and they gave me btc for the ammount of bitcoin cahs i was about to recieve.
So maybe the best thing is to just move your coins to freebitco.in and get repaid for the amount of btc gold you would suppose to recieve. If they are doing this again of course...

side note: Just recognizing your name, you should try Chromium >60 to access that site. They messed up on some upgrade, cutting of several widely used browser types.

Back on track ... gold ... right ... well, "true gold" suffers from huge spread when you try to move it back into paper money. "prefer the hub/spoke reserve currency" exactly leads to the same condition. High fees. And as a result buying pizza ain't be done using gold nuggets.
People will stick with the cheaper money featuring the lower fees. Market rules, it is the economy. Now we will be getting one fork after another sticked up into our behind sides, devil style. Will never end, until Bitcoin fees get as low again as they always have been before.

I think nothing is new and same old procedure to be used to claim this new hardfork coin and same safety measures to be taken to first safe your bitcoins and then claim the new bitcoin gold. But in this also first wait for some days and get cleared that the new wallets for bitcoin gold are clear and safe, like not controlled by the hackers who stole the private keys when their wallets are downloaded.

What about people who have not yet claimed their Bitcoin Cash from the bitcoin wallets yet, will they be able to claim both Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin gold after the fork, from the same wallet? With same private keys?
Or is it better to extract Bitcoin Cash before the fork?

If I'm not mistaken it's a.k.a Bitcoin GPU here's their thread here on forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2133536.0 and I'm not sure if this is their main website http://btcgpu.org/ and it contains nothing but the date of the fork on October 25.

Great advice, does anyone know the approximate time of the bitcoin gold fork?

Just like bitcoin cash hard fork, no one can tell on what approximate time this upcoming fork will happen so just be ready and prepared.

You might need to know first where freebitco.in stands before the fork. You cannot just assume yet they will do the same thing they did the last time. If they state their intentions and will be willing to give users the other side of the chain or convert to btc like they did last. Good! However,  I will advise you make use of a decentralised wallet instead, so you can at least be in full control of your funds.

Okay so if you keep bitcoin on electrum, then you are fine right?

So the bitcoin gold will be in your electrum?  I'm confused here.

Also does that mean bitcoin will drop down in price due to this?  Do you have any idea how much bitcoin gold would be worth about?

So basically keep bitcoin in the same place as in the last fork and you will get bitcoin gold?

If there is going to be bitcoin gold... then wouldn't it make sense to buy a lot of bitcoin now or right before the fork?  That way you get free money since you get the bitcoin equivalent to bitcoin gold?

Because those forks produce doubts about the bitcoin scarcity. If their name were not related to bitcoin it would be fine, but now some people will think that there are 2 kinds of bitcoin (21 M * 2), and that there will be 4 by the end of the year (21M *4). There can be only 1 true bitcoin but those alternatives  produce doubts.

Yes, I guess you are correct and it may even go as far as mid to late 2018
at this rate. Next we will have Bitcoin Plutonium and Bitcoin Latinum.

Seriously, I don't understand why people are doing this again.
...

IMO, it is predicated on a false belief that chain splits is a form of Bitcoin
"evolution" and an economic determination by "survival of the fittest".

This is incorrect and is a misunderstanding of evolution and how it essentially
works. Economic participants in our community have taken a scientific theory
and applied it to chain splits and think that it should function just as in the
natural world does, with viable branches and nonviable branches. But it never
will determine such, since evolution is based upon the human's inability to
control or manipulate nature and time, and their Bitcoin evolution theory is
fully manipulated by human markets owned and controlled by human
governments. So, they are totally different and will not work as they think.

In nature, when a new trait develops that may overtake in the future, that
advanced trait development is usually due to external environmental effects,
not randomly for no purpose (majority of the time). But the current Bitcoin
chain splits are not from a result of "genetic capturability" or "external threat",
but solely for belief in "more choices".

New Bitcoin chains developing as a response to internal conflicts is not a
correct evolutionary theory, and the evolutionary theory should only apply
with external threats. All internal issues or threats should be dealt with
through Consensus systems like an organism's immune system. Using
evolution theory for Bitcoin's current chain splitting, IMO, is obviously wrong
and has nothing to do with "natural evolution", and more to do with human
desires and egos.

So IMO, all of this is either misguided economic participants or attackers
who are manipulating the misguided economic participants.

Which happens to be the max supply of LTC, 21m * 4 = 84m. So far 53m are in circulation.
This supply dillution might create equal prices for 1 LTC == 1 BTC talking fifty bucks.
When that happens we are dead.

As the other fork happened, this one will also follow that trend, and the price of the bitcoin gold will keep going donw, unless there are serious players and whales supporting this coin. BTC is the original one, and nothing can change it!
I agree with the part to wait until late November to extract your new coins, because before that there might be a lot of fakes just wanting to rob your crypto stash.

Can someone explain why you wouldn't sell all your alt's, have everything in Bitcoin on Oct. 25th, and then once the fork happens and you have BTC and the new Bitcoin Gold, redistribute the money back to what you had before.

What am I missing? Isn't whatever you are getting in Bitcoin Gold essentially free money? Why not have everything you own in Bitcoin that one day and then you can sell it off as you see fit, including immediately selling the Bitcoin Gold back into Bitcoin or other alts?

Creating wealth from nowhere, the new crypto elite creating money from nothing.
Money is money, right?

Stay with Bitcoin and you'll be fine.

I am not a profesional Blockchain developer or Bitcoin developer whatsoever but in my own understanding and opinion I think Bitcoin itself doesn't need a fork or any kind of a split it just happen that when you need to change a block size of it there is a possibility that a split may occur meaning it is not 100% so even though the developers won't want it to happen but they can't do nothing because a chance is a chance even it is 0.0000001%

They are all doing this for a better good because Bitcoin needs to upgrade just like IOS, Windows OS, Linux etc. and moving forward is not always perfect it will tackle different kinds of problems along the way but when the trial is done then it will make Bitcoin stronger more than ever.

Anyway, I am glad that I am getting even more free coins. I am in no hurry to claim them. I am yet to reclaim the Bitcoin Cash coins which I got in August. But now I guess I will reclaim both BCH and Bitcoin gold together. I have placed an order for a Ledger Blue hardware wallet. I will be keeping all of my BCH and Bitcoin gold in that wallet, along with a part of my Bitcoins.

Okay so if you keep bitcoin on electrum, then you are fine right?
So the bitcoin gold will be in your electrum?  I'm confused here.

Keep all your bitcoin in Electrum Wallet during 25th October as the 'snapshot' will be taken from here.. (or any wallet you control private key)
The new currency will not show up in your Electrum, you'll then need to claim it from a Bitcoin Gold Wallet. This can be done anytime after 25th.
Exactly like we did with Bitcoin Cash in August

Also does that mean bitcoin will drop down in price due to this?  Do you have any idea how much bitcoin gold would be worth about?

No one can answer this definitively until it happens. If the last recent fork is anything to go by; bitcoin may dip again while the market wraps their head around the confusion (as it did with BCH) but it will certainly recover, and probably within a shorter span this time because people have already recently experienced a fork and they saw it wasn't the end of the world..

If there is going to be bitcoin gold... then wouldn't it make sense to buy a lot of bitcoin now or right before the fork?  That way you get free money since you get the bitcoin equivalent to bitcoin gold?

Yes it most certainly would. Another great reason to stock up on more Bitcoin!  :D

Do we have any info about fork date in november?

Definitely do this, when people were trying to claim their Bitcoin Cash I saw many threads about people just putting their private keys into these wallets and websites to claim their Bitcoin Cash and not moving their existing Bitcoin out and were just lucky that nothing untoward happened.

Be safe and not sorry

I am not seeing any difference in what is being said prior to the period before August 1 fork when the uncertainties was even high and panicking was the order of the day but at last everything happen so easy. That now even most repuatbale wallets and exchnage sites supports BCC and if you want to claim now, its one of the easiest so far you have you private key or pneumonic phrases with you and you are good to go.

Don't leave it on an exchange. You don't own your private keys on an exchange.
So if the exchange decides to keep your bitcoin gold, they can.

Transfer bitcoins out to a wallet you own like electrum.

I think that Bitcoin gold might not gain the same momentum as Bitcoin Cash did, I would expect a lower price than Bitcoin Cash.
Could be wrong of course, but I personally thin that these two coins will fall into obscurity after a few months.

It's kinda surprising that Bitcoin Cash is still being traded at such a high volume though.

Great advice, does anyone know the approximate time of the bitcoin gold fork?

Fork will be at Block 494,784. This will probably be in 3,5 weeks.
I guess the most important Point is to not leave coins on any exchanges/online wallets.
And to move funds to another address.. to be prepared against replay-attacks

Hey guys and girls -

Thanks for all the private messages, sorry if I have not been able to get back to you yet, Ill try to do my best to answer everyone's questions.

I am little bit confuse about the marked sentences above.
Because in August 1, I moved my bitcoins in a paper wallet and later I missed the free bitcoin cash. I didn't received anything.
So as of the marked sentences, how do I claim bitcoin gold if I move my bitcoins in a paper wallet before the fork of 25th October.

It will be highly appreciated if someone gives a detail guideline on this. So that everyone can claim their free bitcoin gold.

edit: please also clarify the snapshot thing. I am just wondering how I can take a snapshot of a paper wallet. Because paper wallet doesn't shows any figure (how much we have loaded into the paper wallet).

Have any of the exchanges announced support for gold?    With BCH I was trading on day one because Kraken supported and gave coins immediately after the fork so I left some on exchange.

So basically no difference between this and Bitcoin CASH, right? Following the same steps we followed with BCH will make us able to get Gold too.

Anyway you said there are 2 options to receive Bitcoin Gold. Which is option #2... maybe putting them on exchanges which will support it? You explained only option number 1...

You should be telling people to hold their keys on any full validating node wallet. I dont care if it's Bitcoin Core, Bitcoin Knots, or Armory, but use a full validating node so you know exactly from what chain you are transacting so you just have to be sure of on what chain you are transacting to. I would recommend to stick to Bitcoin Core to not confuse newbies with other compatible lesser known wallets.

So get your coins off Coinbase or whatever shithole you are holding your coins at, put them into Bitcoin Core's wallet and wait for 25th to arrive. You have enough time to sync your node so I don't want no complains later if you don't do your homework now while you can.

Thanks for this man, i really have been having this questions inside my head for quite some time now. Because I didn’t wanna miss out again like what happened last time with BCH. I mean, who doesn’t want free money? I was just afraid to post questions like those because i was afraid of being bashed. :/
So thanks a lot for this man. Really appreciated.

Who is behind Bitcoin Gold?
This is the first time I am hearing such a thing.

I guess 2017 will be known for its multiple chain attacks against Consensus?

Well it's already known for this, so why not just amplify it to the point so that we have multiple people trying to split off from the REAL Bitcoin.

I agree with you.
As far as I know, a fork happens only in case there is a basic disagreement, (this is what I have seen with open source software and Linux), if 2 parties disagree on should BTC transactions be faster or not. If both parties agree it should be faster, then the question is how, and it is simple to sort it out and develop the original product.

This kind of the alleged “forking” is just copying! Just trying to start again the same history of BTC and make a fortune. They are simply trying to go back in time.

If the original BTC is developing to make transactions faster, and the new alleged fork is doing the same thing, then there is no reason for its existence because it does not add anything new.

If someone fork or copy KFC chicken, but call it Golden chicken GFC, it is the same, there is no reason to succeed, or replace KFC.

I dont trust this BitcoinGold. This could be another distraction concocted by the Chinese miners to divide the community again. They are going to divide and conquer to get the real prize. BTC.
I think no one does because all the people love to invest in the bitcoin and they are waiting for the high profit from it. The gold won’t be able to give the people what they want and what they are searching for. It is the good and the safe process to invest your money in the bitcoin and the price will he high in the coming 5 years you will be the milliner.

A very nice piece of information.
But during the last fork that resulted to BitcoinCash, I had some units of BTC on my wallet.
After the fork, I got equivalent amount of BCC as the BTC I had. Am just thinking if that would be the case with this one too, or am I wrong?

Desktop Wallets are wallets that download to the desktop of your computer, such as:

https://electrum.org (https://electrum.org) (Bitcoin)

https://www.exodus.io/ (https://www.exodus.io/) (Bitcoin and some Altcoins)

I like and use both of these desktop Wallets :)
You control private keys with both and both are eligible for the fork snapshot..

I see a lot of written negative about the new Bitcoin Gold coin. I do not understand why such dislike. It seems that everyone should enjoy the opportunity to receive a free digital coin with a decent value. If someone does not like it, he can sell it and have a decent profit. Now there are a lot of crap coins, which then disappear after a while.

That’s the great strategy everyone has to do so that they can survive easily in the days of fork, and another option to this is described above so that one can get bitcoin gold wallet equivalent to the bitcoin revenue and this help a lot to earn the time of dump also this also and ease to the investor by the bitcoin and it will give chance to people to earn more

This means three forks this year. This one is pretty similar to BCH fork in august, it's just the question how it will roll price-wise. But the question is, if/when the forks will affect the investors approach?

Though most people were scare during the August bitcoin fork that gave birth to bitcoincash but at the end of the day every thing went through smoothly and those that purchase bitcoincash when it was launch instantly made alot of profit and some also lose along the line. I just want to be ready so that I will not miss out.

The best part of all this is that no one will be proven to be correct at the end.
All parties are wrong and these current actions contradict the system we
participate in. The positioning is ultimately worthless, IMO.

Unlike the bitcoin cash which had some some miners willing to mine it and some exchanges listed it on their website way before it came into being, i haven't really heard about any hype about the soon to be Bitcoin Gold at all. It will surely be dead on arrival.

It means NOT keeping your coins in something like blockchain.info wallet, it is an online wallet.
What is meant by desktop wallets are wallets like Electrum, and Bitcoin Armory, the ones that you have complete control over our money on, and where you have control of your private keys.

This is a good guide. But one thing you forgot to say is to not make too much transactions until the bitcoin fork is over , cause its highly possible that a transaction might be lost during these times.

This is a good explanation for enlightening people who do not know them. Just like Bitcoin Cash we will get Bitcoins gold when the hardfork is over. The amount you get depends on how many bitcoins you hold. And you can buy it when it's available to exchangers.

So are most of you getting bitcoin right before the fork?  How long before the fork should you get btc?  Also wouldnt it make sense to trade all your altcoin for btc before the fork just to get your bitcoin gold?  Also wouldn't it make sense to buy bitcoin just to get the bitcoin gold?  And if so how long before the bitcoin fork then?

And does anyone have a guess at how much bitcoin gold would be worth?

Also i assume if you havent claimed your bitcoin cash yet, well it doesn't matter and you could claim your bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold later on?

extra advice to add..

after the snapshot date.
move the coins. so that the bitcoins are no longer on private key of (ops eg:)"123456789qwertyuiop" using a bitcoin wallet.
so that while the bitcoin gold still has coins on that (ops eg:)"123456789qwertyuiop". you no longer have them on the same privkey on the bitcoin side to worry about any cross over

then.. knowing the bitcoin gold snapshot has coins on private key of "123456789qwertyuiop".
your then safer to import privkey into a bitcoingold wallet without worry of some hacker/middleman attack taking your privkey to empty your bitcoin stash..

personal note..
i prefer to think of core as the bitcoin gold altcoin. or just naming it segwit as they do NOT want it used as a peer-to-peer currency, they prefer the hub/spoke reserve currency. much like how gold transactions occur.

but then again core have always been screwed up with their buzzwords/ bait and switches and twisting the truth

BTW why there is no announce for this fork in here? is there any official post?
Where can we see who is making it and how it will be working?

We'll just wait and see what will happen on November before, during and after the fork of the bitcoin for the Gold, Bitcointalk community will also announce the date and some precautionary methods to avoid problems during the fork like the last bitcoin cash fork.
For the Bitcoin cash, everyday it continues to dump from $800 to 309 price right now. it is time to sell my bitcoin cash or just wait?
Also i think bitcoin gold is the next ETH of the bitcoin because it has a good potential, can mine through low end devices without using ASIC.

Well for the hardware wallet you will have to buy online and it will take time to deliver...
For paper wallet you can use a javascript if you make a search here you will see one that has GitHub, so you can get it from there. then you need LiveCD (ubuntu) to boot the OS with NO internet!!! (if you like the paranoia unplug the HDD as well ;) )
Then you run the JS on the browser and you can generate wallets. then you print them ;) that is all.

If you have any troubles you could ask and I will try to help you.

BTW do not want to give you link to the JS as it is not mine and do not want to mislead you in any way.
I think the one I use (it is pretty old) is from this forum, so it is safe to say if it has a good reputation and in the [ANN] there is nobody saying there is problems with it then it is ok.

In the exchange you do not have access to the private keys => no access to the forked network.
If you have PC/Phone/Paper/Hardware wallet then you have the private keys and have access to all forked chains ;)
If you sell the new coins you will end up with more BTC then if you keep in the exchange.

There is a possibility that the exchange will support the new fork, then you will get the new coins, but that depends on the exchange will to share the coins (support them)...

I'm a newby to bitcoin and have put savings into a BTC exchange wallet. I dont understand this fork at all, but having read your post i think im going to purchase a hardware wallet even if its just for security! Could someone please explain how transferring my BTC from and exchange to a hardware wallet before the fork, gains me more BTC? super confused!

Thanks!

Awesome thanks for the reply! So basically I may as well just store them to a hardware wallet, then after the fork (say beginning of December), i can transfer back to the exchange wallet and my BTC should be worth more? If i want to transfer it back that is.

Have I understood that right? haha

Nope the BTC will be the same, but you will have Bitcoin Gold and the other x2 (if it occurs)

but the amount of BTC will be the same (the price of BTC is something different)

It is ok. no problem I will explain:
The new coin uses the history (ledger) of BTC.
So all the keys that open coins in BTC will open the same coins in the forked coin.
This is all correct for the amounts available in the wallets before the fork...
After that the amount in the wallet does not matter anymore...

Hope now it is much clear...

Whats the last deadline to keep Bitcoins in the wallet to get free Bitcoin Gold i.e. Stop doing any transactions of Bitcoins ?
For example: Is it possible to have bitcoins in my wallet on 24th October and take advantage of free Bitcoin Gold on 25th October? or must I keep it there earlier for some time?

i see that you sad move your Bitcoin to a desktop wallet so you can get Bitcoin gold after couple of days from the fork so i want to know if any wallets will be working on mobile that can give you private keys and by that giving you the chance to have bitcoin gold at the end
also i'm hearing that the new bitcoin currency wouldn't worth that much and more likely not to get past the value of 1mbtc so you have to hold more bitcoin to get something worth trading because if it is like that you can lose more then you gain on transaction fees alone.

Thank you for the time you took to write this, it's very simple yet very informative and straight to the point.

I hope hardware wallets also support BTG. In August my Ledger Nano got upgraded so it showed a BCC balance as well as a BTC one - fingers crossed the same will happen this time.

I have read in one thread that there is a minimum bitcoin requirement to avail the free bitcoin gold, which is 1 btc, is that true?
So basically, the things we need to do are exactly the same thing we did on the August fork, right? I think there are no difference in terms of preparation.

It is good to have them there on the 24th, as we d o not know exactly when on the 25th they will take a snapshot of the blockchain. And to be on the safe side, keep them there up until the end of 26th, so you will be sure you will get them. The idea to have them on a PC is that you will have access to the private keys. This will give you access to the gold.
As the wallet you got will not support gold, but the keys will unlock it once you get to a wallet that supports gold.

Good luck ;)

What about people who have not yet claimed their Bitcoin Cash from the bitcoin wallets yet, will they be able to claim both Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin gold after the fork, from the same wallet? With same private keys?
Or is it better to extract Bitcoin Cash before the fork?
Asking the same thing.

You need the private keys. If you have them you can access the coins.

If you have Bitcoin on the wallet @ time of BitCoinCash => you have access to BCH with the keys.
If you have not moved the BTC after 25th => you got access to Bitcoin Gold as well.
All you need is the private keys.
If your wallet (The software) does not support the forked coins, transfer the BTC to a new wallet (new pair of keys) and then you can use the keys to access your forked coins from a wallet (software) that supports one or both forked coins.
;)

This a very educative information. I want to know what you mean by desktop wallet. Is it the normal blockchain.info wallet that we all know or is it another type of wallet?
It means NOT keeping your coins in something like blockchain.info wallet, it is an online wallet.
What is meant by desktop wallets are wallets like Electrum, and Bitcoin Armory, the ones that you have complete control over our money on, and where you have control of your private keys.
Actually Im not sure this is true. I *think* (but Im not certain) that blockchain.info users will be able claim BTG after the fork, but I really want to get some clarity on this.

I had BTC stored in a blockchain.info wallet during the BCH fork and I was able to claim all the BCH I was entitled to. At that time I actually had my BTC stored in what blockchain.info refers to as 'imported addresses' and I was able to use Coinomi to get that BCH. I used Coinomi to get about half of the BCH I had. Then, just a few days ago blockchain.info released their own support for BCH making it possible for me to claim the rest of my BCH within my blockchain.info wallet, without having to use Coinomi. I am hoping that blockchain wallet users will also be able to claim BTG after the coming fork as well.

But I'm hoping others have more info on this? I will message blockchain support to ask and Ill post whatever response I get back.

Thanks for your generous answer but what happens I keep my bitcoin in web wallet let?s say blockchain.info where I am holding access for my private key. Can able to get bitcoin gold.even till now I dint claim bcc for the holding I had in blockchain.info on august fork.

In this case you do not have the private keys thus no access to the forked coins...

EDIT: You will need a paper wallet or @ PC or Hardware wallet in order to have access to the forked coins...

Blockchain.info wallet users do have access to their private keys. You dont get the private keys itself, rather you have a 'recovery phrase' that serves as your private key and allows you to import you blockchain wallet into any other desktop wallets if you wanted to.

From the blockchain.info blog:
As always, our wallets are non-custodial and you, our users, hold the private keys, meaning you always have full, exclusive access to your funds with your recovery phrase and can import them into another wallet of your choosing.

So blockchain.info wallet users do have access to our private keys (via the recovery phrase). I think you would claim your BTG like this:
-After the BTG fork you would transfer you BTC to another wallet for security.
-Then you would use the recovery phrase of the old wallet that held BTC during the fork to claim BTG in a wallet that supports BTG.
-You would be able to use any desktop or online wallet to claim the BTG that supported importing an address via a recovery phrase?

Please note that I'm not certain this is the case. I'm researching this now and would appreciate any input from others.

I believe this happens completely upon the support from the wallet service providers. When the days gets closer to the fork, we'll get notifications from the wallet service renders what needs to be done and what shouldn't be by the time of fork to get all the assets in terms of bitcoin gold or in terms of bitcoin.

Ahh if you have the recover phrase - yes you have the private keys and will be able to access them ;)
Good think they have changed it (I used them in the beginning and do not remember how it was back then 4 years ago..)

But as they give you the keys it is you how has access to the wallets and you will be able to access them the same way you did with BCH ;)

Well... when I claimed BCH I did it two ways.

At the time of the BCH fork my BTC was in 'imported addresses' which were BTC addresses imported into the new blockchain wallet interface from the previous incarnation of the blockchain wallet. These imported addresses were not held in the user's main blockchain wallet, and they were not recoverable using the recovery phrase for the main wallet. Rather the user was given the exact private key for each imported address. Therefore it was possible to use the private key to claim your BCH from each address. In my case I used a process with Coinomi where I entered the private key for each imported address and was able to claim my BCH that way. I used that process to claim approximately half of my BCH.

Then blockchain announced they would support BCH and would provide a tool for claiming BCH. So I decided to wait for that to go live to claim the rest of my BCH rather than use Coinomi coz tbh that process was a pain in the neck, Coinomi's BCH support was quite buggy. So I was able to use the blockchain.info tool to claim the second portion of my BCH from the last of my imported addresses.

However at the time of the BCH fork I didn't have any BTC in my main blockchain wallet it was all in imported addresses, so I havent ever tried to claim BCH using the recovery phrase. Im not sure how that process works and which wallets etc would have been used at the time in that process.

I have since moved my BTC from the imported addresses into my main blockchain wallet address, so in my case the process for claiming BCG is going to be different to how I claimed BCH: I'll have to use the recovery phrase rather than the exact private key associated with each imported address.

I assume the process will be as I posted above. Using a wallet other than blockchain, that supports BTG and supports importing addresses via a recovery phrase.

As far as I know blockchain.info wont be supporting BTG straight away, and if they do provide support its likely to be weeks / months after the fork, like for BCH.

But yeah, I think we can use the recovery phrase to claim BTG with another wallet. Hope Im right about that.

Yes that's probably what's gonna happen.
As Bgold uses replay protection there shouldn't be any big issues for users to split their coins.
I believe most of the wallet providers will make announcements close to the hardfork or shortly after it happened.

Yes you will need to find a wallet that supports the forked coin and passphrase in order to access the forked coins.
Also remember that with the passphrase you will be able to access any BTC as well (if present). so remember to move the BTC (if you will not use it soon I suggest paper wallet)...

Yes the first step would be to transfer BTC to a new wallet after the date of the fork. I would do that before attempting any steps to claim BTG.

There is no clear info for that. Hope they will provide one soon...
And idk if that coin will be good investment to mine, especially without all the info about how where and when will all happen...

It is too shady for now...

That's too bad, I wouldn't want to miss the start. I bet the mining difficulty will increase extremely fast because everyone will jump in.

Even though there was much discussion about the coin, there is a lot of information available regarding the points you mentioned:

- Mining via Equihash: First of all, the mining algorithm will be Equihash, which is the algorithm Zcash uses, a mostly RAM dependent mining process.
- Block of fork: The fork will take place at BTC block 491407. This block will most likely be mined around October 25, 2017.
- Exchanges and mining pools: The official homepage lists several exchanges and mining pools, which confirmed that they will support Bitcoin Gold.

I hope, this helps a little bit. As everyone who holds BTC, when the fork takes place, will automatically get BTG, the risk of "investing" is rather low. Only the time after the fork will show, if BTG will have some value or not.

There is no clear info for that. Hope they will provide one soon...
And idk if that coin will be good investment to mine, especially without all the info about how where and when will all happen...

It is too shady for now...

This is somehow a good news. Much more then I was able to find out searching in here and in google.
Could you please provide the official site, so I can read more.

BTW if it is going to be mined as Zcash, then it will compete with its price...
Will see what will happen...

The signatories of this agreement wrongly believe that the currency created by adopting this contentious hard fork will eventually become Bitcoin. Therefore storing any BTC on services such as Coinbase, Bitpay and Xapo is strongly not recommended. By storing BTC on these services, you could find that after the hard fork, your BTC has been renamed to something else or replaced entirely with the new altcoin

According to bitcoin.org if you use any exchanges such as Coinbase you need to move it off there ASAP. After the fork, any BTC that you have on these exchanges will be converted to a new completely different currency which could be worth 0? Is that right?

I'm seriously thinking about cashing out my bitcoins before I lose everything! Why does Bitcoin have to be so complicated >.<

Should I be worried? Should I be getting them onto my Trezor hardware wallet? Is it safer there than exchange? I was hoping to keep my BTC for the future but now im just confused.

If the total value of your BTC is greater then $100 it is not advised to keep them in any exchange.
Best solution will be hardware wallet.

IF the new coin has a value of 0 the exchanges will not support it. if they support it you will have both of them, but as I said if you hold over $100 in value DO NOT leave them in exchanges. You risk of losing them!

These will help us and give an idea of how we can get free BTG (Bitcoins Gold) During hardfork. You need to put a balance in your HardWallet like Blockchain, Xapo, Coinomi Wallet Apps, Jaxx.io apps and other wallets that hold your private keys and support Hardfork to receive free BTG. Or to Exchanger like Bittrex, Hitbtc, Yobit as well as wallets it needs support for Bitcoins Gold / Hardfork. The amount you can get BTG is equivalent to your BTC placed on such wallets and exchangers.

I took this info that coinbase is going to automate the btc fork. Am I correct? or do I need to move my btc asap?

Who is behind Bitcoin Gold?
This is the first time I am hearing such a thing.

I guess 2017 will be known for its multiple chain attacks against Consensus?

The best part of all this is that no one will be proven to be correct at the end.
All parties are wrong and these current actions contradict the system we
participate in. The positioning is ultimately worthless, IMO.

Did fork happened lately or not? Why they dispersive the false information about bitcoin? Bitcoincash is the clone of bitcoin ao how fork do we have in a year? Why do they need to make a new one? There's a lot of alternate coins so why they need to create a new one? Bitcoin will still be a number one and no could beat up.

I am sorry to inform you that what you call HardWallet in your post are in fact hot wallets (should not trust them with more then small amounts that you need to move around).
If you want to have HardWallet (Cold Wallet) you will need to get one hardware wallet, or paper wallet, as the security of the others is less secure.
Even on Jaxx site they say to use it as hot wallet.

But then again more security comes with more cost and troubles operating with coins...
And yes as long as you got the private keys you will be able to obtain clone coins ;)
Just bare in mind the risk there is...

well, this is not the first time we will be having a fork of BTC, a all I know is BITCOIN is here to stay no matter the a agreement/disagreement against consensus.
I'm interested in having more btc . hence will wait for the fork and after convert the BitCoin gild to BTC
The question is that bitcoin gold can really have a value later just like bitcoin cash?  And people can easily get freemoney from it?
I always talking about the worst scheme first before making any investment.
All of this really sounds too good to be true ,
Just think about if this kind fork happened let's says once a year , people won't struggle to make profit just do invest everytime bitcoin will get fork and your money get doubled or so , really sounds too good to be true , let's talk about the worst scheme could happened , is there any opinion about this?

Well, looks like bitcoin going over $6,000 today while most alts are on red is due to people moving into BTC to get the fork coins. If so, after the fork we can expect money moving back into alt coins and BTC to come down somehow.

How do you know it has anything to do with the fork coins? Anytime that the price of BTC rises with high volatility, altcoins usually suffer. This was expected with Bitcoin making new all-time highs today. The same thing happens when BTC price crashes -- alts are bloody.

Altcoins usually thrive when BTC price is sideways/consolidating. Considering the recent volatility, it could be weeks or even a couple months before I think we'll see altcoins enter new uptrends against BTC. That doesn't mean that the bounces aren't worth trading -- they are. But I would be very cautious about building long term altcoin positions in the short term.

Would it be a good idea to trade all your altcoins and even use money in the bank just to get more bitcoin just for the bitcoin gold... then once you do that, convert the btc back to altcoins and cash in bank?

Does anyone have a clue how much money will bitcoin gold be worth about?

And how would one claim their bitcoin gold?  Also what if you did not claim your bitcoin cash?  I assume no problem with this right?  And how easy/hard would it be to claim bitcoin gold?  Will you need another computer?  Thats the reason why i did not claim my bitcoin cash yet.

Everything mentioned. Thanks for sharing this. I was having a few doubts about these forks and have cleared everything with your post. But there is one thing I would like to ask you. Will there be more forks in the future? and how the price be decided for these forked coins after the hard fork.

I would wait until late Nov to find a Bitcoin Gold wallet to transfer to because there will inevitably be fake, scam, poorly run wallets that may expose you to losing your Bitcoin via the private key.  Take you time to find a trusted wallet.

This is a VERY good case in point. Lots of coinholders plan to DUMP the BGold the minute they get their hands on it - therefore searching for an easy and fast wallet to collect the coin then dump on the market. Alas, this could result in major schemes poised to ripoff tons of BGold for these coin flippers.

I have been debating on whether to HODL or dump BGold. I think I will chose to at least hold for the dust to settle so I don't lose my coin.

I think there is value in the coin, although there is so much FUD about it that it will create a huge initial dump. Once all that manages to dissipate, the actual miners with GPUs could bring the value to the table.

We shall see . . .

Do we really have to put bitcoin on a desktop wallet or is it ok to just put it in jaxx?

Well the best will be to have them in 1 wallet (one address) but as the fork must have occurred already it is late. The good news is that jaxx provides private keys and you will just have to see where are the coins you have (in one wallet there or in several) and to take that private keys out.
The next step before obtaining your bitcoin gold is to move the BTC out of all wallets that you will expose private keys of to a new wallet.
The you use the private keys to access your gold.

BTW it is allays a good idea to check with public keys if you already have the gold in the new blockchain ;)

Okay so when can we claim the bitcoin gold?  I recall when bitcoin cash came out, people could get their bitcoin cash pretty easily.

Also i heard theres another fork after this one?  When is that?  So that means there is bitcoin cash, bitcoin gold and another one?  So basically this is like free money?

I don't think people or newcomers should be getting involved with this stuff at all, unless you are just planning to dump the forkcoin for profit. Even then you are at risk of giving up your privacy by moving your original bitcoins.

and can you access your coins, or not yet?

It was normal to drop that much as there was too big delay, and still not sure that the blockchain is live or it still in private premine state?

Well this was not a fork, so maybe that is why you get confused...
This is a creation of new coin that is premined and that was created to mislead people to think that this will be a fork.
yet this is not a fork and I am not sure if you can access the coins at this point...
wondering what has happened to the futures that where traded...

as I do not see in the near future to be able to access the coins you have...

I dont know why people are complaining, these means that there is going to be a new coin available for you to sell and get more bitcoins in return of that. Isnt this a fun way to make money? If you ask me, i want a fork everyday :P
Yeah!! you will not be able to make any money and your bitcoins will become worthless. all previous forks resulted in reducing bitcoin assess and gaining trust again take time. forking is not always a good thing for the network and it always has major side effects.
