Title: Solo vs. Pooled Mining Network Traffic?
Post by: mikeo on June 25, 2011, 06:48:54 PM
I'm curious to know if there are bandwidth consumption differences between these two mining methods. I can only obtain wimpy DSL 1.3Mbs/0.75Mbs actual on my system, and nothing faster is available at a reasonable cost.

I would also like to know.

But on a different note: do you have that much hardware to make solo mining worthwhile? Or do you plan on being lucky  :) ? What I mean is that currently the difficulty is 1379223. If I understand it correctly, that means you need to make N hashes to have a probability P of success:

N=log(1-P)/log(1-1/(1379223*2^32))
N(P=0.5)=4.1 PetaHashes

Please correct me if I got it wrong.

I've been doing both solo and pooled mining and I have not noticed any significant difference in the bandwidth usage.

Seems to be negligible.
