Title: [2017-10-09] Bitcoin Has Caught the Attention of Tanzania’s Central Bank
Post by: Iloveelvis on October 09, 2017, 08:35:12 PM
Bitcoin is growing popular throughout a few regions within the giant continent of Africa. One of these areas seeing bitcoin growth is the United Republic of Tanzania. Due to the rise in interest towards bitcoin from Tanzanian citizens the Bank of Tanzania governor, Benno Ndulu, expressed some concerns about the decentralized currency this week.

Currently, online searches for the decentralized cryptocurrency bitcoin are trending significantly within the Eastern and Southern African regions. There is significant interest in areas like Nigeria, Kenya, and Tanzania and these regions have a plethora of ways to obtain bitcoin. In Tanzania specifically, Localbitcoins volumes have risen exponentially since last Spring and the country’s central bank is beginning to take notice.

That's ok that they want to learn crypto-currency firstly. But there are good experience of bitcoin adoption as Australia and Japan, they can follow that, for example.
In the current situation the world seems get shared on Chona and South Korea with their banning and Japan and Australia. Other countries are like in the middle and looking which strategy is going to give best results. I think Tanzania is such a just kind.

lol

Central banks: just quit. There's nothing you can do. Die quietly, or cause chaos, the choice is yours. But you are on the wrong side of history now, be careful, and maybe, maybe you could redeem yourselves. Remember, you people still need to live in this world once your influence is finished, and it will finish while the majority of you are alive. The 7 billion regular people in the world aren't going to be very happy (or understanding) with you if you try to cause trouble as you lose your power. Be nice.

People are focusing mainly on Asia nowadays, and for a good reason, but Africa isn't something that we should put aside like it's nothing. I see a massive emerging market that at some point will greatly contribute to the growth of Bitcoin's ecosystem. Central banks are feeling the pressure of people slowly but surely figuring out the power of the decentralized nature of Bitcoin. They probably thought that they could maintain their central position in their economy for many more decades, but the opposite is true. :)

I have been telling people in this forum that big surge of growth can be coming from both Asia and Africa. Countries in these areas are getting interested with Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. And although these areas are littered with poverty it does not mean that there are no critical mass of people who can afford to buy some Bitcoin. In fact, just like in Venezuela, when many people have their small shares we can be experiencing some flood of buzz and growth.

There is a big future for Bitcoin in these areas but of course we have to consider the stand of the government as certainly many of them will accept while there are those who will ban the cryptocurrency all together. They should realize of the many benefits that cryptocurrency can be bringing to a county just like what is being experienced by Japan right now. With the right mix of regulatory measures and fair implementation, cryptocurrency can be offering hope and maybe financial freedom to many.

Good luck, Africa! And welcome to the Bitcoin bandwagon!

It's one thing for the Bank of Tanzania to study the impact of bitcoin, it's another to look at how blockchain-based banking services including enabling peer-to-peer lending can extend banking services to people who are otherwise excluded from the traditional banking system.

They want to learn crypto currencies first, but to what it is going to lead? To new banning or to new legalization? I have just heard the news from Russia and their banning of exchangers.

they didn't ban exchangers, this is just gossip, based on what Putin said
but nobody cares to read the original message
there are contradictory statements coming every week from Russia, ranging from "Russia legalises bitcoin"
to "Russia banning cryptocurrencies and closing exchangers"
once there is a concrete law stating that bitcoin is banned or legalised I would not bother to believe gossips
