Silk Road might have made some bad PR for bitcoin, but people came and bought them under the guise that they could buy drugs anonymously. I would argue that it was positive in the long term, just seemingly bad PR for the mass. It is a present battle of personal freedom. Adult business, ie weed and women, to simplify it, are things people have enjoyed, continue to enjoy, and will enjoy.
