Weirdly enough, I do have some friends and family that are scared of Bitcoin and other types of 'online currencies' as they like to call it. Though I must say, a disproproionate number of these people are older and they're people who are scared of all newer technology in general. These people think that all of their money could be hacked or stolen on the network and isn't as trustworthy as the banks.

I can only facepalm. It's kinda sad what these people have been turned into. Hopefully it isn't too late and these people can be saved.

I have a friend before that I'm sharing the good things about bitcoin and crypto things but you know what? He keeps on telling me that it is a scam and even those web wallets are scam. I don't get it that by just someone that told him be careful about those things, he thinks immediately that bitcoin is a scam and even the local exchange here is a scam though it is a legit one and has been registered to the central bank. Guess what? He's now a very boastful miner and number 1 fanatic - defender of bitcoin.  ;D

Yes, some of my friends and relatives are afraid because bitcoin is not "physical". They are afraid that I'm calling bitcoin as money but I can't touch it physically. While others have heard it and have a bad connotation because they see in the news that bitcoin was the mode of payment for the wanna cry hackers. So bitcoin for them was used illegally. Really hard to argue with folks that are already closed minded regarding what bitcoin can bring in their life.

About two weeks ago, I have a good chat with my lady friend who I share bitcoin way back. We are no longer officemates but I now that she remembers about bitcoin. I said to her that I rediscovered it and now I'm into bitcoin by trading and investing. Unfortunately, she is still skeptics about bitcoin up until know and thinks that its some kind of ponzi and scam coins. Our argument went to go on. I wasn't convinced here though. But I give here one of my wallet so that she can see it on blockchain and look how may investment grows.  ;D. I will go back to her next month and ask her if she is still doubting bitcoins. hahahaha.

Do not be forced, let them say about Bitcoin as per their knowledge. if it has explained to them, then our task has been completed. Interested or not they have different choices and views.
Bitcoin will be hard to accept for people who do not open up to technological advances. they will surely regret it.

People around me, they're afraid of bitcoin because people tend to trust Banks more, prefer to have their money in the bank, rather than believe in their own wallets. The other reason is that the price of bitcoin has fluctuated so much that the price of bitcoin has fluctuated so much that they may not be able to accept it. And then there are people who have been convinced that bitcoin is a hoax, and I don't want to explain it to these people.

Most of my relatives are scared about bitcoin. They don't even take enough time to simply term it as a scam.Either, they don't understand totally the concept of bitcoin or else, they just compare it with other online scams. They are not willing to trust in any thing which is created by individual parties other than government.

Some term it as pyramid scheme just like russian president putin while some others term it as  ponzi scheme like indian parliament member. But one thing is clear that they are only willing to trust the traditional way of currencies issued by governments.

Out of four of my friends to whom i told about bitcoin, only one has believed in my words and has even started to earn in bitcoins while the others did not show any interest.

Afraid of bitcoin and virtual currencies in general? I don't know anyone personally who's like literally scared of it. Maybe banks.  :D

Probably just like what most people said in this thread, older people, or more specifically, non-tech savvy people. They probably just couldn't grasp the technicalities on how a currency could exist without a company/organization controlling it. It honestly would be very difficult to explain to them how the transactions work, mining, the blockchain in general, all those stuff.

Based on my experience. Many people hate crypto especially in Bitcoins. Because this money is already used in investments that is the real purpose is to steal our hard earned money. You really would love to offer thieves because the money will increase unlimited means you will earn money even without doing. Many people have stolen it and the only thing they say is that they will not invest in bitcoins

Based on my experience there are a lot of people who criticized me of what I am doing here in this cryptocurrency world. They are my family, relatives and friends. My family and my relatives are the first to reacts the most about investing and using of Bitcoins. They told me that it is just a trap and they also told me to refrain from engaging such kind of scam. They said that I am just wasting my time and money on it. Second are my neighbors, I know that their eyes rolled  when I first introduced Bitcoin to them. They don't even ask me what it is and showed me that they are not interested on cryptocurrency. Third are my social media friends, majority of them don't care about Bitcoin and few of them got interested in. Most of them has doubts on crypto that's why they hardly make a distance from it. Some of them are lazy ones because if only they are going to do some research about an idea of crypto they might understand my point and purpose of sharing my ideas to them. But some of those people who ignores me before are now slowly adopting crypto. I know that ignoring someone who is willing to help educate and guide them would be their greatest regret in life because if they'd grab those opportunity right away it might change their fortune.

That is clearly that the virtual currencies is much different with the realistic world. It could be more risky, but the same time I believe one day virtual currencies will be used in spread way.

I had read topics outside bitcointalk that there are people who are afraid of investing in the virtual currency because they are afraid to be scammed or even hacked thats why they are afraid. They should atleast try the actual investing and holding the bitcoin for them to experience the good thing about it because if they will try they will go crazy on the profit they will earn but of course risk is always there.

Yeah, it is a natural issue that everyone can't accept any newly invented platform. we always prefer what we have. Since the virtual currency is the newly added business system so that some of us are afraid of using this platform. but the scenario has been changed and people are getting engaged with this system.

i think they are not afraid but they don't believe about what bitcoin can offers to them because we know that bitcoin is new technology and not all people know bitcoin. i have experience with my brother from my dad's side, i give him a little satoshi just want to share about bitcoin and from day by day, he watching tabtrader while he asked me why the price is up or down and others. i think the other people is like my brother which is not afraid with bitcoin but they don't learn anything with bitcoin so they can understand about what is the point with bitcoin that could help them to make money.

I don't know any people who are afraid of Bitcoin but I will surely give the reasons why people don't believe in BTC.

1. Bitcoin's volatility is too much for people to believe in.
2. Anonymity of Bitcoin makes people think it's risky to invest in it.
3. Fear of loss is another reason why people don't consider investing in it.
4. Terrorism - BTC is used for making payments foe illegal things and this is most obvious reason why people are afraid of it.
5. Some people think Bitcoin is a bubble and will explode taking others with it.

With the increase of bitcoin just give her preev.com and let her check the price real time changing. Tell us some more about that lady friend of yours if she still thinks that bitcoin is a kind of ponzi and scam. I can't blame her for thinking like that as most of my friends are still the same thing about bitcoin but I just let them go and decide for themselves while I'm having some relax time while earning some good bitcoin enjoying it's increase.

I've been here in 6 months in the cryptocurency world and some people in our country uses it as their part time job or a full time job. I'm a student who chooses this platform to be my part time job and since i'm earning enough to sustain my expenses such as transportation, projects and other expenses for a student. So i shared it to my friends and family i told them that last month the bitcoin price doubles up and reaches over 4000$ and their first reaction is that

Friends: They thought that i'm just fooling around and telling them that it reaches 4000$ and encouraging them to use bitcoin in order for me to have a referral. And also they thought that bitcoins is a scam or just a waste of time because there's no such thing as 1 bitcoin = 4000$ and of course they won't believe in me even though i explain it.

Family: Just like what i have told to my friends that i'm earning online and of course they don't believe and told me to stay away from that because they thought that bitcoin is illegal and just only use in a black market. Actually their first thought about bitcoin is that it's a money in illegal works.

In the past I was also afraid of the business on the internet, hahaha. But then I saw my friend at school who worked and earned some dollars. I am excited and convinced that there is a bright side of the internet, and I am aware that not everything on the internet is scam. I began to explore the various jobs that existed on the internet and began to collect some money. In fact I managed to pay my school bills from the internet. From there I started to know Bitcoin.  ;D

There's really no reason to be afraid of Bitcoin or digital currencies. Nothing is inherently scary about them. The fear comes from losing money, because you have to spend some to get in the game. It's a risk, and not everyone likes risks.

I dont think so that people is afraid about virtual currencies. They only afraid because they dont know how to operate it how to trade it so i think that is the reason. But if they know about virtual currencies they will never be afraid to explore it.

I do not know people who would be afraid of crypto currency and bitcoin, but I know people who do not understand it and consider it a fraud. The most interesting is that they have never been interested in it, they have not read the information. And when I talk to them on the subject of crypto currency, I manage to convince many that behind bitcoin is the future, that it is safe and gives an opportunity to earn money. Someone even invests with my help. And I'm very happy that I manage to change the world a little :)

Yes, I know such people, mostly this is the older generation and simply avid skeptics. Some of them in principle believe that the Internet is evil :)
I'm not trying to convince them otherwise, but I'm just talking about bitkoin, his idea, his future and, most importantly, security. Some change their opinion in a positive way, and it pleases me.

One of the main reasons is i guess is the lack of knowledge about it about it they fear that it's dangerous and illegal to use that's why they fear in using it these is also one of the reasons why my friends doesn't what the use it because they thought that it is illegal and they lack the knowledge on what potential it have as an asset or an investment. So most of them have no interest investing or using it cause they think it is just a ponzi scheme or scam just like what the social media have told.

People are afraid because bitcoin is not provided with anything and therefore has no value. If bitcoin technology will collapse, bitcoin will become helpless. Bitcoins are used by many criminals. Bitcoin is not regulated, thats why its dangerous. Bitcoin is very unstable to be a currency.  Bitcoin can be hacked.

People aren't afraid of bitcoin, they're afraid of losing money to bitcoin, and they're afraid of other people getting more money than them, thanks to bitcoin. It's that simple.

I am into Bitcoin since 2013 and until today I cannot explain what is Bitcoins for most of my relatives and friends. When I start to talk about what bitcoin is, they just don't believe that we can make cash from a virtual currency and also that you can withdraw fiat currency from bitcoin. Even if I show them the money I made they just don't believe. I think it is a normal reaction because when some people read the news about bitcoin, most of it is of Scamming ponzi schemes and wall street people saying how bad is bitcoin and why it's a bubble. I don't care anymore because I gave the best of me trying to bring people to the cryptocurrency and make some profits with me.

Politicians are afraid of bitcoin because it is decentralised, they cannot manipulate the system to their favour and enslaved other and many citizen can now live good life without asking governments or political office holders for help. The elites are afraid of bitcoin because they don't know how blockchain technology work and many unrecognized individuals get in before them, therefore they will always lebel bitcoin as fraud and scams. Those that has lose good money through pozin schemes see bitcoin as one of those system that cannot last and very soon run away with their investment.

most likely people who do not understand bitcoin assume that bitcoin digital currencies in most countries can not be legalized and many are abused to commit crimes, they are afraid of the high risk they can face if they can use this digital currency.

yes, there are people who are still afraid of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, simply because they fail to understand what is bitcoin. there are even some long time investors, whom keep on saying to me that bitcoin is a scam, whenever I show them the chart, it seems that they cannot believe what hey are seeing, and just wanted the old ways of investing in the stock market. I think what those who fear bitcoin needs is just education on things about investments and what is block chain technology. one thing I also suspect why people are afraid of bitcoin is that they fear the risk of having bitcoins, since it is something new, they need to get use to it, aside from that the high volatility of bitcoin, they might get scared whenever there are FUDs and just withdraw. hopefully with all the things going around, from those countries that already accepted bitcoin, things will change from their perspective.

Yes actully every investment is a risk.
When we invest on something we need to have faith on it.
You cannot be scared after you invest ,actually the problem of salaried people is they just know that if they work only then thir money will grow.
What they miss is they donot understand that.Money can make money itself and some time its huge..:d

Many are still ignorant when it comes to investing in bitcoin, actually, everything about bitcoin, many are still hesitant to join or invest in bitcoin because of lack of knowledge added by the growing numbers of negative writeups about bitcoin, not just bitcoin almost all cryptos are in the same status, i think being digital is what makes it hard to accept by people especially the conventional ones. The stigma of using internet.

People who are lay in the internet/digital world, on average they are very afraid of something valuable on the internet, for example, I have a friend who is blind to the internet, and he has a desire to keep his money outside the bank, then I offer to save money in paypal, but he refused in a raw, bahkam he talked to me that paypal is an element of deception, in my heart laugh, but I know very much to the world of the internet. I think explaining about things on the internet is very difficult, especially if you have to explain bitcoin and investment.

Actually if you don't know whaf your doing you will feel afraid from that so one of the reason why they afraid is they don't know crypto and it's investing or trading to do here so that's very risky so you will think by that if you don't exactly whaat will happen in your money.I think also some people all around the world scam others so that's why they afraid to do investing and even it's not btc still scam is scam.

And that what happened to me.  I was afraid to try doing bitcoin.  And because of that I lose a great opportunity for me to earn an income.  Afraid to try and lack of knowledge, those two are reasons why people dis not start or do bicoin.  But if you are always in your comfort zone, you will not learn.
